how come everytime i begin to win in a game, my opponent stops playing. They just sit there when before we were quickly trading turns.

If it's freestyle, then they're waiting for you to leave so they can play their turn without you starting and getting bonuses. If it's not, then they're just dicks.

Either way, their dicks. For the most part it is a jerkish move, but other times people have to do stuff or just lose motivation to continue.
