Vacation and Abandoned SubForums

Postby The Fuzzy Pengui on Thu Jan 31, 2008 9:29 pm

I was browsing through the Main Foundry Forum to see what had recently been done, and I noticed something I haven't before.

About 1/2 of the first page of posts are either abandoned or on vacation.

I think that it would go a long way in keeping the foundry a clean or tidy place by moving threads that are officially marked abandoned or vacation to their own subforums so the main floor can be used just for active maps.

What are your opinions?

also there should be a section for quenched maps

So we have

    Ideas
    Foundry
    Forge
    Quench

and abandoned / vacation

Theres no need to split quench/FF since there are seperated by stickies :)

If a map is on vacation, there is a chance it may come back to life, if it's abandoned, there's not a chance in hell that it'll come back.

Wrong,

A vacation map has had the map making claiming he WILL return, an abandoned map has either been left unatteneded for a reasonable amound of time or stated that the map maker no longer intends to carry out the project.

But both vacation and abandoned maps ahve every chance of making a comeback.:)

also arent abandoned maps up for grabs by anyone who wants to carry the idea out? and vacation means the idea is still in use right?

good point hera, also note that its always common courtisy (sp?) to ask before taking an idea.

Certainly...

a) Vacationed maps - will (if not necro'd) fall to the bottom.
b) Abandoned maps - will (if not necro'd) fall to the bottom.
c) Quenched forum - unnecessary as the FF maps are stickied.

If you're going to do anything - then lock the abandoned/vacationed maps - then no-one can necro them...

With a note saying - if you want this unlocked please PM a Carto and it will be...

I don't agree with this either, that's why I didn't include it in my poll or post :D

But even tho the others "should" fall to the bottom, they still appear in the main forum which (I believe) should be reserved for active maps only.

This is a terrible idea. There should be a vacation/dead map sub forum. If you lock every thread, then it will be much harder for people to come back, or for people to take the idea. With a subforum- it will be easy to search through previous work on a similar map, or find an idea for a map.

OK then - perhaps the best idea is to just delete posts that necro old threads.

nope. lock them and post that he who wants the thread unlocked must pm a carto.

no point in deleting posts every time a mad man decides to necro something.

Map Abandoned Forum

Postby Sir. Ricco on Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:49 pm

Maybe to help keep this Map Area cleaned up, the mods should put an abandoned forum in here, like in the Tournament Area. Any maps that are abandoned or any maps that do not have any comments since a month.

the abandoned maps simply fall to the bottom. i think we don't need another subforum but we do need to lock all the maps that are abandoned to avoid necrobumping

But moving abandoned/vacation maps to there own sub forum means the community can have more of a focus and find it easier to identify active maps.

P.s. theres already a thread about this so im going to merge it.

Still think that it's immaterial. (See DiM's post)

It can only be good for the Foundry to have only active maps in the Main Foundry...

How frequently does the Developmental Atlas get updated? That's got to be equally as important, as is the Maps In Development thread in GD...

I disagree - if a mapmaker wants to put his/her map on vacation, they should be able to pick it back up whenever they want to rather than relying on a CA to move it back. And dead maps wouldn't be a problem if folks didn't insist on bumping them 14 months after they've been abandoned!

regardless, we're going to be more pro-active about putting abandoned and vacation tags on inactive threads. Hopefully that helps.

Yeah, it's been pretty much useless since i joined in 2006... it's due for an overhaul, and may be getting one.
