Why is Arkansas pronounced Arkansaw but Kansas isn't pronounced Kansaw?

Our Kansas City.. So I'd assume that arkansas is Our Kansas in kansas.

I think what RK means is is most people pronounce Arkansas Arkansaw, but in Kansas they say Are-KansasGuiscard wrote:I have no idea what this means... The State Arkansas is Arkansaw even if you live in kansas, however the the river is the Are- kansas river.
I'm from and live in Wichita, the arkansas river goes right through town.
