They'd still take less passengers than their bendy cousins, and thus make rush-hour even more annoying and time consuming than it presently is. Unless of course Boris is going to hike up our taxes to pay for even more bus-drives and even more replacement vehicles to put on a greater number of vehicles.
Either way, we lose.
Bendy-Buses are what Jesus would want, and as such Boris is like a mini version of Hitler. Think about it, it makes perfect logical sense.
That really sucks! Perhaps you guys should ride bicycles in your underwear with derby hats and an umbrella in protest!

Because I'm so poor that I have stooped to drinking half-empty pints that people leave on the bar while they pop to the gents. Why only the other night I swiped a pint of what I believe to have been Kronenbourg from behind its owners back while he answered his mobile-phone; he made the schoolboy error of standing up and turning away from the crowd to block the noise, and then it was too late.
Basically, I make Oliver Twist look like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire... that's why I don't have a car.
Though I do have some hubcaps that I can let you have for a modest fee, should you be interested?

Private Tour-Bus companies currently use double-decker buses in precisely the parts of the city that you describe. We're talking about the actual mass-transit publicly run system of buses, which needs to be kept as modern and efficient as possible to cope with the huge numbers of people traveling to and from work in the capital each day. Suggesting bringing back Double-Deckers for that is a lot like suggesting bringing back the horse-and-trap or the Rickshaw, very quaint but utterly impractical.
Actually, rickshaws are not a dreadful idea. they worked rather well in Croydon last time I was there.

Oh, we do have some rickshaws; I think DM was saying that they don't form the backbone of much of our public transport serving over 7.5 million people.

Who knows whether he will be any good. But I'm surprised at the naivete of some of these posts. Whether you agree with his policies or not (lets face, they are pure and simple Conservatism dressed up in a trendy way) Boris is a very intelligent man.
Sorry Jim and Mustard, but if you think he i s a clown/ buffoon, you are just buying into his public persona-i suspect to end up as the editor of a high profile magazine, write some decent history books, and even going to Oxford in the first place, requires considerable brain power.
Having said all that, his policies are shit. But buffoon-no way.
Good for democracy i think-three terms is too many for any politician, ask the Yanks. Should hopefully provide the dialetical stimulus to create some new Labour policies. I loved Ken, but the guy was getting stale.
Plus, Boris has a hair cut a bit like mine, and thats what counts

Oh no, I don't think he's stupid at all... it's all a carefully cultivated stage-act designed to appeal to otherwise apathetic voters and those who don't really understand what politics is all about.
That's yet another reason for me to hate him, dragging politics down to a razzle-dazzle vote for the man not the policies stage-show. Disgusting stuff, he should be dragged out of that giant glass-testicle and pitched off Tower Bridge.

All my life, I've voted Labour, but not this time.
I voted for Boris. Yes he's a fucking imbecile, but Ken was pissing me off with his transport policies.
A bendy bus can
a. easily be gotten onto without paying
b. you can't get off it until the driver opens the doors.
The routemaster has been fucked over by the H&S and the disability morons insisting that an open back is dangerous and someone in a wheelchair must have access to a bus. Most people in a wheelchair have some poor schmuck pushing them anyway, so ask the pusher to push them to their destination.
I (and the majority of able bodied passengers) want to get on and off a bus when ever we like.
As far as the dangers of an open backed bus, tell that to the geezer who was stabbed to death after asking some nutter to stop throwing chips at his girlfriend.
Buses without conductors have become a great place to judge how far you can take antisocial behavior, without being brought to task. If LRT want's me to get on a bus (which requires waiting in the fresh air for one to turn up when it likes) then only to be charged more than driving somewhere, then they can think again.
Ken used to bang on about the price of a bus ticket actually going down if you had an oystercard. I doubt that many tourists get an oystercard, and therefore go home and tell their friends how expensive travel is in London. Not a good advert for the capital.
London has become impossible to buy a house in unless you have a 60K salary
London has 1 black teenager killed each week by other black teenager
London has an Olympics that will do nothing for regenerating the East End. I used to work in Carpenters Road, and no one with a business there was ever going to spend too much on the premises because for 15 years the general area was always earmarked for some possible government compulsory purchase due to Channel Tunnel rail Link / Olympics / other sporting venue for something pointless.
London has a congestion charge that isn't about congestion, it's about making money. When it just about broke even - the firm involved in operating it wanted to pull out, so Ken increased the size and the cost of entering it.
Housing, crime and transport are really important to someone living in London. When nothing improved in 8 years under Ken - then what more did he or Labour expect?
Boris may be a pillock, but another 4 years of the same guy wasn't the answer to our problems.

I'm just not seeing the link between how having an open backed bus would have stopped this guy being stabbed.

b. you can't get off it until the driver opens the doors. Clearly you've never used the emergency handles, even a child could pop them open should they desire. Sorry, but that option is bogus.
The routemaster has been fucked over by the H&S and the disability morons insisting that an open back is dangerous and someone in a wheelchair must have access to a bus. Most people in a wheelchair have some poor schmuck pushing them anyway, so ask the pusher to push them to their destination.
That seems fairly uncharitable, so far as I'm aware there are many self-propelled wheelchair users. Also, you are aware that the new model Routemasters have been proposed with an electric door at the traditionally-open rear, right?
I (and the majority of able bodied passengers) want to get on and off a bus when ever we like.
Well that's all very well, but I don't really fancy forking out money to ever dumb fecker who gets off of a bus into oncoming traffic, or who hops out while it's still moving.
In an age of compensation culture, a tiny bit of restriction on where and when you can hop on and off a bus seems a small price to pay for the millions that will be squandered on legal cases in their absence.
Furthermore, surely a roaming conductor seeking out antisocial behaviour can't mind the back of the bus all the time (i.e. while buses are stuck in traffic) and as such this will make RMs even easier to get onto without payment than the bendy alternative?
As far as the dangers of an open backed bus, tell that to the geezer who was stabbed to death after asking some nutter to stop throwing chips at his girlfriend.
Sorry, but that doesn't actually prove anything... please elaborate on how somebody being stabbed on a bus magically makes double-decker ones the only answer.
If LRT want's me to get on a bus (which requires waiting in the fresh air for one to turn up when it likes) then only to be charged more than driving somewhere, then they can think again.
Great, then let's double the staff on each bus, cut every vehicles maximum capacity by a third, and invest in a whole new fleet of buses to replace perfectly servicable current ones. Prices will plummet! It's a stroke of genius!
Or not...
Ken used to bang on about the price of a bus ticket actually going down if you had an oystercard. I doubt that many tourists get an oystercard, and therefore go home and tell their friends how expensive travel is in London. Not a good advert for the capital.
Non-tax-paying visitors to the capital are paying money to use public transport, and not being given savings that tax-paying residents get... and you're complaining?
I suspect that the price of EVERYTHING ELSE will leave tourists complaining about London's expensive nature, not just bus tickets. Dropping prices for non-taxpayers on public transport would just be a teardrop in an ocean.
London has become impossible to buy a house in unless you have a 60K salary
So let's elect a mayor who has pledged to scrap compulsory building of affordable housing... good plan
London has 1 black teenager killed each week by other black teenager
So let's elect a mayor who has no practical experience of a political role concerned with policing, and who has no understanding of the lives of the working class... great idea
So let's sack the mayor who initiated the Gateway Redevelopment Project, aiming to provide urban regeneration to precisely the area you describe... brilliant stuff
London has a congestion charge that isn't about congestion, it's about making money.
Please provide proof or evidence rather than random sweeping assertions. Kkthxbi.
