It's from about half a lifetime ago, when I appeared as one of the gascony Cadets in "Cyrano de Bergerac".

No, it was just a role, though I could talk for some while about the advantages/disadvantages of a Main Gauche like that. I did study fencing for a while, but I'm too gentle, the basic aggression needed was just not there.

All the guys in the play were forbidden to shave or have haircuts for about three months, so genuine.
Oddly enough, until about a week ago I looked pretty much the same (slightly thinner hair, much more wrinkly face) - very long hair and full-on face fuzz. But the 'tache was making my allergies worse, so I just have a hairy chin now - with the long curly hair, Mrs thecurl says I look like Mr Tumnus from Narnia.
