Factoids

Postby rdsrds2120 on Mon Feb 28, 2011 9:43 pm

Time for FACTOIDS!!!

I'm going to post some useless bit of information that could win you countless sums of money if a man in a suitcase were to come up and ask you a random question.

I will then give a CATEGORY for the next tidbit that wastes 3 seconds of our lives to be posted in. It's something that's a rare piece of knowledge, one of those things that makes you go "HMM". So, here we go!

1) A penny has 180 ridged edges on the side of it

Next category: Miscellaneous (whatever you want)!

Mod Edit (DK): Finally fixed the spelling of the thread title.

It's not broken.

In developing countries, 70 percent of industrial wastes are dumped untreated into waters where they pollute the usable water supply.

Sixty percent of the 47,744 mile U.S. Interstate highway system was built of concrete, especially in urban areas where FHWA anticipated heavy traffic volumes. Concrete was selected because of its superior durability, safety, higher reflection of light at night, and greater traction.

Watched it all the time during the short, 4 week stint when we had cable TV - (It was in 1997 - We had it for four weeks, and then got rid of it again) After returning to normal free-to-air TV, I was unable to watch the crappy knock-off kid's 'Maze-Adventure-Game-Show' type of programmes - They just never compared.

Zapatista grass-roots communities began to organise their own Autonomous Municipalities in 1996. These locally elected councils were formed to oversee the self-governing of the areas of Chiapas where the people had risen in armed rebellion against the Mexican State on 1st Jan 1994. A total of 32 Autonomous Municipalities were organised, encompassing a support base of several hundred thousand.

The average US beer uses about .02 pounds of hops in every 31 gallons, according to Businessweek, but craft brewers can use as much as 1.25 pounds and has led to a shortage in the hops supply chain.
