you're going to bring the dots back and everyone is going to say lines widow.

it's a lose/lose situation, but could you try the dots with the opacity lower?

This may be the first time ever, but I agree with rev. I think the lines make it a little classier.

OK it lowered the opacity of the dots. Here is a picture with both styles.
Here is where I am torn between the two styles:
Image

1)I originally made the map based on a real map I had used for thematic inspiration. It had dots. I can no longer find that map. ](*,) I know I did not make it up. I have seen it. I just can't prove it now. That is why I chose the dots. I like them more.

2) Many others have pointed out that old maps use lines instead of dots. I can't argue with that. It seems that most (if not all except for the one I can't find ](*,) ) use lines. So here is my problem.

I want to be as thematically correct as possible and let the foundry pick what is best.

I choose DOTS.....

...BUT....

if enough people would like a poll I would not be against it. Either design suits the theme I was going for and I would rather have the community decide. That is the way the foundry is supposed to work anyway.

So unless there are any objections I think a 3 day poll would be fine by me. But please, do not PM all of your friends and try to get your style made the winner. I would really like this poll to be fair and let the people who really care about it, make the call.

(I reserve the right to choose my own if I feel the poll has been tainted in any way)

OH. And is this the last issue for the map? I mean is it ready for quenching after this mess is sorted out?

maybe I'm being a bit extreme with this thought, but when I look at the dot map I see the map. When I look at the line map, I see the lines.

To me, smaller graphic details like that should be seen when you look at them and blend in when you're looking elsewhere. I just feel like the lines jump out too much.

OK. That's off my chest now.

The trouble with the lines is that they don't suit the rest of the map. There are dots inside the border of every territory and the shading effect on the dead territory has a spray paint/dotted effect. I think the map loses a lot of its charm with the lines.

Is it possible you got your inspiration from a Westeros map WidowMakers? (clickalbe image)

That would be nice for me to say it was Westeros but sorry no. However that is a map that does have dots (or dashes) but not he one I found. I am still looking for it. I hope that I will find it.

I don't think I could have put it any better.

i like the lines a bit more than dots, but im fine with either one. however, like keyogi said. because the inside borders contain dots, its only logical that the rest of the map contain dots as well, for consistency. dots or lines, they both look great.
