Welcome Comrades to the 88th edition of the Dispatch
Hippo has taken a well-deserved vacation so is off in the oceans of the South Pacific, which gives me the pleasant opportunity to present this issue of the Dispatch.
The interviewee this issue is Trinicardinal, and as expected of a Chatter, waxes lyrical on all topics under the sun. I thankfully get an honorary mention in his discourse, and am only one of many that have gotten the chance to know this esteemed individual. *cough cough* for a second there I was wondering if I really was talking about the bosom bud of Ace!

My own attention was on the latest TPA2 results, as the latest update makes me regret the 1 game loss that helped games-man Swifte close the gap to my own partner dowian2 in the leaderboard!
Foundry has made me ponder a bit. The articles have always been top-notch, and they enticed me to try my own hand at commenting on maps in beta etc. That was not a pretty affair as I found myself a fish out of water! So after floundering my way around, and feeling out of my depth at some points, in the end I found it to be a quite rewarding experience, to be able to help in the development of maps in unique and creative ways.
Plus, it's always better to be acquainted with a map before it's thrust upon you in Random
Strategy found itself to be an interesting concept, but tougher in execution, and we've made the collective decision that it's probably best to fold it back into it's rightful home of Freestyle!
Finally, I'm off to publish this issue, and I leave you with some insight into the travails of Dispatch publishing courtesy of the step-by-step guide pioneered by hippo in the preceding issue:

Q. Are there a lot of cardinals in Trini(dad)? Not really… there aren't many for sure and none in the trees. Q. How much do you enjoy being the Head Chatter compared to a Chatter? A lot more – it’s a lot more fun especially when coming up with new ideas for Live Chat Events. At least I don’t have to worry about it being turned down by anyone else (well except for admin) Q. Who is your hero on CC? In real life? In fiction? Hero on CC - ironically enough Ace Rimmer. Anytime I’m not sure on what to do as Head Chatter I ask myself what he would do. Q. How many times has Bruceswar fallen asleep when modding chat? You mean he does it while awake? I always thought he sleep modded. I'm sure I've heard snores while he was banning somebody! Q. What do you like most about Live Chat? Its Live Chat… nuff said Q. What do you dislike most about Live Chat? I hate having to ban people. Sometimes they leave me with no choice though. Q. What is your favorite map? I have no real favorite although World 2.1 has been relatively good to me Q. What is the largest number of people youve seen in Live Chat at one time? Probably about 35 or so when lack decided to stress test LC.. In doing so I think he inadvertently also stress tested the Chat mods who were present at the time. Q. If 2 people get into an argument that necessitates disciplinary action who would you discipline (and why)? We’ve faced this a few times in Live Chat… Generally speaking its both since they’ve usually both violated the same rule and I can’t discipline one and not the other.. That’s not fair. Needless to say sometimes the second person isn’t very pleased with me when that happens (especially since they probably made the complaint in the first place) but like I say.. fair is fair. that's like saying bust him (and not me) because he did what I did.. only he did it first. Sorry… what’s good for one is good for all. Q. How many times have you typed a reply and then clicked send before realising: Q. Is it your fault that the Chat program keeps causing my (thehippo8) computer to crash? Of course not.. you just need to throw your computer in the trash and buy a new one from me… I can give you a special deal on “immune” computers Q. What does CC do with all the chat info - or are you writing a book? I don’t know what CC does with it but I have built up a few hundred pages of blackmail material I mean interesting chat quotes. Q. Where are chocolates? All over but Trinidad Cocoa is very prominent in a lot of them… especially in some of the best! Luckily for me I had some very generous client this last year so i got quite a bit of free chocolate. Q. What player that used to be active in live chat but is no longer, do you miss the most? Ace Rimmer… he’s cool and funny and always had an interesting perspective in LC. In addition during the time that he’s been around he’s the best Head Chatter we’ve had in LC. Q. What player that used to be active in live chat but is no longer, do you miss the least ? I try not to dwell on negatives so I can’t really provide any names… If I don’t miss them them Its really because I don’t remember them anyway unless someone reminds me of a particular name. Q. If you had to make a sales pitch