SS, this is pork's idea, so why don't you let him start the thread? :?

Well he is kind of, um how do you say, a forum n00b.

Just because he doesn't spam every forum with completely worthless posts doesn't make him new. Yeah I am manimal for all you wondering and yeah I hate Sailor just as much as you all do and hell you might see me in some of his games soon. If I only I could use my foe list on manimal still when i read the forums every month I would love to skip his posts they are all the ramblings of a 5 year old moron. Thank you that is all. =)

Don't worry about not having a bunch of good ideas. That is not the point of my request. I just want to see the names of who wants in. You all can just write, bears, cheesecake, or bowling alley. I do not care. And I do not suggest that we waste anytime discussing any of the ideas at this stage. I am only trying to get the thing organized. Who's in and who's not. The most important thing at this stage, is to gather the TEAM. I do not care so much that a person is experienced or not. Just that he or she is gungho to help. Your contribution may be only your comments. The point is that The Map Factory will be all about making maps, not hindering them like what we see in the foundry proper.

As for the evolution idea, please do not get yourself upset. This is not a religious or political association. We will have people with many different views on things. No one will be chided, excluded, or put down for their views. This includes everyone from Christians and atheists, to Dems and Reps. There are numerous threads that are devoted to that pursuit, This is NOT one of them.

So let us leave all that crap at the door. :D

I can't seem to find the usergroup for this... if it hasn't been created, it needs to start soon.

Ustus, sorry you're so against evolution, but that's no reason to quit a group. You don't have to work on that map if you don't want to. Besides, we already have maps about nuclear war, global warming, drug cartels, and prison riots.

You do realize that you're calling someone who has more than 800 posts in the forum a "forum noob". Does that really make sense to you? I don't feel I'm cutting down Porkenbeans at all, by the way...in fact, I feel like I'm standing up for him by saying that he's not in any way a noob on this site. He's got all of those posts, he's currently a major in rank, and he knows his way around the site quite well, obviously. Definitely not a noob.

My first visit to the Foundry forum was only 2 months ago. I think, that is what Sailor was referring to. But, in that short time, I have surmised enough to know that, the foundry is a whole separate click from the main forum. They are a very small group that can be counted on your fingers. With such a small group, the result has been, that they pretty much have the place all to themselves. This fact has had the effect of producing a stale, territorial, and just plain unimaginative bunch. The product that has been coming out of the foundry as of late, is a testament to this fact.

The thing that brought me to this forum was the atrocity that was performed on one of my favorite maps. British Isles was a very nice looking map as it was. I know that things can always be improved upon, and I do not begrudge them for attempting a revamp. But, instead of an improvement, this group of foundry experts has managed to absolutely ruin a wonderful map. Not to mention the fact that they worked on it for a year and a half.

It is time for a little spring cleaning in this place. Throw open the windows and let some fresh air in. If you foundry snobs really want the foundry to become better, Maybe a revamp is in order. Let some new faces and new ideas be seen and heard, without the hindrance and up turned noses that only drives newcomers away.

Rocket,

I AM NOT BAITING YOU I DO NOT WANT TO ARGUE! that's why i haven't posted anywhere that this issue has been brought up. I find the notion of evolution rediculous (something from nothing??) but i DO NOT WANT TO ARGUE ON THIS SITE. I am here to play what is essentially one-up on risk, and have been drawn to the place where the maps that make this site better than risk are made.

My post was intended NOT toward you, but toward whoever is organizing. IF this group is going to make your evolution map, then i am OUT of the group SO THAT i do not have to argue with you.

IF i wanted to argue with someone who wants to deny the existence of God, i have a philosophy teacher who is more than happy to give me my fill of reasons that I'm offensive and unsupported statements that I'm wrong every Monday and Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:15. I am on this site to play a game, not have more of me and someone else both steadfastly holding to our viewpoints because I firmly believe there is a God and He made everything and they firmly believe there is not and everything just happened.

I am posting in this group because Pork thought i would be able to help with the map process in some way and sent me a PM asking me to consider joining this group. I seriously do want to make maps. BUT I WILL HAVE NO PART IN THAT SPECIFIC MAP.

So, Rocket, let's be professional, and agree to disagree, OK? if we get to know each other, and we trust each other, then i'll be willing to discuss those views with you. But this is not the time or place for it.

Professional, no problem. We'll keep this argument out of the thread. Luckily there was a storm and I have been washed back out to sea!

Idea 3
  • Ok I don't know about brains but heres the idea: Big picture of a brain...nice and grusome. Areas of the brain are continents (http://www.twu.edu/dsc/labeled_diagram_human_brain.jpg) Bits of the brain (important nerve endings, blood vessels etc are territories. You can only travel around by blood vessel. The left and right of the brain are only connected by one territory.

Discuss, feedback, improve!

OK fellas, Here's the way that I see it, (in case anyone is interested).
I want to be as clear as I possibly can, so as to avoid any of the inherent pitfalls, that are common to this world, of forum chit chat.

I have personally been a contributor, in the various threads, that constantly do battle over the Religious issue. I have even made friends from the opposite viewpoint. When I was first envisioning The Map Factory, I decided to invite some of those that I disagree with on these matters. Because I believe that we as humans are, in the end, All members of the same family. So, it is my opinion that we need to retain these places, were we all, can come together, as family's do.

Therefor, Only those that truly understand the meaning of the word "tolerance", are invited to our thanksgiving. :!:

The house rules are, you are welcomed to come, but leave all the other crap outside. This family get-together, will NOT be a place to proselytize our views, towards each other. I am reminded of the words of Rodney King, "CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG ?"
If you can not find it in your heart to work with people, that do not share your views, on religion or politics, or whatever, ...Please do not come.

With all that out of the way, I am very exited about some of the ideas. but, upon second thought, lets not post anymore of them, in this open thread. It may just be wiser to wait until we have our private room set up and running.
I have already done a little work in photoshop, with 2 of your ideas. One of them, I believe, is the best thing since Chess. lol.

Until their group is setup, there is nothing wrong from their members posting here, although I'd be worried about a great idea being stolen.

LedZ, unless you are applying to join this group, refrain from posting here.
