That's kind of a given with playing cards surely ?

The three of clubs for example, will have a three and a club in the corner ...

I think he means - the army counts... I was going to reply something similar earlier... but then realised that might be what he meant!!

So I resized the cards down by 75%... and then "shuffled" them...

When I first looked I thought these 75% sized cards were OK... But I'm not 100% sure... Perhaps I should've kept them at the original size I had them at - and then shuffled...

Also - I now notice that my 8 of Diamonds is completely covered... so that needs changing.

Thoughts?

change the font obvs. and maybe add a kinda carpet texture to the background of the map to make it look more like a poker table?

When I first saw this map, I thought it looked stupid (no offense) but now that you have them all jumbled up, it looks pretty interesting.

My suggestions:

Definitely make the cards larger. I have perfect eyesight and I need to strain my eyes to see some cards.
I agree with t-o-m with the carpet texture and new font.
Throw some chips and dice on the table to make it seem more casino-like.
Your 0's on your 10 cards are squished and its hard to tell they're 10's.
You might want to spread apart the bottom corner. You have a full 9-Ace jumbled together so a lucky start would easily win the game there.

Other than that, it is really starting to look good. =D>

i think the cards are too hard to read that small. i would keep them the way they were, but you can keep them shuffled.
i like the gameplay though :D .

At the moment we're just trying to get layout of the territories (cards) down...

Other graphical concerns (back drops, chips etc) & the legend will come in time.

So we have
a) Cards need to be bigger.
b) You might want to spread apart the bottom corner. You have a full 9-Ace jumbled together so a lucky start would easily win the game there.

In response
a) I agreee.
b) Remember that is only a Straight which is only a bonus of 6... I'd be *more* worried if it were of the same suit... but I will consider moving the 10 elsewhere.

Can anyone else see any bad groupings of cards?

OK - So I reworked the cards back to the original size - and then shuffled them to match my original shuffle as close as possible...

I also moved the 10 of Clubs out a bit - to save on the dangerously close Straight in the bottom right corner.

PS - note I need to remove the "attack up down left right" comment - as that is no longer valid.

Yep - Once we get the layout done pat as far as we can - WM will knock up some uber sweet GFX...

My job is to do the XML - & the design/layout...

So comments on Layout are what we need?

Yeti ... because of the layout it's hard to spot what the tactical patterns are that are forming ... hmmm ... (Not criticising just observing.)

I assume we're looking at a traditional random drop? Or are you still considering some set neutrals?
At this point I find myself thinking that a pure traditional drop would be nice.
