When the intensity cubes fail you

It's about the most frustrating thing in the world when you are in the middle of a cascading elimination run to win a standard escalating game, and that one territory just defies all odds and beats you back. If it's a complicated map, where you had to dedicate a separate regiment to deal with them, you are out of options when this happens.

What you estimate to be enough is never enough.

Of course the die or the cards can be frustrating, every player feels that way on occasion, but honestly the only thing to be done is to suck it up because it's only a game.Complaining to your blameless opponent only demeans yourself and can easily get you into a fight with someone who has no control over matters anyway.

Agreed, no point in taking it out on your opponent(s). Just a very disheartening feeling when you allocate 7 to take care of that single that's in a remote location and the impossible odds make themselves possible.

know what you mean: I sent a stack of 12 against 1 the other day... 2 survived...

Yeah, that always sucks, but at least you finally prevailed.

I'm talking about when you absolutely have to take the territory. Like eliminating number 2 of a 5 man elimination run where everything is set up perfectly. You're trucking right along through the player in North America on World 2.1, and you advance 8 to Cuba so you can take out the 1 on Caribbean. You absolutely have to have it, but the bulk of your strength needs to continue on to the main fight. 9 should theoretically be more than enough to take out a 1. I don't know what the odds are of a 1 surviving 6 4v1 battles, a 3v1 battle, and a 2v1 battle, but they have to be pretty damn low.

I usually put up 5-7 against a single troop, and 95% of the time it gets me the territory.

Though when it fails it's like this:

Worst I had was 17v2, and all 17 gone.

When my intensity cubes failed me I threw them away and got my old trusty dice back :)

If you don't like randomness you could always take up Stratego?

When the intensity cubes fail you,

to whom do you cry your pleas for justice?

I find that when my dice fail miserably, most veteran players notice it and comment. That takes a lot of the sting away :P.
