TRIPLE POST!!!

I really can't decide. I would say the 1990s since that's my "generation" so to speak, except that the 1970s are fucking awesome. I can't decide.

What is the definition of a 'hair band'. In my day(I was born in 1970) any rock band worth its salt had copious amounts of hair.

I'm torn between the 70's and 80's. The 70's had some awesome bands and tunes, but I'm am a child of the NWOBHM. I shall think on it.

Oh....and stick Hawkwind and Whitesnake in the 70's. Or possilbly the 80's for Whitesnake

If I were to vote as a casual listener, I'd probably pick the aughts, but, again, that's my "generation," and I think the history of rock has progressed well (except for the eighties; ftr I think the whole spectrum from pop rock to heavy metal was bathing in ridiculous, especially popular rock). If I were to get up on my music throne, I would vote for the fifties (for "starting it all," or as much as one can in a linear progression) or the seventies (for really defining the genre).

I don't see why bands can't be on multiple lists. U2 and Radiohead (especially Radiohead) for instance could easily be both in the 90's and 2000's

I don't know... I wanted a situation where you had to pick a decade. So, if you're a huge AC/DC fan... you gotta vote 1980s even if you hate the rest of the bands instead of voting 1970s where the bands are largely awesome. That AC/DC thing got thrown out the window by Mr. AC/DC.

Aside from Death Cab for Cutie, who really didn't come of age until the Aughts despite starting in the 90s, those are all really 90s bands. Maybe you can make the argument that they span decades, but if Radiohead is more of a 90s band, then Wilco, Cake, and Blonde Redhead certainly belong in the 90s.

I think when the band began is where they belong, honestly. I still disagree with the decision to put Iggy and the Stooges in the 70s, when their most influential (and successful) album was released in 69. While that album may have helped usher in the 70s, it was borne of the 60s.

Of course, all this really does is just underscore the idiocy of a somewhat arbitrary 10 base number system, but whatever. This is an important argument worth having!

I think it's best to put a band in the decade that their best work was in. Wilco's best album was released in 2001. DCFC's best album was released in 2003. EELS best album was released in 2005 (yes, I just called Blinking Lights and Other Revelations better than Electro-Shock Blues). I suppose Cake IS more a 90s band -- Fashion Nugget was 96 or 97.

The others -- I'm not entirely sure where their albums are between the late 90s and early 2000s since I'm not personally a gigantic fan of them.

I didn't vote for the seventies, but I feel that it should probably take this poll.

It's a tough choice between 60s and 70s. Each decade had its share of fluff (bubble gum, disco, bad techno, boy bands....) the 60s are awesome from a standpoint that they really set the platform for taking rock to the next level but the 70s I think has the best music.
