DOn't worry, your bank will probably shutter its doors by the end of the week. Was this the cash for clunkers program?

I'm fixin' to check out the clunkers deals this week.

That is why I am asking. Wondering if there is an income limit on eligibility.

No idea at all... but there's a lot of ads on the tube atm
and I don't anticipate this program lasting too long.

I found on kbb.com a link that allows you to see if your car could qualify for tradein. My wife's does not and hers is the one I would love to upgrade.

The new car "averages" 22mpg...my old car was 18mpg...so yes I used the $3500 cash for clunkers option. My old car had a 5.7liter 350 cubic inch v8.

EDIT: What really kills me is the car cost more than my 4 year college education...

So it get's around 15 street and 22 highway(That seems to be what the MPG lie is about nowadays)? And I thought it was $4500 for cash for clunkers, or is that for s specific year or condition(recently saw an ad on T.V., $4500 and double gov't money I was like "Government, money, people?) or something?

Your car had a 350 cubic inch engine. So the government gave you money to trade that in on a nice Honda. After giving GM money because you're not buying another one of those.

old car was 15-23, 18 average.
New car is 20-26, 22 average.

If the new car is 4mpg or better, you get $3500. If the new car is 10mpg or better, you get $4500.

I didn't want a GM, america doesn't make good cars. But I did buy an american car, even though it's honda. 50% of the car is american parts. 30% is japanese parts. The car is assembled in East Liberty Ohio, USA. The Engine is made in the USA, the transmission is made in Japan. It's an American car.

I didn't want a GM, america doesn't make good cars. But I did buy an american car, even though it's honda. 50% of the car is american parts. 30% is japanese parts. That's what a lot of people don't understand, most foreign cars are built right here in the U.S. to avoid U.S. trade barriers, such as quotas and tarrifs. Heck, there's a huge Mistubishi plant in Bloomington, IL (forty miles from my house). There's always a bunch of cars rolling off the assembly line over there.

I read that the governemnt changed the eligibility requirements to 19 mpg, thus eliminating some cars that dealers thought were eligible. One report had the dealer going after the buyer for the $4500. Again, ANYTHING the government runs gets screwed up.

Be VERY VERY careful about anything but the official government site. The plans are not even finalized fully and already scam websites abound. You should be able to tell if your make/model/year qualify without giving any personnal information .. if they ask, just exit.

Apparently to get the best deal from dealers, bargain, then mention "cash for clunkers".

thanks for the tip. kbb is kelly blue book's site, so it is pretty legit. But like I said, the rules just changed again. Hers is still not eligible.

Now the program is suspended. The Govt ran out of money.

My parents got their new truck at the right time (new black Chevy Silverado) they $4500 because their old truck got 9mph on a good day.

In less than a week it was out of money....that's crazy. Just goes to show the government should have given all that relief to american citizens...we would have spent it better than they did.

EDIT:

Even before the suspension, some in Congress were seeking more money for the auto sales stimulus. Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., wrote in a letter to House leaders on Wednesday requesting additional funding for the program.

"This is simply the most stimulative $1 billion the federal government has spent during the entire economic downturn," Miller said Thursday. "The federal government must come up with more money, immediately, to keep this program going."

Who got that money to buy cars with if it was not American citizens?

I think he meant, more programs that actually benefit the individual consumer instead of projects like repaving runways at airports or showing porn in San Fran.

or instead of bailing out the banking industry, if they had given the money to all americans, we would have all paid off our loans and gotten caught up on our mortages, and then refinanced with ones that made sense, and then the banking industry would have LOTS of money....people would be buying things etc....

12,100,000,000,000 / 304,000,000 = 12,100,000 / 304 = $39,802.63 PER PERSON

So the government could have given every single person in the us 40 grand. A family of four would get $160,000. That;s alot of money.
