Blatant farming continues unabated

Despite all the talk, blatant farming is continuing unabated.

Game 3950246

These guys will continue to keep inflating their scores into the stratosphere until something is done to fix the scoring system.

To get ahead, you must farm.

lancehoch wrote:Since this thread has digressed into flaming and flame baiting, I am locking the thread. Also, farming has recently been determined to be gross abuse of the game and is a punishable offense so there is not need to have a "not farmers guild" as no one is a farmer at this point.

And now an attempt at giving credit to players who do not get the majority of their points from farming unskilled players has been thwarted by the mods on the grounds of flaming because "no one is a farmer at this point".

By stifling our discussion on scoring system reform, you have made it clear that official CC policy is to maintain the system that rewards farming.

Farming ?'s is one thing, but I see nothing wrong with a coordinated freestyle team whomping on stripers dumb enough to set one up in the first place. There's farming (bad), and then there's beating people that simply don't play the game very well. Big difference.

Besides, you seem to be tacitly suggesting that either A) people only be allowed to join games with equivalently ranked players, or B) that freestyle team games be eliminated. Bad idea either way.

Not only that, But I got a pm from Lance, telling me that I can not use the term "Newbie raper". I told him that I would abide by his wishes. I asked him to tell me what violation of the forum rules that this covers. I have not received any reply from him. I genuinely want to abide by the rules, but I am now very confused to exactly what the rules are. I am assuming that they are what ever the mods agree with. If one of them does not share your view, I guess that, that is considered against the rules. Someone please help me to understand. How am I to be free to express my opinion ? Does this mean that I can only have an opinion as long as the mods agree with it ?

Don't be silly. I'm sure you wouldn't be allowed to use the terms "Farm Nazi" either, but it doesn't specifically say so in the rules. It's hardly stifling your freedom of speech.

You've got me all wrong, man. I do not wish to protect the guys that are losing these games. If you lose, you lose. That's that. I have no pity for losers. I'm looking at it from the point of view of wanting a scoring system where it is impossible to inflate your score by winning against losers all the time.

Incandenza wrote:Besides, you seem to be tacitly suggesting that either A) people only be allowed to join games with equivalently ranked players, or B) that freestyle team games be eliminated. Bad idea either way.

I have been active in Sugs and Bugs for the past month, contributing to various suggestions on scoring systems that would tend to indicate that if A has a higher score than B then A tends to beat B. I urge anyone who wants a scoring system like this to take the time to read some of the suggestions before dismissing them all as impractical.

The feedback seems to indicate that the majority of players like the option of being able to inflate their scores by winning against unskilled players all the time. I can't help but feel that some players who seem to be posting in favor of this just don't understand the point. Because it seems obvious that one would NOT want a system like this, unless farming is the point of the game.

oVo wrote:Who cares? This subject is a bore.

It is a bore. I've almost given up, sick of the flaming and off-topic posts, especially now that it seems like the mods are stifling discussion of scoring reform by locking threads.

Again, does anyone know any RISK like site where you can only get to the top by beating peers?

Considering it is very hard to set up a game as team #2, this is hardly farming...more like hunting and gathering in my book. They saw some easy points, and they are taking them. Any team that team #2 plays will appear to be inexperienced compared to them.

lackattack wrote:"Newbie Farming" is the technique of setting up as many games as possible (either by starting or joining them) with New Recruits to gain easy points by taking advantage of difficult game options and the fact the New Recruits are more likely to deadbeat. Some players have been farming extensively - even sending hundreds of PMs to the latest members to get them into their games.

This is a gross abuse of the game. It gives the New Recruit "victims" a poor first experience and reduces the chances of them sticking around. As farmers move up the scoreboard it also harms the competitive nature of Conquer Club - the scoreboard is meant to measure skill in the game, not "harvesting" techniques.

In accordance with the desires and feedback of the majority of the community, our rules and as a new leaf for 2009, it is our New Years resolution to make Newbie Farming forbidden. Members who continue this practice will receive point resets and then progressively longer website bans.

This does not mean you will get in trouble for joining a game here and there with many new recruits. We are only talking about the systematic targeting of new recruits.

We have taken the following measures to stop Newbie Farming:

[list][*] For New Recruits, we filtered out game options from the join page if they reduce the chance of new players reaching their 1st promotion (see here here and here).

This is the only persons definition of newbie farming that matters. What don't you understand about it? You can cry, bicker, and pull your hair out all you want about what you define as farming but don't expect it to amount to anything. Here's my advice: Go buy a pillow, draw a farmer on it with marker, and proceed to pummel it every time you see a game that resembles your individual definitions of farming. Channel those frustrations and built up anxieties into some physical exercise that will actually result in something constructive. You're pulling teeth at this point with the finger pointing. The rules are here. Let's just see who can and can't follow them, shall we? Let the score resets and CC bans begin!

Yet again, the inconsistency is revealed and the "say what you will and someone will just have to foe you" policy doesn't actually exist when a moderator doesn't want it to. Color me "not surprised".

Just let it go, mate. It's obvious they can't keep their ranks without playing Cooks and such, let them be. Oneday, they'll be stuck playing real players, and that's when they'll get their punishments; losing all those points they hoarded.

Who said anything about newbie farming?

Read my post. The purpose is to try to convince people that we should change the scoring system so nobody can inflate their score by farming unskilled players. Every poll on every suggestion I've seen in Sugs and Bugs comes up ANTI farming by at least 75% to 25%. This should translate into administrative action but it hasn't. Maybe this thread can spur it on.

It is clear from your personal emotional reaction that you are scared of this happening and will go to any length to divert the discussion away from its intended goal into another flame session. I'm surprised you haven't received a forum ban for such typical, obvious behavior.

How will they get better if these "unskilled players" you speak of never play anyone better than them?

I mean, I could win any chess tournament I want if I just played in the kindergarten league, but if I went and played with the grandmasters for a year I would definitely be one of the "unskilled" players, but I would eventually get far better than if I was forced to play people of equal or lesser ability.

Besides, it would be near impossible to regulate who is playing lower ranked players for fun, who's doing it maliciously, who occasionally does it, who's teaching, and who's just trying to play the game but then that damn n00b joined again.
