Forget liberals, or democrats, forget socialists or anarchists, forget them all (even the Mormons and the Muslims which both start with the letter "M")

These are the people to watch out for...and they are spreading...and sooner ruther than later, they will take down our interwebs...

What is so wrong about this. Have you ever talked to an Amish person before. I live like an hour and a half away from Lancaster and the Amish there are awesome. Their accents are funnier than Canada's and England's most exotic accents put together!

I live in Lancaster PA and they ain't so bad aside from there damn buggies getting in the way of my car :x

The study focused on all Amish groups that use horse-and-buggy transportation, so it excluded such automobile-driving groups as the Beachy Amish and Mennonites.
Thought this line was funny because a lot of them do actually own or have access to automobiles.. They just keep them secret.

It's not uncommon for Amish families to have a "secret room" that outsiders aren't supposed to see (usually outside of the house in a barn or something) that has modern electronics like television and computers with internet..

Yeah, it's like that!

This sounds like idle speculation not grounded in reality.

Do you have any proof of these accusations, or is it just another "I bet the French all speak English when we're not there" bit of mild xenophobia.

They're nice enough people, but my grandparents and aunts and uncles have more problems with them. They always ask for rides into moderately far away towns and even just around so they can get supplies for things, they are always sneaking onto my uncles land and trying to "borrow" his stuff, and if they owe you money for this borrowing and asking for rides, you need to ride their ass to get it, because they really don't want to pay. This is the experience my family has had with them.

I am laughing my ass off. I agree, the French DO speak English when we're not around.!

The Amish around here don't own their own cars, usually, but they have no problem hiring someone else to take them to the market or to work. They use cell phones, but only for work.

They have large families, so yes, they are expanding.

The local groups disdain drinking, but smoking pot/selling pot is OK... Or so the teenagers like to inform people.

These teenagers even had kneepads and tennis shoes on!
This made me laugh uncontrollably for some reason.

Those girls are TALL. Whoa.

Perhaps this will help dispel myths about the Amish:
While the Amish are at an increased risk for a number of genetic disorders, researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James) have found their tendencies for clean living can lead to a healthier life. Overall cancer rates in the Amish population are 60 percent of the age-adjusted rate for Ohio and 56 percent of the national rate. The incidence of tobacco-related cancers in the Amish adults is 37 percent of the rate for Ohio adults, and the incidence of non-tobacco-related cancer is 72 percent. The Amish have protection against many types of cancer both through their lifestyle—there is very little tobacco or alcohol use and limited sexual partners—and through genes that may reduce their susceptibility to cancer.

The Amish may look alike to us outsiders, but you find all the variations of personality that you do in any other group. Some are jerks/outright abusive, some are extreme tightwads, some are extremely compassionate and kind, some are ... anything else in between.

I have never met with any dishonesty as you describe, but you do want to be careful in trading with them. They know how to get a good bargain and if you are not similarly astute-- watch out!

The only real problem I have had/heard of is that sometimes they take on jobs without the skills they need. I would hire them in a second to build anything out of wood. However, I would be more careful about having them put a metal roof up or such. When a friend of mine hired them, they did not know to put wide flashing up (just as an example).

No, doesn't matter. All the revenue the government receives is wasted anyways.

There's no way I can forget about Mormons. They always seem to have a knack for coming over when I'm watching a good basketball game, especially the last 2:00. I try to tell them nicely I'm not interested but they never seem to pick up on the fact that I'm WATCHING THE DAMN GAME! If you've ever argued with one (or two or three) you know how relentless they can be in trying to convert you.

I amy be giving away the farm here, but those Mormons are like the Honda guys in the commercial. They really will do ANYTHING to help you. I've had them do some painting and my husband had them help him build a wall. They don't stop at our door anymore, I think our address got blacklisted for the Mormon Bicycle Brigade.

Since they are required to help you, I say use them!

Smartly, the Amish don't offer the same free labor. It allows them to put their resources towards buidling the Amish Nation State.

I mark the first day of Summer when I see my first Mormon on the street trying to hawk his religion. They don't have hell, only three levels of heaven, or so one of those helpful Utahians told me. When I mentioned the fact that there might be more levels of hell but no dead mormon has beaten the third level boss, he was not pleased. I love those guys, so quietly crazy.
