Nuclear Spoils Medal

Postby lackattack on Fri Jun 18, 2010 12:51 pm

Nuke Medal

I'm happy to announce that we have a new game achievement medal for Nuclear Spoils:

Image

Thanks to JOHNNYROCKET24 for suggesting this!

Note: even though you might already qualify for this medal, it will only be awarded on your next win.

General Medals

The Contest Achievement medal has been re-purposed to make for more opportunities for you to earn achievement medals outside of the game:

General Achievement (Awarded to members that won a challenge, contest, or event)

The Special Contribution medal has been renamed to better reflect what the medal is intended for - recognizing noteworthy contributions other than maps and tournaments:

General Contribution (Awarded to members that made a noteworthy contribution to the website or community)

"Illegitimate" Medals Removed

In related news, we've retracted 19 Terminator medals and 3 Assassin medals that were achieved by playing 2-player games. Since 2-player Terminator and Assassin games play exactly like Standard, we blocked them a long time ago. Now I finally did the cleanup and converted 3040 old 2-player Terminator games and 688 old 2-player Assassin games back to Standard. To uphold intergrity of the medals we are also looking into blocking Manual Initial Troops on maps where it does not have any effect. Stay tuned...

Bold Neutral Player

In unrelated news, the neutral player now appears bold in the game log to make it easier for you to notice. Thanks to Dragonah for suggesting this! Non-player usernames are also bold in the game chat now.

It seems only fair that if you are handing out medals for one type of spoils, you should be handing them out for Escalating, Flat Rate, and No Spoils victories as well.

oh no, I don't want to play a ton of nuclear games :(. I guess have a while to wait, have a lot more medals I can get first. But I won a nuclear game, so I'm one of the first with the medal :D (even though it's only bronze)

This medal comes at a very inopportune time for me. Since I was medal-hunting up until April, while this setting was already out, and I am very angry about this, I'll take this opportunity to air my grievances.

Why is this medal coming out now, and not 6 months ago, when the setting was created? I could have played my FS manual speed 3-man assassin games with nuclear cards!

But seriously, why do we have a nuclear medal and not an escalating, no spoils, and flat rate medal? Makes no sense to me.

I'm not going to go back to those FS 3-mans, so I'll probably end up getting this medal eventually by starting lots of nuclear quads and farming noobs, even though I don't really want to... :(

More medals would possibly be nice, but strategy for nuclear is totally different than any of the other medals, so having one for it does make sense even if the site doesn't award medals for the other spoils.

No-spoils pretty much ensures that it's going to be difficult to break a bonus once taken, which makes it a build game; and escalating requires surviving until (and through) higher cashes, which makes it a semi-build game. Flat rate can also be a semi-build game because you have to be able to withstand a 10-cash against a 4-cash.

Nuclear, once spoils are cashable, is totally *not* a build game. It's more of a bait-n-switch game, setting the opponent up to take the region you're prepping to nuke (meow! squeak!), and making sure you clear the heck out of the regions you know you'll have to nuke.
