Record keeping is definitely a big part of organizing, everyone wants to know their records. So lets throw something out there. How do you keep records? What works best?

I personally like a spreadsheet saved as an image (with alternating background colors/gradients OR a bracket).
Admittedly it's extra work to save and upload the image (as OPie does), but this guarantees the formatting is as you intended and it's easier to resort (the spreadsheet) when you make updates.

I also use the excel spreadsheets...especially for a big league it makes sorting and managing much easier and the imaging process doesn't take that long...I update standings several times a week and it doesn't seem like much of a burden...and yes...players definitely like to stay updated on that.

Kinda n00b question but I haven't had anything to do with it before so... how do you update the excel sheets to forums?
As my first but definitely not last tourny was very simple then I just calculated the points and used a word document but I could use knowledge of how to upload/post an excel chart.

I use good old fashioned pencil and paper.
Sometimes I use Word.

1. Update your spreadsheet. (Save it as the .xls file - Save does NOT mean Close)
2. Take a screen capture (Alt-Prnt Scrn)
3. Open MS Paint or other Image editing software. Paste the screen capture.
4. Save this image as [tourney_name_standings.jpg] (overwrite existing image - yes).
5. Upload this image to an image hosting service (imageshack.us or photobucket.com)
6. Edit your Original Post in your tourney thread to include image [ img ] tags (without the spaces) that point to the image
Viola, you are done !

There is still quite a bit of record keeping involved, especially if you are running a league style tournament. Everyone will want to see standings that are updated regularly and such.

I use Excel for EVERYTHING. It has so much more flexibility than Word.
