College Football Map! [huh?]

Postby wrightfan123 on Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:05 pm

Okay, bear with me. This is the roughest draft in the history of CC. The final draft will look nothing like this. Over the holidays, me and pepperonibread will work on it with his mad PhotoShop skills. So, here goes, my first attempt at a map:

Image

Now before your eyes start bleeding, bear with me. The concept is that there are six "continents", the six major football conferences: Big East(pink), Big 10(blue), Big 12(orange), SEC(green), ACC(red), and PAC 10(yellow). The dots represent the teams in each conference. If you hold an entire conference, you get a bonus, which I have not yet decided on. In the future, they will have little circles with the team logo, or something of that sort. Every team in the conference can attack each other, and there will also be lines(which I have not yet decided on) that connect conferences. Another feature is "rivalry triangles", three colleges that hate each other, which will be connected by red lines going to each college. Each of these will be worth one bonus army. Here are the ones I have so far: Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma; Florida, Miami, FSU; Duke, UNC, NC State; one with Notre Dame (which I accidentaly left out in this version, it will be worth one bonus army), Ohio State, Michigan, or Michigan State; and Cal, USC, and UCLA. If you have any other ideas, please say so. I'm hoping I get some support for this map, so please comment.

Sorry wrightfan, I don't mean to ruin all your fun, but...give up. For all the bonuses, you have to defend between 5 amd 9 territories. You've never made a map either. Plus, you don't know how to use photoshop. But, lets wait and see what the rest of the Conquer Club community thinks about this,

Lanyards, this is a completely different map from the one I showed you in scholl last week. In this map, continents will actualy be defendable. :)

well wright, rev. kyle is already working on a map of the NFL, i know that you are making a map of collage foot ball but it is the same idea, so how about you try a map of the MLB(Major Leage Baseball) or MLS(Major Leage Soocer) .

The map you scanned doesn't have the lines to show the attack routes. Post a image of the map when you get the lines on.

Lanyards, have you ever considered reading the entire post before posting yourself? It'd do you well.

I kinda like the concept and I think a college football map would be more interesting than an NFL map. But here's an idea of how you can create defendable continents:

To limit the boundaries, you simply make it so that any given school can only attack other schools in their own conference either in the same state or adjacent states (so if you deploy on Washington St. you can attack Washington, Oregon and Oregon St.). And they can also attack non-conference rivals in their normal schedules (i.e. Michigan/Notre Dame, Florida/Florida State). That way you don't have to defend a team like UCLA from Rutgers or something like that.

Then you could take the teams that qualify for BCS bowls this year and put them in a legend and say that they can attack each other. This automatically includes conference champions all six of the conferences you're considering. So now the only way to attack between conferences is through the regular season rivalries and the post-season BCS qualifiers.

Here are some more inter-conference rivalries/matchups to consider:

-you already have Florida/Florida St. but you could also have Georgia/Georgia Tech for another SEC/ACC connection
-USC/Notre Dame (Pac 10/Ind.)
-Iowa/Iowa St. (Big 10/Big 12)
-Boston College/Notre Dame (ACC/Ind.)
-Missouri/Ole Miss (Big 12/SEC)
-Louisville/Kentucky (Big East/SEC)

You wouldn't have to use them all, they're just possibilities. The bottom line is in this set-up, the schools only boarder other schools that they actually play in a given season and once you own an entire conference, all you have to do is worry about the BCS and those big non-conference games. Notre Dame would provide a nice link between a few conferences and would probably be worth 1 or 2 armies just for holding it for a round.

You could also update the map every year and use the most current BCS contestants if you wanted.

I hope this helps. I think the only way you can pull this off is if it's very well done. You'd have to do a really good job will all the logos and mascots to draw the sports fans in. You also have to remember that there are a lot of international CC users, so a world cup map might end up being a lot more popular than a football map. But good luck. :)

Here is a good helmet map to get you started.

http://www.zoudave.com/Files/HelmMap.gif

You can do the following for bonus army territories.

ACC = Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia
Big 10 = Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin
Big 12 = Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas
Big East = Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
MWC = California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming
PAC 10 = Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington
SEC = Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee

You can also break it up into smaller groups like:

Big 12 North = Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri (5 bonus armies)
Big 12 South = Oklahoma and Texas (2 bonus armies)
SEC East = Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee
SEC West = Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi

Serveral states have multiple teams in different conferences (like Texas, Iowa, California, Colorado, ect.) so they would be battle states to get conferene bonuses. PAC 10 with only 4 states and 2 state boundires would be worth only 2-3 armies while the Big 10 would be worth like 8.

This should go without saying, but please God include all of the teams in the correct conferences. Otherwise there might be a riot.

I'm stoked to see a College Football map in the works. My caution is that the rivalry triangles, conference foes, etc. might make it too complicated. The non-football fan should at least have a chance to understand how to attack/defend.

Best,
Laci

Well I made a little map to see if we can get this idea going. Its pretty basic but you should be able to get the idea.

Used the 7 biggest conferences and also used footall rivalries.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

well that looks a lot better!

I think there is potential here. I'm a big college football fan. I agree that a college football map is totally different than an nfl map. No need to pause for that reason.

Keep it up. I'll bookmark and come back now and then.

I love this idea and would play it a ton.

I would have LSU connect to Auburn and Arkansas though, instead of Arkansas and Miss St.

IF you are doing a college football map, I'd include all those in division 1. That means te WAC and MAC and the SunBelt also. Though it's a lot of teams, excluding some seems most dissatisfying.

not a good idea. there are 117 division one teams. Waterloo has 102 territories. I really don't think this would be a good idea.
