I know, rock is not the only kind of music... but... which, in your opinion, has been the best decade for rock? Note, there are obviously bands and musicians I've left out. There are obviously bands and musicians who span decades. If you would like me to add a band/musician or move a band/musician, I can do that.

i take exception to this list. it's like you purposely chose the shittiest things you could think of. all it's missing is nickelback.

also REM did their best stuff in the 80s imo

To note, AC/DC began in the 1970s, not the 80s. But like AC/DC, the rock bands that many claim to be the best, would not exist if not for people such as Little Richard, Bill Hailey and the Comets, Johnny Cash, and other such greats of the original Rock n Roll.

After them though, AC/DC and other hard rock bands of the 70s and 80s.

For me, the 70s, closely followed by the 60s. But I do enjoy every one of the 50s folks you listed, as well.

This will, obviously, reflect the dominant decade for each generation, since pop culture is ultimately about when we as individuals came of age.

Also, since people are already complaining, you should add New Order to the 80s and Joy Division to the 70s. Iggy and the Stooges for either 60s or 70s. Those three were really influential.

A few big Rock bands you missed out:
> Led Zeppelin - 1970's
> System of a down - 1990's
> Muse - 2000's

If Dashboard Confessional have managed to get a place, what about Brand New, Thrice, Coheed and Cambria, Rise Against, Billy Talent, Avenged Sevenfold, Alexisonfire etc. As far as I was aware, all these bands have just as large followings. This isn't a criticism, it's just that there are a lot of modern Rock bands that are popular. Rock has so many sub-genres now as well e.g. Post-Hardcore, Indie, Alternative, Hardcore, Metalcore, Metal, Punk etc. You don't have to include these bands although Brand New, for me, are massive. Just giving my thoughts I don't listen to much older Rock, you can get a good idea of the music I like from the list I gave. Mostly Modern

Anyway, yeah without Chuck Berry's era there'd be no Slipknot... Maybe not such a bad thing then...
I'd go for the 60's, mainly as The Rolling Stones pretty much created the guitar riff as we know it. Though I came of age in the 90's so possibly I'm being some kind of generation traitor there

I was born in 1966, but my musical preference of those listed ranges from the 50s to the 70s...so I don't think he's that different.

In other words, I agree that there are some issues with timing (I was thinking NIN was more 90s), and you probably left out some pretty influential bands. That's to be expected in this format, and I forgive you. But you need to put Sabbath on your list.

70s. Best songs came out from that era.


And just because someone from the 50s existed, doesn't mean someone in the 90s wouldn't have. So I tend to stay away from making assumptions like that.

I moved REM (you're probably right). If you have better bands to put in the aughts (and not obscure bands... can't do obscure, I'd be here all day), please let me know.

I tried to put bands where they were at their peak. I'd say AC/DC was it its peak in the 1980s, but you'd know WAY better than me considering your affinity for the band. If you want, I'll move them.

I added Brand New, C&C, and Avenged Sevenfold.

I thought about not included them except they sort of play rock music. If I include Bob Dylan, I have to include DiFranco.
