it's not ronaldo's fault for portugal's results.
it's almost as if nobody in his team wants to win. they play like crap and have no tactical perspective.
don't know if it's the coach's fault or the players are simply idiots.

tactically speaking they've been a mess in this game. nothing but long balls for ronaldo/nani or failed crosses in the box.
but their biggest problem in this tournament has been the mental aspect. they didn't have a shred of fighting spirit. nothing. ronaldo seemed to be the only one that actually wanted and hoped better results. all the others acted like their target was to get 3 losses.

Forgot I could do that. Not the same as watching it, but I'll take it.
Thank you.

USA vs Germany
Looks like Dempsey #8 has a twin, German player Oezil #8.

Pleased to see Mueller out there with a healthy right eye, that injury looked brutal.

Go USA!

Well a 1-1-1 outcome for USA Group stage seems pretty appropriate. Look forward to their next game.

Full scenarios for Group H ahead of kickoff:

BEL guaranteed to advance.
BEL wins Group H UNLESS they lose AND ALG win - teams would be level on 6 points apiece, but ALG would have the edge in goal difference.
(in such a scenario, BEL would advance 2nd in Group H and play GER in the Round of 16 - USA would play ALG)

ALG wins Group H with win AND BEL loss - as described above.
ALG eliminated with loss
Draw between ALG and RUS will send ALG to Round of 16 UNLESS KOR wins by 3+ goals AND KOR outscores ALG by 3+ goals

RUS advances with win UNLESS KOR defeats BEL by a larger margin then RUS defeats ALG (ex. KOR 2-0 BEL, RUS 1-0 ALG)

KOR advances with win and RUS win IF KOR wins by larger margin of victory
KOR advances with win and RUS draw IF KOR wins by 3+ goals and outscores ALG by 3+ goals.

All told:
9 possible combinations of results, 2 of which could each have 2 possible outcomes - 11 scenarios total.
BEL wins Group in 10 of 11, advances second in 11th
ALG wins Group in 1 of 11, advances second in 5 of remaining 10
RUS advances second in 3 of 11
KOR advances second in 2 of 11

In Round of 16:
USA will play ALG or BEL
GER could theoretically play any Group H team

Should be fun.

Suarez is done for awhile, he should wear one of these in the future.

Algiers advance was die to spectators laser beam not due to Algiers quality playing...

Noe enough... 1 year and over that is proper punishment, 4 months is nothing, since he will anyway spend 2 resting. And Uruguay team should be punished also.

Now that the first round is over, and half the teams are eliminated, let's take a look at how the various regions have performed so far.

South America has 5 of 6 teams advancing, with at least 2 guaranteed to make the quarters, and 1 guaranteed to make the semis.
North & Central America have 3 of 4 teams advancing.
Europe has 6 of 13 teams advancing.
Africa has 2 of 5 advancing.
All 4 Asian teams have been eliminated.

Looks to me like the Americas should get more spots in the future, considering only 2 of the 10 qualifying teams have been eliminated at the group stage. Suck it, Europe!

Russian goalie would have probably fluffed it anyway did you see the howler from the other game? They weren't very impressive all in all and glad to see Algeria go through, you could really tell it meant something at the end of the game.

Algerian climate is much more similar to the Brazilian then Russian... Tho the same applies for all other European nations. That is the reason why the number of advancing European nations is way bellow the average, and they dont perform as expected... Next cup in Russia Non-European countries will not have this advantage ;)

Okay so, the warmup is over. Now they're playing for keeps.

Where will the elimination upsets come from? Personally I think the USA could make it past the Belgians, and could maybe see Chile upsetting the hosts. Other than those (and Costa Rica, if you consider them underdogs against Greece), I think it's pretty obvious who will move on to the quarter-finals.

I agree, seems like a first time solution and not the sort of punishment a three time offender could expect to receive. Is FIFA and the football world afraid to punish star athletes for inexcusable conduct during games?

Through from the groupstage:
Europe 6
South America 5
North America 3
Africa 2

My guess is that 4 European, 3 South American and 1 North American team advances to the quarter finals.
Brazil
Colombia
France
Germany
Netherlands
Costa Rica
Argentina
Belgium

any team winning that isn't brasil is an unexpected team. otherwise, if you expect a team like costa rica or USA to win, it's probably because you drank way too much tea.

They dont need to punish him... they need to sent an example. 1 year minimum(literally destroy his carrier). Next one that will bite will get a warning(Do this next time and end up like Suarez). That's lifetime solution to dogs like Suarez.

Outside of Brazil there's maybe 3 teams that people 'expect' to win, Brazil, Argentina and Germany... anything other than that would be a surprise team.

Shit that my two favorite teams have to play Brazil to reach the semis... or each other if Chile shock Brazil, which I seriously doubt, they never beat Brazil. Even at home they suck vs Brazil.

In a letter on his website
Chiellini: "Luis Suárez's sanction is excessive"

Juventus and Italy player Giorgio Chiellini has published a letter on his personal website regretting FIFA's sanction on Luis Suárez, assuring that he feels the punishment handed out is "excessive", and that his thoughts are with Luis and his family in this "very difficult period". After the biting incident with the Uruguayan forward, the Italian defender has wished to give some words of support to Suárez, understanding that a ban can be "really alienating for a player".

Apart from the FIFA ban and fine, Suárez has also lost his principal sponsor and is waiting to see what his club's reaction will be. Liverpool have asked for legal advice to study the case in detail, right in the middle of negotiations for the player's sale to Barcelona.

Chiellini's words: "Now inside me there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suárez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done. There only remain the anger and the disappointment about the match. At the moment my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.

I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive. I sincerely hope that he will be allowed, at least, to stay close to his team mates during the games because such a ban is really alienating for a player".

the problem here, is that the biting is something he apparently cannot control. like a 12 year old still peeing in bed. he needs to wear a hanibal lecter mask. you can give him a stupid 1 year ban, it will not stop him from biting again.
