Trying to sell shit on Craigslist

A fucking pain in the ass.
It's an exercise in neverending flakery and low-level idiocy dealing with these low-balling cocksuckers.
I've been trying to sell a guitar on there for nearly 2 months. I must've talked to 20 different people, all trying to either rip me off or jerk me around.
I think I finally know how this fellow feels:

One of his problems might be trying to substitute cinder blocks for shit. If he had posted pictures of actual shit he might have gotten a better response. Truth in advertising goes a long way.

I bet he received twice as many emails per day after that.

He sounds like a very contented and fulfilled young man. His politely confident manner and strong customer-service ethic is an example to free men everywhere.

Try ebay. You definitely still have to be careful, but if you stick to Paypal, apparently it goes fairly well.

Yeah, I hear ya. I've sold stuff before but it appears my local craigslist has hit the douchebag critical mass. I think I'll give it another week or so then try ebay. I've never sold anything on ebay before though. Is the shipping a hassle? Especially if it's a proper guitar?

Hmm, I ironically just started trying to use it to sell/buy some stuff myself.
But seriously, if youre trying to sell stuff on craigslist, it goes without saying that you just dont want it anymore. Also, you should expect people to try to rip you off, because, thats what people do. If you want to sell your guitar tomorrow, all you have to do is lower your price. It will be gone. If you want to sell it for top dollar, than obviously, youll have to wait for someone who is willing to pay.
Its pure and simple capitalism at its finest. If you want to open a guitar store, hire a sales staff, and offer a guarantee, Im sure youll get top dollar for your guitar, and probably wont even have to haggle. However, if you want to post a free ad for it....well, you get what you pay for.

If I was looking to purchase cinder blocks I most definitely would go through that man. What a salesman!

First off your attitude is shit and that is part of the cost of dealing with you. If somebody has an issue or question they already know they don't want to fucking deal with you.
Second off, anything that sells for over 50 percent of the original price (even if new) is not why people go to CL. If you put them at 50 or 75 cents each and cleaned up your attitude you might have sold them. It's a poor business man that blames the customer.

Expected ViperOverLord response:
"I was just kidding! I KNEW that it wasn't him [after carefully analyzing the situation for about 30 minutes]. You're a fucking f*ck f*ck with a f*ck f*ck and a f*ck."

Doesn't he also usually include some gumph about how he's a 'real American' and about how the Tea Party is an organisation purer and more immaculate than the twelve apostles?

That's some real Alanis irony there. Regardless, I would have to disagree with some of your statements. It's not that I just "don't want it anymore". I just don't use it at all and would like to see it go to someone who does. I know I could lower the price of my guitar to $1 and it would sell today but why would I do that? There comes a point where it's just not worth selling. And that point for me is about $800 for a 2008 American Standard Tele.
In Toronto we have a very active musical instruments page (I've bought and sold many items at reasonable prices off of it) and it was never as bad as it is now. So it's not as if it has never worked, it's just broken at the moment.

Well Darvlay.....I have sold LOTS of stuff on craigslist and thousands of items on ebay; I find craigslist best for typically larger ticket / size items that dont fly on ebay. You expect the trash to roll in (Can you tell me what bus to take to get to your House? FOOK NO!!.....so many hosers). BUT, if you have a fair price and are honest (like I believe the cinder block dude was...lol), your gee-tar should go. Just filter the douchebags out on the phone as best you can.
I think ebay would be the way to go here however.....if you would like, I would be happy to help you - pm me and we can discuss it....good luck!
Oh...I have also found it helpful to have a weapon or two laying about when the prospective buyer comes ambling into my home....not to mention my doberman.....just in case

Where is he getting "half price" from? The blocks usually cost $1.75 and he's selling them for $1.00. I'm not a math expert, but that's not one-half. Does it cost $0.25 to move each block?
Another thing - he says "we're all busy," yet he has time to type out that email. Not only does he type out the email, but he inserts a purely superfluous word throughout.
Finally, does anyone really want to meet this guy? He has anger issues.

Perhaps other dudes with anger issues will feel empathy and kinship with him, resulting in them purchasing his
flagrantly overpriced blocks

You sound like a remarkably tough and rugged individual, whom we would be wise to avoid engaging in a physical confrontation with.

Something like cinder blocks are not cost-effective to ship. Since its only local people, then who will by, its often better to put something like that in your local paper, or one of those "shoprite" or "trade" type publications, rather than online.
If its something readily shipped and you want a good gaurantee of payment with the least hassle, most people I have talked to like ebay. You can do this in essential anonymity (at least until its time to ge the payment), which is pretty nice. And, you can "screen", to a point by excluding people with poor ratings. You can still be scammed, but there are some "tricks" apparently (mostly you wait for the payment to arrive before shipping something out).
Craigs list works best for services and can work for some local sales, but as you have found, is more risky than ebay.

Because Koolnewt was talking to a Canuck he of course meant a fish bonker on the table and a fork in his back pocket.
