Alright, I tried something different with the ships... What I originally did with the first ship was take a model ship and run a photoshop filter on it and then played with the gradient and whatnot on it. So instead of toying withthe same ship, I just ran the same process on a different ship. Here's what I've got:

I like both ships. Only thing now is that they seem to be on top of the water, rather than in the water, can you add an effect on the hull of the ship so is seem like the ships are more in the water?

Pretty much yeah, like any computer language though, the second anything is just slightly different the program is going to yell, scream, and then give your bank account numbers to your ex-girlfriends.

Nice IH !! I do like them as diff ships & diff contrast.

As for the ships floating. Maybe flat edge the very bottom. The only thing that slightly stands out is the keel on the Brit ships. The French looks ok to me.

Helix, you've done really well to bring this map up to it's current standard - well done

You're really not far away from the finished article now - At a quick glance I can only see two things of note:

1. The spacing between your text is inconsistent - compare Massachusetts Bay and New York for example. I know you've done this to save space in the smaller territories, but it would look better if you had tighter spacing all over the map (and only had it particularly tight where you absolutely need it as per Bunker Hill)

2. The minimap looks like an island floating off the East Coast.. One way to combat this would be to change the colour of the sea in the bottom corner to something more parchmenty (or possibly duplicate the flag you're using for the legend?). If you then add a drop shadow to the top/right side of the minimap, it will look more like it's something overlaid, rather than the mythical West-Coast Island

Jefjef made a few good suggestions via PM about the legend saying soldiers instead of armies and the readbaility of the ship names in white. He suggested going with colored names for the ships, which doesn't show up well at all against the sea so I went with black instead.

I'm working on the XML at the moment and trying to figure out how exactly to do these bonuses, but I think I've got it. Does anyone know if there is a coordinate tester somewhere? I think all my coordinates are on but I would like to see it myself before I submit. Any suggestions?

Looking good, the French flag on the small map is still in the old yellow color, and while the readability of the text is okay, I think a light shadow/glow will help, especially on the small map.

I'm liking the map, and I didn't read through all 18 pages, but I'm finding the font used for the territory names to be had to read. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Let's call this XML Version 0.1

I can't seem to get the xml checker to work... when I test the XML it says 1 error, but doesn't tell what the error is. The closest thing I can find is that it says "line 1: {\rtf1\mac\ansicpg10000\cocoartf824\cocoasubrtf480 - Start tag expected, '<' not found"

I have no idea what this means. The first line has the appropriate brackets. Plus I copied it from the XML guide. Advice on that would be appreciated.

Secondly, I can't get hosting to work so I can test my coordinates. Thoughts on this would be appreciated as well.

I'm pretty much done for tonight I did a ton of debugging and the map tool says the XML is valid, but I can't test it with the map image. When I click on the link I'm getting:

I'm too tired to try now, but if I had to guess, I think the overrides might be out of order inside the continents, but I'm probably wrong.

There are some problems:
1. Order is important
FIrst <continents>, then <territories>
this is the general scheme about the order of things into the file:

2. Bad typos, if you write <Border> is not like to write <border>
3. If you open a tag <>, you have always to close that tag </>

you can find an xml guide here: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 82&start=0

When you test your xml file and the checker gives to you a invalid result, if you scroll down the page, you can see all the errors listed.
Then simply using your notepad and its function "go to...", type the number of the line you need to fix and search the problem.

Red and Nobodies, thanks so much for the help.

I finally got a site to host correctly for me... fileden was just not working at all for me... i kept getting errors. I got ripway to work though.

I ran the new and updated versions of the XML you guys have given me and fine tuned them. The coordinates should be spot on and all the bonuses accounted for. Thanks again Nobodies for really walking this through with me, couldn't have done it with out you.

Okay, so as someone from the same perspective of a player who doesn't visit the Foundry, if this map was to go live right now (and I say this because I haven't looked at the map in over a month):

Text is a bit hard to read, mainly on the small. Slight white-yellow glow would do wonders (look at the glow you have in the legend)
he opposite holds true for the title. I think it would benefit from less glow, and a different font from the same one covering the entire map. http://www.dafont.com/jefferson.font is a personal favorite of mine.
The flag is nice, but sloppy. I think it's the drop shadow; a black outer glow looks the same, but wouldn't accentuate the almost over-jaggetyness of the bottom edge as much. Be sure to keep it on "Softer" rather than "Precise."
Just a nitpick, but the way that the circle of stars barely pokes out from under the minimap is a bit unpleasing to the eye.
The dots are large, too close together, not straight enough, and in general cumbersome. 3px brush with somewhere between 175-200% spacing is usually best. From there, take the pen tool and trace out the paths—it will make them look very nice and clean. Then, on the path(s) you have, right-click and select "Stroke Path." Be sure you have your brush set to the right settings, and select "Brush." Hit enter and you're good to go.
It took me a couple minutes of thinking to figure out how the gameplay worked. At first I thought each territory was a colony, but then I realized what you were saying. Now I see that each one in the minimap is what counts, and that the "The 13 American Colonies" actually doubles as a label for the minimap and the title. My solution would be to, vertically to the left of the numbers in the table, write "(as shown in minimap)." Another thing I'd add to the tables would be "Hold Colonies" and "Get Armies" on a separate line. It seems you have room to move the table down some, making room for that line.
My last gripe is that Massachusetts is a bit unclear on the minimap. If I didn't know better, I'd think that Massachusetts is JUST current Maine, and the real "homeland" Mass. is unlabeled (instead of today's Maine being owned by Mass. at the time). The solution is probably to abbreviate Massachusetts as "Mass.;" move it off the coast, so the entire word is over "water;" and add another line from current Mass. as well as today's Maine to the word "Mass." Hope that made sense.

3. Eh, I kind of like the stars and am inclined to keep them.

As for the ship connections, I agree totally. However, I'm one of those Photoshop users that has no idea how to use the pen. If you can describe in detail the process for making a curved dotted line, I will definitely follow and make the changes. I did a google search for the technique but can't seem to find one that shows me how to make a curved line... everytime I try I end up with some curved mess of a shape.

4. I added the Hold and Get to the bonus box, hope it makes things clearer. As for the reference to the minimap a) I can't really find room and b) the minimap is like right next to the bonus box. If it takes a second for the rules to register in the mind of a new player, I don't think that its a problem, if it were absolutely confusing then I would understand the need for clarification. It seems alright, especially with the clarification in the box.

5. I really want to avoid any more abbreviations on this map so what I did was add a line to the Massachusetts word pointing to both Maine and Massachusetts. Hopefully it will clarify any doubts a player might have.

Again, thanks for some feedback. If you can link me or write up a tutorial on how to do lines with pen, I sure would appreciate it!

For the stars, I just suggested you move the minimap over to cover up the little part that sticks out, or even manually erase that. I like them as well, just looks a bit odd poking out.

What I've done is taken your image, duplicated it, taken away a path on the bottom one, and overlayed your current image on top at 50% opacity, so we can see what we're tracing.Now, we take the pen tool and click where we want to start (it's hard to see but just to the right of Savannah there's a square)

Now, click on a point where the first curve of the line comes to and end and drag so the pen tool line matches up with the path. In this example I only did one curve, but on other, longer ones, there will be multiple points

From there, go into the paths tap, right-click the path, and select "Stroke Path"
