[UI] Personal Note Display

Postby PapaGeek on Thu May 31, 2012 10:06 am

Concise description:
  • Create a person note area above the Players List

Specifics/Details:
  • Add another check box to the Post Message area for “personal Note”
  • Display the last personal note in the blank area above the Player List

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This will make it easier to remember what you were up to in this game when you are playing multiple games
  • Yes, you could just check the notes each time, but having the last note right there when you bring up the board would be useful.

Maybe my request wasn’t clear. I’m asking for a note per game that appears at the top of each game board.

When you open each game one of the first things you see is the note to yourself;
  • Watch out for Green, he’s coming up from the south.
  • Best strategy is to try for Picardy next. If Red takes Oise on his turn, go for Ardennes first.

Just some obvious place to carry your thoughts from one round to the next.

Like I said, I do this now with “note to self” in the standard message area, it just would be nice if my last note, or a special personal note could appear at the top of the page also!

Sometimes there is a lot of chat and my last personal note is off the screen!

Hm, I don't think we would add another area of notes, or copy notes to an area above the board, but perhaps there could be a function for game chat that is something like <view only notes> that could be clicked and unclicked.

Hm.

Or a greasemonkey script...that way, nobody would complain. Well, probably fewer people would complain. Maybe.

I like Andy's idea better. Not to say I think we really need that very much either.

But if this does gain traction it should also be for team games (i.e. show only team chat)

I don't see how this is much different functionally than the chat box and note to self options that are already available. This suggestion appears to want a new "Game Notes" box or something in addition to the Game Chat. I doubt CC will want to clutter up the screen with redundant features. Moving this to REJECTED.

There are a couple aspects related to this suggestion that have some merit.

For example, having the option to move the chat box to the top of the screen would be nice, IMO. You can currently use the BOB plug-in for that until the site allows this feature (if ever): viewtopic.php?f=527&t=161049

Having the option to toggle on and off the chatter of opponent(s) would probably also be nice (though I'm not sure how often it would get used). The chatglove plug-in does allow this when the chat is detached (but for some reason not when the chat is attached): viewtopic.php?f=527&t=132761

Both of these plug-ins do much more than that, but those features are directly related to this suggestion.
