INTRODUCTION I feel that terminator games are a lot of fun, but terminator tournaments tend to be anticlimactic. The player with the most kills wins and the outcome is usually determined a few games before the end anyway. But no, not in a tournament I run. The basis of this tournament is that winning games will guarantee you a spot in the next round, but losing doesn't necessarily mean elimination. Racking up more kills than your opponents can also save you. Here's how it will work:
FORMAT There will be 64 participants. I will seed the players by rank (and points if need be) into 8 groups of 8. I will do this by putting the players into 8 pots by score, and then I will randomly put one player from each pot into each group using a random generator. Each group will play 16 games. Point values will be assigned as such:
In the thread I will keep point tallies and number of kills. 4 players from each group will go on to the next round. The first two selected are those two with the most points at the end of the 16 games. Then, two players from each group with the most kills will go on to the next round, regardless of points. Obviously, it is likely for the two players with the most points to have the most kills, so the two slots for kills will go to the two players in the bottom 6 spots of the group with the most kills. This means that 4 players from each group will go on to the next round. The next round will be played in the same way, with Group A winners playing with Group B winners, C with D, and so on. At the end of that round, there will be 16 players remaining. They will be put into two groups, and play 16 games just like before. However, the procedure for moving to the final round is different than the others.
As before, the two players in each group with the most points will move on to the final round, but the process for the other slots have changed. An accumulated count of kills in all rounds will be kept for each player in the tournament, and the four players (excluding those who already have a spot) with the most overall kills in the whole tournament will go on to play in the final round. While unlikely, even a player eliminated in an earlier round could earn a trip to the final table.
The final round is different not only in qualification, but in structure. In this last round, 32 games will be played. The same point structure will remain, but with an addition. Terminations are worth 2 points each. At the end of these games, the player with the most points at the end of this round will be declared winner and will win a shiny medal, along with the respect and awe of all participants (though not as much respect and awe as the participants have for the tournament organizer). Respect---> Awe--->
Standings After Round 1. I only put them up to fourth place. If you want to see the rest, click on the link that's in the section "Round 1 Stuff." Any ties for a certain place were decided by the other score (so if you tied in points, kills decided it, and vice versa).
