1. Use the rivers that fit the gameplay best. That's what I usually do.
2. It's a bit small. You could try other options... Also, you could reduce the opacity of the glow under the text somewhat.

3. How should the bonuses be named? Any suggestions?

1. http://www.raid.lv/laivas/upes/karte_latvijas.gif - these are the biggest rivers in Latvia
2. It is readable but maybe can find little better font.
3. Maybe you can divide bonuses other way in Latvia.. as in Latvia there are 5 regions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administra ... _of_Latvia) and you could divide it by them and name by them how it is in real life.
example:
Riga region - Rīga, Ogre, Limbaži, Tukums
Kurzeme region - Ventspils, Liepāja, Kuldīga, Saldus, Talsi
Vidzeme region - Cēsis, Valmiera, Valka, Madona, Gulbene
Zemgale region - Jelgava, Bauska, Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils
Latgale region - Daugavpils, Krāslava, Rēzekne, Ludza, Balvi

just suggestion if you want it more as in real life.

Let's get that legend filled out and labeled and then we can get this one into gameplay.

Changes:
Re sized the map for less dead space.
Added more impassables (The rest can be talked about in game play)
Labeled the Legend and shifted it around some.
Rivers added in (See above about impassables.)
Moved things around to work in the new dimensions.
Removed the grunge for now until I decide what I want to do with it.

Next Level?

To Do:
New fonts for most everything (Any ideas would be great)
Add in more graphical touches.
Rename the bonus regions. (Any Ideas would be great)
Change the color of West Latvia to something else. Pinkish perhaps.
Army Circles? To add or not to add?

Your image is 9 pixels over the normal limit... You can probably crop a bit from the upper edge to get the map to 800.

does the supersize map sizes not cover that?

* Standard maximum sizes: 630x600 pixels for a small map and 840x800 pixels for a large map.
* SuperSize limits: 1000x800 pixels for a small map, and 1400x1200 pixels for a large map

1400 x 1200?

I know it is only 9 pixels, but I am just wondering.

BTW thanks for pointing that out.

You only get supersize if your map needs it. This map can easily fit in the normal limits.

No idea on the names but they do seem OK, as long as they are not figments of your imagination. ;)
Do not change the colour or it will be to close to East Latvia. It looks fine as it is and melds nicely in with the colour above. It is the big block of red next to it that seems out of place. Try it less bold. And see how that works.
Add the circles. Even if you use the normal 22 pixel army circle png, you will see how it all fits into territs.

For Bonus Region/Zone names, I suggest contacting a couple of the about 50 people on Conquer Club with their Flag currently as either Latvia, Lithuania, or Estonia. I'm sure they have some invaluable input when it comes to names!

Actually, this is 26x200 pixels over the size limit for the small map. But I see no reason as to let this stay as a supersize small for clarity reasons. Do as natty suggested by moving your legend over to the left and then crop it. This should get you down to 630x800. The large will have to be made while in graphics. So you would be able to have the large at 840x1077. You could get it a little smaller by moving the legend up a bit before you crop it.

I'll give the gameplay a look over later, so other than the map size fix, this is looking good. keep up the good work!!

What... no... he's working on the large image, which can be 840x800. He already cropped it down to 800 so it's ok.

Just double checked. The map size is at 656x800, which is over the 630x600 for the small. If this is the large then the small would be at 433x528 approximately. A little small for readability and clarity. So that being said, this map is okay for the supersize small. Bruce just needs to make the large when he gets into graphics.

If the large is 656x800 then the small would be 492x600.

I see no reason this should be a problem as far as being readable. This is no different than any other map as it goes with size. I will post a small mock up ASAP.

Natty is right, I am within the standard sizes... I think fonts can be addressed in graphics?

Well the legibility of the territory names is critical from a game play perspective. Can you post the small map then so we can see how they are? If they are okay, then I'll get with the CA's to see if they have any thoughts and ideas on the gameplay.

I am still hunting out a font, but I am can assure you the small map will be fully readable. I have some fonts in mind..

I like the Rapla font for being readable right now. It works for the small map also.

On that note... What does it take to get out of the drafting area?

rapla and tallinn are both nice and readabble

I'd pick a better font for the small map, its a tad unreadable... but you should know how to handle this properly.

Onward!