to promote live chat, what would you say? I hate sales pitches. I figure if the product can’t speak for itself then it’s not really worth much. LC speaks for itself. The proof being in the number of new people who come into LC and end up being regulars yourself included. If anyone wants a sales pitch visit LC a few times and judge for yourself.. I’ll let LC make its own sales pitch. Q. Who on this site, that is not a live chat regular, would you most like to see in live chat? Just about everyone as long as they like chatting we would love them to be in Chat, The thing I find cool about LC is that it’s like a one stop shop.. You can get answers to your questions, arrange games and Chat. You can even create your own private room for your purpose.. lots of clans use it for planning. Live mafia is played in a private room. We’ve even created spam rooms so we can legally post spam not to mention the joke corner etc. Its amazing what you can do in there really. Q. Who on this site, that is not a live chat regular, would you absolutely not like to see in live chat? I can’t say there’s any user that fits this one… Anyone who wants to use LC, whether for arranging games, getting help or simply chatting is welcome.. Then I met and married my wife upon which I converted and am now a Muslim. That being said I believe that all religions have the same basic elements and essential teaching to them and how we live (aka how we go about our daily lives) is more important than how many times we go to a place of worship. Q. Do you miss GLGH in the live chat? He’s one I tend not to remember so basically no. Q. How many time have you had to tell eddie2 to shut up? I can make/pass on the suggestions but the decisions are up to admin. What I can say is that the question has already been raised and we are also (right now) examining Live Chat for some possible improvements (again I can’t give a time frame) With any luck we’ll get that and some more smilies as well as some other changes as well (not necessarily in that order). One where I can stay home… play CC, hang out in Live Chat and earn a few hundred thousand dollars every month… needless to say I haven’t found a job like that yet. Q. I’d love to see a proper sitter function put in place so you don’t have to give you password to anyone and when you r sitter takes a turn its automatically announced in game chat. Q. Which is your favourite map? I think I covered this before… no real favorites… my best scoring map has been World 2.1 Q. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won lots of money? Q. What is your favourite colour? Generally blue, sometimes red. depends on what the colour is for actually Q. I (plurple) don't feel that LC is live enough so could you accommodate it at your place? Q. Who is your favourite off-topics poster and why? That’s a tough one because there are so many to choose from for so many different reasons. Its generally interesting reading posts from Gillipig, Gilligan, Andy, Robinette, AOG, Nietzsche, Phatscotty, DoomYoshi, Crazyirishman, FunkyTerrance, saxi, jonesey, Symmetry, Mr Changsha, as well as others . I’m really hard pressed to pick a favourite out of them. Q. How do you feel about the gun control debate in america? Q. Who is your favourite mod? Another hard one.. there are so many great mods and some that I’ve hardly interacted with. I’ve always had good interactions with iron, den, Isaiah, koontz, nobodies, Arya, Leehar, pcm, blake, SirSeb, strike, Duk, hippo, saf, Mets, all of them from Tech, TD’s, the Hunters, and ofc the Chatters (past and present).. don’t ask me to limit it to one Q. What is your favorite game type? Anything that’s not too demanding on me right now…. I like strategy games especially but I don’t have that much times for games… CC fits well.. here I generally play mostly standard or terminator games but my game count is low. Q. Favorite CC partner? I don’t play many team games but so far, what was probably my best team experience was a quads game with Swifte, cooldeals and BGtheBrain. So we have a 3 way tie for that category. Pirlo is also awesome especially when learning a map that he knows (Monsters in my case) and team games with the Chatters were quite good also for various Whac A Mod games. Playing on a team game with Ace Rimmer is great also… but it’s a lot of fun to play against him. Q. What do you think about 11 posts in a row by the same person? Q. Who is your favorite ex-mod? Gee… also so many to choose from… Ace Rimmer, Gilligan, Victor Sullivan, e84, Masli, Q. What do you think about those colorful unicorns? They’re very colourful but why did you put food colouring on them?? Q. If you had to choose your successor out of the current LC mods who would you choose? nagerous is second in command and his main challenge as head mod was his time dure to rl. As long as he could manage it I’d give him back the job.

