Map files moved & support ticket fix

Postby lackattack on Wed May 06, 2009 12:15 pm

The location of our map images has changed from www.conquerclub.com/maps/... to maps.conquerclub.com/...

Please be patient when waiting for map graphics to download, because your web browser will not have them cached from the new location.

If they don't show try pressing control-F5 and wait patiently again. If you are using an image blocker you may have to set an exception for maps.conquerclub.com as well.

We changed the location because the map files are now being hosted on the Amazon CloudFront instead of our main web servers. This move will reduce our bandwith costs (which were getting quite high now that we have over 100 maps) and should improve download times for our international members because Amazon CloudFront distributes files from Europe and Asia as well as North America.

=======

Also on the server front, we've recently fixed an email configuration problem that affected support tickets. Some support departments weren't receiving email replies to existing tickets. We're really sorry about this... if you replied to a ticket by email and never got a response... please reply again!

Is this why I got a message earlier saying something like
"Website not available Y" ?

In other words : did we have a downtime or was that a local issue ??

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Is this why none of my maps will load unless I use the larger map format ?

It's been like this for a couple of days now.

Is it supposed to take 8 years and then when it finishes downloading I still can't see it?

I'm in the same boat...thankfully someone suggested I view the maps in large format. This seems to be working, but it is annoying. :-s

My small map is fine. It's the large version that's screwed. The numbers show, but the map itself never draws.

If you're having map problems, try clearing your cache by clicking Ctrl+F5. Or do what lack said in the first post about allowing images.

If you wipe your cache (ctl-F5) it forces your browser to redownload everything on a page again (code, images, video) since the broswer no longer has them stored for easy reach. This usually solves most image issues in my experience.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

I had trouble loading maps so I just cached them myself by viewing the map. To do it just go to http://maps.conquerclub.com/X.S.jpg where X=the name of the map once you load it once it should be cached and you can play the map in a game. It sucks to load 129 maps but if you only play on a few then it isn't a big deal.

Push ctrl F5. This will force your broswer to download the images at their new location.

I've sorted this out now, it was a local problem.
