Mandatory Friend Reporting

Postby DoomYoshi on Thu Mar 14, 2013 8:52 am

Concise description:
  • When you join a game with friends, the game log will update to say "Kiron" and "xiangwang" are friends
  • [optional]: The friends list will be updated automatically when you play a certain number of games together or if you ever log in from the same IP
  • [Optional]: It could even indicate this on the game finder

Specifics/Details:
  • It will make "secret diplomacy" accusations easier to disentangle from just wanting your friends to succeed

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • No more Kiron/xiangwang debacle
  • It will save me having to file 500+ C+A reports for people who play with their friends
  • Because of the game log updater, people will play with their friends less perhaps

They could just not have the other person on their friend list?

Also, be sure not to have the game update if it's a team game: it's unnecessary.

I like the concept, DoomYoshi, but I don't see this as a workable option.

1) If your friends are optional then you can just ensure the person with whom you enter into secret diplomacy with is not on your friends list.

2) If your friends list is automatic then it is meaningless - in a competitive the people you play against consistently may well be your foes.

3) I imagine this will lead to a greater number of false accusations, particularly in 3 player games. If a X already knows Y and Z are friends, he is more likely to interpret their moves as collaborative.

Cheers.

Hence option 1. Else, a rule against not adding.

I understand the intention behind it but think its a terrible idea for the site.

!!!!

Regardless, I feel that - if this is implemented - C+A reports will still be made against those who skirt under the rule.

Points 1 and 2 are great points, and I am unsure how best to implement.

Point 3 should have the opposite effect.
If y and z are friends, you should expect them to collaborate and then not have to file a C+A report when they do.

But if they are collaborating, that's still cheating.
It's psychology- if you're looking for something, you'll see it even if it's not there.

Idk, what about people that just play a lot of those 8 man Speed games (Or any speed game variant)? They may play a lot of those games together, doesn't mean they are friends. I know I played a lot of 8 man Assdoodles with certain players, doesn't mean I liked any of them.

I did not know they where friend and would of been pretty pissed of if I had played them like this. No matter how much we tighten the rules up or add things like this, players will always find a way around it.

DoomYoshi wrote:When you join a game with friends, the game log will update to say "Kiron" and "xiangwang" are friends

So anyone of my friends on my list who I play with, this will come up. Sure as hell, if either of us win a report will be made. This would lead to a lot more work for the CA team.
DoomYoshi wrote:The friends list will be updated automatically when you play a certain number of games together or if you ever log in from the same IP

So if I play a person (x) times, they go onto my list. I can still remove them so this is not even an idea worth pursuing. Also, why would I want a thousand players on my list. Imagine HAs list with all the tournie people he plays a lot.
DoomYoshi wrote: It could even indicate this on the game finder

And then games would not fill or the friend enters last.

AS stated above, this idea would probably help cheaters as all they would do is remove the name from the friends list every few games. If it does not come up in the log then I would not know (like now). But it would lead me to believe I had been beaten fair and square. Why should I not play friends? The whole reason for playing a friend is because they are a friend.

This whole idea seems very reactionary and has no real benefits.