When a game is finished and archived the round information is not retained. This can be problematical for any TO who might be giving additional points to serial terminations, such as the prolific TO, greenoaks, as he does in his Good Luck, Good Hunting series. Well, we are truly well into the new year now. Nothing new to play on this year apart from New Zealand but we do have 3 maps almost ready to play and should be in beta any day now.

This issue, we have some thoughts from yours truly over a very old idea that got dug up recently, generalhead asks what would the foundry or even the site be without the help of volunteers and lastly, which maps are in the foundry right now. Some new ones so make sure you take a look and help those ones you want to see in play. If anyone has been wondering what has happened to the competitions, do not despair, they will make a return next issue.

Limit the amount of maps a map maker can have in the foundry. nd 2010, when our esteemed foundry foreman was the almighty MrBenn , it struck me as an idea worth perusing again, so do not shoot me.In an attempt to keep the development of maps moving in the workshops and forge, mapmakers will be limited to developing up to two maps at any one time - the idea of this is to encourage cross-fertilisation.
What would this mean for the main foundry? (Pros) All it would mean is that fewer maps would be in the main foundry. The pros for this include allowing the foundry cartographers more time to look over individual maps. Whilst we all strive to make maps fair and balanced before beta, more time from the blue boys will allow far fewer mistakes. With less maps to look over, the players who do come into the foundry will have less choice but more effort would be made to analyse the maps there by those that do come. Map makers would then have more time to look over their own maps. Less maps will be put onto vacation (with the new rules, this is a good thing). What would this mean for the main foundry? TheSaxlad here filling in for Macbone this issue on the SoC update!ElricTheGreat is running the SoC Student Terminator Shootout II! Similar to the last competition (which was won by Musicdude33 ) the competition involves 6 or 7 player terminator games and over 100 cooks (or students) vying for the prize of a glittering society of cooks medal as well as 3 months of premium! Signups have now finished, but for those of you wanting to learn more about terminator games and the way they are played, maybe have a look at some of the games, see the moves that the competitors are using, and root for your favourite!Viceroy63 and other members of the society have come up with a set of rules or commandments if you will to playing Terminator! Although written in the style of Moses, the advice is definitely not outdated, and well worth a look for anyone! 1. I see that you have played 25 games on this map (out of the 3921 games you have played as at writing this). You have won 64% on Jamaica (as compared with an overall 54%). Don't you think you should play Jamaica more? I would say the first to go in a Jamaica game should win the majority of the time. For me, I’ve had more first goes than not and to be honest I’m still not accustomed to a lot of the happenings around the board. I’m just going to stick with finding it on random occasions. 2. What (if anything) do you like about the look, theme and imagery of the map? The map appears to be very friendly, but it’s a mean ol’ thing. I have always appreciated the child-like glow of the fish and pigs along with the slaves hanging all about the near and far planks of the map. It’s very appealing, just not as easy as it looks. 3. Our game was a manual deployment and trench game. Do you think that made any difference to your usual strategy on this game? I play with a pretty loose concept going into manual trench games. With trench it’s always a good idea to reach out as for as you can, weak as you may be. It’s important to build up plenty of fronts and nab as many bonuses as you can before you clash with your opponent. Be warned! Games can get pretty stagnant with these settings. 4. Given that deployments start on the ships, do you agree that killing your opponent's ships is the basic strategy? If not, why not? It’s hard to say really. In the trench/adj game we played, a lot of guys were doomed to stay on the ships anyways. Because of this, I was hoping to control a good portion of the board before going after your ships. However, you will find that Jamaican enthusiasts greater than I have targeted the ship right from the beginning and found success in this strategy – just grab your cobs first, stack a bit and smash the ships. Nothing too special. 