Not too be insulting or anything, but everytime one of you calls Obama a socialist, I lol. I'm still a little amazed in the difference in perpective, even though we share a border, so much is seen so differently. It's like you never got out of the McCarthy era.
Really? Higher taxes for the purpose of "spreading the wealth" and centralized health care is socialism. It is not the Federal Governments responsibility to do these things. All the power (thanks to bush, in a large way) is floating to the top where the tug-o-war is in full effect for power supreme. To determine whether or not Obama will be a good President has yet to be seen, though, I believe that Biden will be President in short order. Nonetheless, BO's political stance is based on socialist positions that will take America the rest of the way from a world super power to just an average nation by diminishing it from within, where bush has practically destroyed it from without. Our 2 party system is malignant.

yeah, McCain was gracious in defeat, which definitely says something for him as a person, if not a politician.

Say guys, such comments have been reported to secret service -- cool it or get interviewed. There is to "funny" part to assassination or threats of such.

I make assassination jokes* with impunity.

admittedly usually of the kind "do you reckon I could feasibly confuse Palin with a moose?"

Caution -- Obama is president elect now and the secret service will take seriously any and I mean any, discussion of his assassination, as they should. It is not something to joke about, or mouth-off about. Forewarned, and 'nough said

Yeah, for real. Just like making bomb jokes in an airport is guaranteed fail, so are assassination jokes.

Plus, they aren't even funny.

Pffft. I called it during the DNC of 2004.

And no, I can't prove that.

Well, you know there are a lot of people that say that federally subsidized healthcare is needed, socialistic or not. And since about 62% of all citizens believe this and given that our government is by the people and for the people, it apparently is the place of the government to provide healthcare.

Besides, one of the main functions of government is to provide for the general welfare of its people, and people have been saying that the federal government needed to take some form of control over healthcare since the Constitution. It's hardly new or radical.

Meanwhile...nIce day at the DOW...looking at it tanking at -486 at 4:16pm EST. Lots of happy people selling now that we have a new direction soon. Shouldn't confidence be restored with a new Dem. coming to office? OH wait...it's just a new President...we have already had a Dem. Senate and Congress for 2 years.

I shudder at the thought of his first day. Glad I went liquid a year plus ago.

I would have been shocked if the DOW hadn't dropped personally. We've been in free fall for a while now, all we can hope for is that we reach the capitulation point as quickly as possible. At the moment political events are secondary to the rotten economy we've built ourselves.

I heard that in his second / third day in his new job, obama will be briefed by high ranking security members.

Do you think that he will discover anything really new?

You mean like the way Bush was briefed with a memo entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Within USA"?

Probably, but I expect Mr. Obama's response to significantly more measured and considered, as opposed to reactionary cowboy posturing.

Yes, I agree. The difference will be in the understanding of the information. Bush lack any real ability to see to the essence and formulate a strategy. That ability is one of Obama's strengths.

It kinda is racist though, to say that a mixed individual is an abomination because of his race.
Well, no, although the original context is sprinkled somewhere in the vagaries of this thread, I believe the OP was trying to say something to the effect that Obama was disgracing mixed individuals by "pretending" to be black, even though race as a social construct should logically be up to the individual. If I want to be Asian, and my new Asian posse is ok with that, I'm not quite sure why I'm not Asian. Extreme example.

And thanks, Iz.

First, lesbians are not assrammers.

Second, they still get all the legal rights of married people, they just don't have a marriage certificate.
