Send Short Message along with Invites

Postby jmyork82 on Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:22 pm

Concise description:
  • Add the ability to send a short message along with your invite to provide context for the invite

Specifics/Details:
  • Add a text box below the box where you fill out the name of who you want to invite. That way you can add a short message about why you sent the invite (ex. rematch, pantry game, join my team, you're ugly but i still like you) The message would appear somewhere in the game information under the invitation tab.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This will help with streamlining communication on invites. Instead of posting on several walls or sending multiple PM's, you can invite and communicate at the same time. This would also reduce any confusion if you are inviting players that you don't normally play with. You can also communicate special instructions upon invites. For example: "join my team game and invite your choice of clan mates, password is duka4president"

I do like the idea...my sarcastic response though is that this feature should have been available when Paulatpeace was making his or her meteoric rise to the top of the scoreboard. It would have saved him or her so much time.

Where does the message show up when used? Invites page? Creates a pm? Does it go away once invites are accepted or is it like a game label that’s perma attached?

My original thought was on the invites page on the game somewhere. Maybe it can show up in the same space where a tournament name would be? but that could cause problems while inviting to tournament games?

I dont like the idea of creating a PM, that's too much clicking around and "messy". The message would go away, I dont see the need of it sticking around for longer than accepting or declining the invite.

Should the initial message read:

"Hi there [player],

I cordially invite you to a 1v1 on a map that I've played over and over and over several times, to the point where it would take a miracle of dice for you to win. Bear in mind, if you win, you stand to win more points, but let's be honest, you more than likely won't. If you accept this challenge, we will play a total of five times, and I'll probably gain a net worth of 100 or some odd points off of you, possibly demoting you as well.
Hope to see you soon so you can learn a new map!

Sincerely Paulat-I mean-[player]."

I had shorter messages in mind, but yes, that is essentially the idea

I love this idea, but only in the context of tournament/clan games. This should come alongside tournie privileges to mail everyone on game creation. It's entirely possible to sign up to a tournament and be waiting for a while before it starts. By then, the player might even have forgotten what it was about, especially if they sign up to a lot of those things.

For normal invitations, such as inviting a couple of friends to a game, you're going to message them anyway. It's not that big of a deal to communicate with them. You can already send one mail to all at the same time.

I don't like the idea of someone mailing me at random to join their point farming games, so I don't think it should be available to everyone.

Clan games have the war titles and are linked to the clan war discussion page. I’m not sure there’s a lot of potential use in that catagory

Why implement something in one aspect of the site but not the other? If it seems like a helpful tool tournament and clan games, dont you think it would be helpful for the average user on CC?

Of course you could invite somebody and then go PM them or write on their wall, but the point is to streamline that communication in one step as opposed to taking a second or third. I personally am throwing out hundreds of invites each month to players for several different reasons, mostly to fill the pantry. I often get PM's back asking me why I invited them to games that I am not joining, which turns into 2-3 PM's or wall posts. When it could be easier just to say "I invited you to this game because you are waiting to play another just like it, this one will fill faster".

The intention is not to have a PM automatically sent with the invite, but to have the message appear with the invitation to the game. Much like where the title of a tournament or clan game would be.

Okay I understand where you're coming from.
I was thinking about the potential for the Paul types to use it streamline their point harvesting.

If it's going to happen anyway, why promote it rather than frowning upon it?

This seems like an idea that has mostly positive feedback. Can anybody think of some potential issues or conflicts that would arise if this were implemented?

There is the possibility that inappropriate messages could be sent with the invite. There would have to be a proper way to report that....

You can already send out invites for point farming.

This would just create a way to add a note explaining what's going on such as, "Hi I thought you'd like to lose to an advanced player." Without having to wall them or send a PM.

Conversely I could write. "Hey dishy, come play this game with my crappy settings."