5. Would you alter your basic strategy in team play? Team play will always spice things up a bit. If it’s trench I’d probably go for bonuses rather than the other team’s ships. If you hit your cobs with ease, help out your teammate with his. Without the trench, I have seen teams only have 1 player grab the cobs and shoot out at the other teams ships with some success. It all depends on your style and how you choose to play it. 6. Do you try and capitalize on the various bonus options on the Island and in Port Royal & Kingston? If so, do you have any preferences for bonuses? Does it make a difference where you start I think it’s a given that some bonuses are better than others on most if not all maps. It’s hard to say things like “never go after Europe” or “always go after Aussy.” I’d say most of the CC greats are opportunists and take what they can get. If you can steal bonuses from your opponent, do it. Otherwise, take time to really justify attacking that neutral for the bonus, if you believe in the play, make it. The biggest problem I’ve noticed in lower rated players is a constant over-neediness for bonuses and especially specific bonuses. When the opportunity is there for an easy +2 go for it, but you don’t want to take a bonus and give it right back to an opponent -- regardless of which one. In general, I’d leave the bonus nabbing for trench games, but if you find one isolated enough in a no-trench game, latch on to it. 7. Would your strategy regarding bonuses change for team games? Of course! However, I will say there is a huge difference between singles, doubles, triples and quads. And however much I’d like to think I am the master of all game types, I'm not. Generally speaking, trench games you will want to spread out as much as you can (nabbing as many bonuses as you can along the way). If it’s non-trench, stack and then smack some ships, forget about the bonuses. Of course, with everything there are exceptions and unique strategies that come and go so don't shy away from any ideas of your own. 8. Our game did not even get to Port Royal & Kingston - do you see that area as a large aspect of this game usually? If not, why not? Yeah talk about bad dice. And then unfortunately my nuke swept away any chance of recovery for you. I wouldn’t say it was that great of a hindrance (not charging for those small bonuses), but the critique I’ll put on your game play — and most of it is time-troubled pressure — is that you didn’t have a hard-headed dedication for grabbing your cobs. I saw you lose 13v6 and then you stopped going for it (with confusion being the main problem). You really want to get the cobs in trench games. Otherwise, to further answer the question, yes it would have been very beneficial had you reached the docks and cut me off at Morant where I picked up those cheap bonuses. 9. Would your views on Port Royal & Kingston change if you were playing a team game? Team games are always a little different. I think I would say the same thing as I have been saying. Spread out everywhere! Including the Morant – PR Docks connection. 10. How do you rate this map as to complexity? Well I would never try to compare a standard map with a conquest map. As far as conquest maps go I’d say Jamaica is pretty simple. Most of the time you know where you opponent starts. If you have time to look at the map it’s pretty easy to find the bonuses and strategize. It may seem like a daunting task, but for the most part I’d say it’s pretty easy if you put in some time and effort. 11. Do general spoils, types of carding, team play or other factors alter your view on this maps complexity? Cards aren’t very complex -- nothing is too complex. You just have to be willing to adjust to the settings. Find a method to believe in and work around that and you can’t go wrong. 12. Do you have any other comments on this map or otherwise not covered by me? Practice, practice, practice. The more you play it the more you will understand it. You may have to change up your style depending on settings, but for the most part a map is just a map. 1. I see you are in Dynasty - what led you to them, do you enjoy clan wars, what do you see to be the future for clans? I have never really been the most enthusiastic about clans. KraphtOne asked me if I’d join his squad for the next clan battle and offered to put me in some team games and I thought, “why not?” It all seems pretty harmless, I’m not the biggest fan of them, but Dynasty has treated me well. haha conqueror, nah I am just one of those people that takes everything pretty seriously. I’ve been trying to have more fun with it, but it hurts me deep in my soul to lose or not try my best. Top 50 has way passed my expectations, but who knows maybe my competitiveness takes me to new heights. Well it's a recent change. Not sure why, but I have cared more about the community as I have gotten older. I still think there is a glitch in freestyle, but I’ll try to contain myself haha. But yeah the forums are nice. I’ve got nothing bad to say about them. 4. What, if anything, would you do to make CC better? If you are asking me what I’d do, I’d give the players a way to customize maps. There are already so many that it keeps us busy for some time, but I want to see a CC special designer kit
