Cape Buffalo.

I was sort of thinking that actually. That tawny swoosh in front of the buffalo is the implication of where another might go. However... that may force me to shrink the image down too small to get it all to fit into the map.

I like what you're doing with the lion vs buffalo thing! Better than just having two lions laying there, this will give it a bit more of a battle/war/conflict/"whatever you might call it" feel :)!

I think you should colour the landing spots with the same colours as it's European power and add a flag ontop of it.
Something like this but not on a toothpick ;)!

If you colour a landing spot like its corresponding power, then it would appear to be part of the bonus, and the legend suggests that it is not.

Maybe its my dirty mind playing tricks as well... but it seems like the lion is trying to mount the water buffalo to me O_o

Ya know.... maybe Gillipig stumbled onto something there, perhaps the landing points could be pins with the flags on them.

I didn't "stumble" Baron :x ! I think it would fit a colonization themed map pretty well to have the flags on sticks. That was what they did back then, stuck a flag in the ground on some remote place and claimed it as their own.

Yeah that's ok cause I don't think I'm going to do it. I don't know I'm not very fond of the idea.

I had assumed you meant not pinned by them not being on a toothpick... :-s

Have you tried? I mean, I hate the idea of flutter, but apparently its artistic, and so there it is. I don't think it adds anything to the map, but :shrugs: what do I know... I just think it'll add a period feel and solve any flapping in the wind issues that go along with it.

You know what? I don't think I like this one better...

Having a buffalo being killed over the signature "Bison King"... I'm not sure if I like what that says about me.

If several people think it would look you should at least try it out! You can always remove it if turns out it doesn't look good.

Yeah I'll give it a try when I get home from work. What do you think about the Buffalo?

Just thought I would pop in and say how much (graphically) I like this map. Very clear and a touch of style. Nice work as usual Bison.

Good :)! I like the buffalo/lion image. Although I think you need to rearrange the lioness back feet a bit to make it look like a realistic hunt scenario. Make it look like she's scrambling to stay on it's back.

Well I gave it a try, and it looks ok. I had some trouble making them fit. Most of those territories were pretty small. I also changed the Signature again. It's less violent but I think it fits the map better.

I still think I prefer this method of denoting the landing territories. I think it looks more natural and elegant. There's no awkward over lap, and it circumvents this whole issue:

After having watched your fist version I still think the flags look much better on sticks than if they cover the entire region! If you made them a bit more "alive" I think they would look even better! Also white sticks might be more fitting with the colour scheme of the map.

GIllipig, I have to disagree. These tiny flags on poles will in many cases be obscured by the troop numbers, and my issue with the colouring still stands.

I'm afraid I've got to go with my XML guy on this one. It creates more complications than solutions, it obscures troop numbers and borders, and it makes those territory's relationship to surrounding bonuses unclear. None of these problems exist with the old style, which I think looks better any way.

And here's the new update!

The most notable change is that the signature is bigger and more regal.

-Added another effect to the coastline/water
-cleaned up the coastline's border
-changed the river and lakes color to match the sea
-moved a few territory names
-finally colored Corsica and the... whatever that Spanish island in the Mediterranean's called
-I added that extra dune between Niger and Murzag

on an interesting side note since I started this map a friend of mine has moved to Japan, moved back, and then moved to Arizona. So yeah, I think it's time to wrap this one up.

I think you current landing points are good, but they don't seem to have the same texture as the other land, or at least it doesn't show as strongly...
