OT Forum: Collaborated Game Dev

Postby Maugena on Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:50 am

Would anyone be interested in collaborating to develop a basic two-dimensional game?
This would be open source as we would be posting everything in here or we would make a google code page.
As such, this would for learning purposes only.
A few decisions need to be made, though... such as...

Language to Develop In:
  • Java
  • C++
  • C#

Genre Desired:
  • Hack 'n Slash
  • Action Adventure
  • Puzzle

Notes: Graphical artists or sound producers would be appreciated, too.
I have the smallest amount of experience when it comes to programming, so I could manage a bit of that.
I'm also open to other ideas as long as they are legitimate.

I've made some basic 2D games before.

Most important advice. Use flash(i.e. actionscript). You can't even imagine how many headaches you'll save yourself.
Also, if you know java, you know actionscript (do you know java?)

I do know a bit of Java.
I don't own flash, however.
I'm not really looking to lay down a lot of money for it, either.
Just looked it up again to see where it's at, cost-wise.
Regularly $699, can potentially go with a subscription for $19.99/month for a year or $29.99/month on a month to month basis. Or, if I went back to school, I could get it for $199 as a student.
It would be pretty awesome to have, but I'm not considering purchasing it at the moment. ;/

That's just their fancy IDE thing though, which you don't need.

I used flash develop + a game engine (in my case flash punk) which just makes annoying things easier.
Depending on what you're making this might also be of use.

Btw, game suggestion:

Something that has a lot of unit types/ characters so that you can model each one after a CC poster.
