Is it you, or is it Conquer Club?

Postby AAFitz on Tue Feb 05, 2013 10:32 am

Are you yourself in the forums and chat, or are you more exaggerated?

Do you really talk about these subjects so passionately in real life, and arguing anytime someone says something you don't disagree with?

To some degree, I know the answer is obvious, but I wonder how much the individual posters are the same person in here, as they are 'out there'..

I don't think anyone is as exaggerated in real life as they are in here, with a few possible exceptions. I can more or less relate and get along with anyone, and almost none of these subjects come up in real life. If the subject does come up, sometimes, I may try to get in some other ideas, but will also relate to their view, and usually avoid any real disagreement as much as possible.

Disclaimer: I was once kicked out of my friends house for a discussion on nutrition, but vast quantities of alcohol were consumed, and that particular friend does have a habit of....well....doing that.

I suspect I could greatly enjoy having a beer or whatever with almost every place in this forum, and probably with almost every single one, except a possible few. I imagine most of the subjects would never come up, and if they did, it would be a conversation striving for common ground, and not looking for excuses to debate.

However, are there people in here going out and actually discussing topics in real life about, the existence of God, Gun Control, Taxes, Big Government everyday, or are they just keeping it to the weather and Sports, as suggested in the how to survive in the Guide to Peaceful Living in Modern Society.

(I made the title of that book up. If it exists, it is pure coincidence, though I would expect the advice to be the same.)

I don't talk about bananas in real life as much as I do on Conquer Club. But I do equally talk about Futurama in both.

I think you are a poster that everyone knew the answer to. You certainly contribute your opinion in here, and sometimes it even disagrees with some, but I think its very clear you would pretty much get along with almost any normal person on the outside.

[Parody]Though your opinion on the best Futrurama episode is way off, baseless, and has no bearing on reality. Ill assume you don't understand english. [\Parody]

I think I'm pretty similar, except more civil but that goes without saying.

I enjoy debating things in depth quite a lot (especially over a pint or three), unfortunately I've found few people which also enjoy this type of discussion.
Most people I talk to in RL either couldn't give a shit about the kind of discussions we have here or have a position they have invested a lot in and therefore I'm walking on eggs when debating as to make sure I'm not offending them too much. (most clearly in this category would be certain type of religious folk, but there are socialists/environmentalists/animal activists/etc with similar problems )

So yeah, not that much meaningful debate in RL, but not for lack of trying.

I should also mention that in RL, BBS is a couple CPU's placed in my basement.
His algorithm is not dissimilar to that of Watson, only except of processing all that Jeopardy data he largely focuses on several internet resources such as the database of the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

Mostly the same in real life.

Perhaps I post more pictures of unicorns on CC than I do day-to-day.

The main difference is that here I don't contribute to discussions as much as I do in the real world. Sometimes I'll see a thread here which I know I can offer insight/opinion on, but can't be bothered typing it all out. And I speak quicker than I can type.

Same person here as in real life. I very occasionally (like once or twice a month) will discuss major issues with people in real life.

A bit of both. I like to go online for entertainment. This could be having a conversation that's not possible with my wife and kids. I like to laugh and look at cat pictures also.

I would rather have a conversation with someone in real life but it happens far less often because I'm with my wife most of the time who does not want to talk to anyone she does not know. When I stop to have a conversation with a stranger she's probably waiting in the car.

This is my outlet for the severe end of mockery of stupidity, normally out in the real world I'm more diplomatic about it but the basic message is the same, just different tactics used.

That said I very rarely get chances to discuss a lot of the stuff that comes up on here out in the really real world.

Yeah also you get to interact with people from a few other countries, often at the same time.

Sometimes this forum is kind of strange. I asked a question and I'm reasonably sure it was moved from the Q&A area based on the mod presuming I was not being sincere or something. I don't think anyone is going to answer it. Especially now.

There's not nearly as many opportunities to argue in RL as there are on here so basically I act on here like I do when I'm arguing in real life which is probably about .01% of the time so the answer is "yes and no" since it's just a small slice of me but me nonetheless.
I am however more confrontational on here because justice is more readily available. :D

In real life, I use less syllables per word. Politically, I'm initially moderate with others because it's not effective going Full Anarchy Ahead. I'm less serious, and I ask more questions.

Have met a few others in RL that were exactly what I expected.....hapsmo19 for instance (he's banned from here now....lol)...we have become good friends ;)

Did you take that picture? What kind of camera did you use, and the settings?

On topic...AAF Said " the existence of God, Gun Control, Taxes, Big Government everyday, or are they just keeping it to the weather and Sports,"

I talk about all these things in real life with friends, family and co-workers pretty much everyday. However, when we talk about US politics, the majority of Canadians are in agreement and think you are all nuts.

to be honest, i almost never discuss politics or religion in real life.

firstly, because most people have really dumb, uninformed opinions about them (even compared to you guys) and won't even bother thinking about them

secondly, because my views are relatively uncommon and somewhat "extreme" relative to the norm, and i don't want to make any enemies for no reason lol

thirdly, because i'm a quiet dude who prefers to observe rather than talk

When I do post (once in a blue moon) I tend to be a lot more mild in real life. From reading discussions, this place isn't something to get riled up about. Most people who respond to me are incompetent fools :P lol I tend to think in real life people are willing to have a real discussion. On here people like "power." Or whatever. So anyways I am more mellow on here because honestly I'm not changing anyone's opinion, and I don't enjoy it when people argue instead of debate.

On Conquer Club I apologize for missing turns, because I had a hangover. In real life, I actually drink and have a great evening.
On Conquer Club I win 48% of my games. In real life that must be close to 80% (because I only play games I'm really good at).
On Conquer Club we can't even post the mildest bit of porn. In real life I sleep with my girlfriend.

It's not Conquer Club. It's my fault. What the f*ck am I doing here...
