Manual Initial Troop Placement

Postby lackattack on Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:31 pm

For the longest time you have asked "why can't we decide where top put the armies?". Ask no more.

This popular suggestion is finally reality as a new game option, Initial Troops. It has 2 settings:

Automatic - the usual 3 armies :|

Manual - players decide where to place their armies in a blind freestyle round :D

See Instructions -> Game Options for more details.

As usual, thanks to everyone who suggested manual troop placement or provided feedback on the suggestions. Credit for this particular solution goes to c1arinetboy

Enjoy!

wow cool... I will have to test it and see how it works... a freestyle round, so anybody can place at any time? 1 then have to wait till all others place then place again?

Good point, but maybe it's just a case of don't play Fog+Manual.

Not being a smartass - I really do agree with you, but as you know, some combinations of game options go together better than others, and also on different board sizes(I mean MAP sizes, i obviously DID play Risk on the board, lol).

So maybe just make it your practice to not play Fog+Manual...

I have to say after my first test gane on it, going first is the world. If you do not go first you are done in for. I will not be using this much at all. Too much advantage to going first.

If there was no fog (like in real life) then we could see where others where placing and not be facing a 20 stack with 5 next to it, and going 2nd. That means those men are toast and then some.

Overall OK. Fog Bad idea.... I give this one 2 thumbs up for trying 2 thumbs down for usability.

Well, I think it's cool. It's how I usually play it on a real board. Thought I'd never see it here!

Intersting option...never considered it really :| . At least with that option it's easier to strategically place troops in the best areas of the maps. Given not many players, someone could wind up owning a whole region at the start. I probaly would still perfer the automatic because it makes things harder ;) .

BTW the deployment phase is all Fog so we have no way of knowing where any armies are dropped.

I've seen this on another site. All one does is put all armies on a single country and hope one goes early enough to do maximum damage.

The fog round is there so you don't just wait to see where your enemy deployed, and base your strategy on that. It would be unfair to whoever placed troops first.

BTW, nice update. =D>

It is a freestyle fog round... you all place at the same time, or within the time frame. You also do not know who starts the game which is very bad for team games. Nobody in there right mind would place 5 men next to 7 when the person with 7 gets to start. I will stay far far away from this.

P.S. Warm the Farmers up :) They will be in full force.

Sure it does, if you go first game is over. 100%... Unless dice are so bad you puke. You can take out all the big stacks round 1.

Trust me on this. Why do you think so few people play doubles unlimited forts now? Everybody used to play that style. Now most play chained forts. There is a reason for this.
