thegreekdog wrote:So, in the interest of relieving boredom, I'd like to create an awards... um... thread... regarding all things fora.
Anyway, I'd like to take some ideas on categories. Here are my initial thoughts:
- Most read poster (you see this person has posted and you want to read it) - gottonkaed comes to mind
Like got Tonkaed, but I would put you "greekdog" here, mostly because you post a lot more. Nobunga is up there, but also just below you.
- Poster most likely to claim he/she was abducted by aliens
GabonX
for general "conspiracy" type stuff, it would be a toss up between Jay and Gabon, but I think jay might top off.
- Most likely to go off topic - I love her, but Player has this one locked up
lol
- Troll of the Year
Dancing Mustard, with the lion/BEK/captaincrazy, etc tied.
- Best linker
Neoteny, I think. However, snorri maybe also.
- Funniest (not necessarily the best) moderator

It'll be an interesting list of awards.

Can't wait to see the final list.

Be patient Andy. Don't go pulling my tail (or leg) or whatever else you tend to do to poor dogs.
The final list will be unveiled Friday.

I can't think of an award I'd win, except perhaps "poster with the biggest dic...tion."

But I'm all for calling them
Greekies. It fits somehow.
But are we just nominating people, or should we do threads too?
I can think of:
"biggest flamefest (locked)"
"biggest flamefest (unlocked)"
"funniest thread"
"most frequent topic subject"
"biggest thread of the year (most posts from this year)"

he's had quite a few this year. some lasted a good few weeks(probably when he wasn't on the piss whilst posting).

Longest "winded" or uses has the highest percentage of quotes to writing in posts (perhaps Gabon??).

Shouldn't we wait a year for this? That way we can nominate or save as stuff happens? As opposed to trying to remember stuff.

That might be a good idea. Also, it helps people get ready to try to win awards.

It couldn't hurt to give it a try this year though...
It'll provide an opportunity to make mistakes that can be corrected the following year, whether it's removing categories or adding them. Or figuring out how to nominate or judge or whatever.
Also, would threads that run for multiple years count? What about the "longest thread thread"? Nothing can compete with that if there's a category for "longest thread", unless there's a cut-off date.
But then, what if there's a category for Best Thread About Glenn Beck? But it just happened to have been started on
Sept. 26 2009, and would thus be ineligible for Best of 2010 awards? Would that encourage people to start new threads that just copy over what's already been put up?
These are the kinds of things that get hammered out by just doing it. I say we just do it and brace ourselves for the very distinct possibility that it won't be ideal, people will feel left out, and there will probably be a good amount of complaining about how arbitrary "awards" are (they are).
But we'll never get it right if we don't try.

Do we have one for "Most constant thread poster with least amount of input?"
If not, I nominate PhatScotty

Nah man, I got nothing on gabon with his huge quotes of newsstories and his commentary which amounts to "Interesting....I know nothing about this but I like making threads"
