Le Griffon’s maiden voyage started from Niagara on August 7, 1679. La Salle and 16 men sailed across Lake Erie to present day Detroit, where it picked up Henri DeTonti, one of La Salle’s lieutenants, and five other men. From there, Le Griffon sailed to St Ignace, near the Straits of Mackinac, finally stopping at safe anchorage on the shores of Green Bay. On September 18, 1679, La Salle dispatched a crew of six to sail Le Griffon back to Niagara to pick up men and supplies needed for the construction of forts and a second vessel.

Le Griffon sailed from what is known today as Washington Harbor on Washington Island. Father Hennepin, a Franciscan Recollect friar who had accompanied La Salle on the expedition, records that the ship fired a single cannon shot as it set sail. La Salle’s agent and attorney, Claude Bernou, in summarizing La Salle’s letters, wrote, “They set sail on the 18th of September with a light and very favorable wind from the West. It has not been possible to ascertain since what course they steered.” Le Griffon was never seen again.

FAQs:

Who can play a Challenge?
Challenges are open to everyone!

How do I join?
No signups required. Join and/or create games that meet the given parameters for this month as found in the OP. Only public games count towards the challenge unless otherwise explicitly stated in the challenge OP. There is also a "join games" link in the OP to provide an easy list of qualifying games.

What are the prizes?
All players who meet or exceed the minimum number of required points for the month will earn a Challenge Achievement Medal. The point requirements change every month as we aim to provide a vast assortment of challenges which includes a varying level of difficulty.

Site Event Medals are awarded to the top three finishers on the challenge scoreboard.

2nd: Image
3rd: Image

In addition to the medals, the first place finisher receives: 1 Green Conquer Star
Image
And the 2nd-5th place finishers receive: 1 Blue Conquer Star
Image

When do I get my prize?
My goal is always to award prizes during the week following the completion of the event.

How do we deal with deadbeating?
Please report deadbeats in your games by sending me a PM. I will periodically do a random check however I cannot monitor every game. We will evaluate the distribution of prizes to a violating player on a case by case basis.

Tiebreakers?
Ties are awarded to the player who reached the point threshold first.

A player has me foed and it is preventing me from joining a lot of challenge games. What can I do?
PM the player in question. Be courteous and non-accusatory, ask why you are foed. Do your best to resolve any issues with the other user in this manner. However, if they decided not to remove you from their foe list then you will need to join games without that player or start your own.

What if I want to run a parallel tournament to the challenge?
Okay, awesome! Individual tournaments can be added to the challenges so that those games drop tokens. Send me a PM and we will get it added for the month.

Rulings:
1. Deadbeats will have entry points stripped.
2. Wins by round limit will drop tokens.
3. Inventory relating to the challenge will vanish at the end of the year.
4. Bot games do not drop tokens.
5. Any unforeseen abuse is still abuse. Don't take advantage of the system.

If you have any further questions or issues not covered here please either post in the active challenge thread or PM groovysmurf.

I love that you put this in here 3 minutes after the game ended.

The system compiles every hour, but only does the full compilation every 12 hours (at least last I heard), so please just give it a little time. It used to be the 12 hour one was at between 11:00-11:15 and 23:00-23:15 CCT. So, you won't have to wait too long. :)

Eh, okay, I see you are right. The other game finished hours ago. I'll PM bigWham. Sorry 'bout that.

I took a quick glance and you are definitely right that this should be counted. I think it's perhaps because it started before the fix was applied. I will PM the game numbers that are not issuing tokens to BW tomorrow.

LOL. You're welcome! :-)

Okay, so I went through all Silver and Gold games and found two more affected. I've sent them off to BW so the tokens should be issued soon.

Silver tokens not received for Game 19267466.
Gold tokens not received for Game 19266896.

Sorry for the issues! Also, a reminder: Bot games do NOT count!

EDIT: Game 19266896 was created as a random, which is why it didn't count. BW has issued the tokens for Game 19267466.

The possibility has always been there, but not many have used it.

For a while, jonofperu was running Companion tournaments to the Challenges, like this one:
https://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=206885

However, once Jon left, nobody really took up the mantle of doing them regularly.

I did one in 2016, and I think someone else did one, but basically Jon was the only one who did a lot of them.

The door remains open if you want to do one. Just a few caveats:
  • The time restrictions stay in effect. All games must begin within one month and finish within two months. Therefore:
    1. It pretty much mandates a single-round tournament. You might be able to squeeze in 2 rounds if it's a really fast format, but it will be close.
    2. You need to be really quick with promoting them, filling them, and getting them running right off the hop.
    and
  • Stay in touch with groovy every step of the way. The tournaments have to be manually added to the database and there's turnaround time, so keep her well informed.

It would be nice to see these tourneys return! I'm all in favour if you decide to do this. :D

Maybe I'm being dumb but it doesn't say whether you have to win or simply play to get a token. In the past I remember there being a distinction. I just want clarification on that so I know whether to start 20 1v1 games or 21.

Tokens are for wins only. Apologies that the wording got left out.
