If you have a few close friends you want to invite, I'm sure that would be fine.
Just don't go sending your invite to every person that has ever visited the forums. That'll just make people mad and give your group a bad rep.

It would help if you tried to create a group that people wanted to join. I've moved several of your threads recently and you need to come up with a better idea than what you have so far.

As mentioned, Callouts if your best bet. Sending out mass-unsolicited PMs may get your disciplined if many users complain.
