[GP] Casual Freestyle Team Game Change

Postby jghost7 on Fri Apr 06, 2012 9:20 pm

Concise description:
This suggestion is for Casual Freestyle Team games...

The idea is once both teams are filled, there is a 24 hour grace period/delay and then a random start within the following 24 hours.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

This allows both teams to be allowed a fair start that is not determined solely by who joins last. It also does not give the 2nd team a direct advantage of determining a start time convenient primarily to themselves and allows for a decent period of time for the 1st team to be aware of the freestyle game being ready.

Are you just messing with me? I know I just made a post with the link that already had this suggestion. Let me go find it... Here you go:

Something like this for freestyle (the suggestion is for fog). viewtopic.php?f=471&t=130255

Or like this for speed and casual (the suggestion is for speed). viewtopic.php?f=535&t=119643

lol. They are very similar.

This needed another go, especially considering that specifically quoted case. As no one else stepped forward to attempt to put it back on the suggestions board, I went ahead and did so.

It needs to be addressed, and so I put forward one potential solution. I feel that if they don't take this seriously this go-round then they should not feel justified in an actual punishment for waiting in order to go first. This fulfills that need and also takes a step to make the game type more fair.

Feel free to add other potential fixes for this issue if you wish. This is just one way. I personally like this one the best so I put it forward.

Either way, the underlying issue needs to be addressed so I hope they will put more effort into meeting us halfway and not rejecting it without at least an explanation as was done on your quoted threads.

Thanks,

J

Well, the wait period for freestyle games is already in submitted. I know that the suggestion was just speed games, but I feel like what might be the best is a wait period of half of the turn time. If it's a 4 minute game, then you get 2 minutes to get in there. If it's a 24 hour game, you have 12 hours. With it being freestyle and all, I'm not sure a 24 hour wait period is necessary. Something shorter would suffice, IMO.

Thats a good idea for freestyle speed. All of the players would already be on and be notified when the game started.

But the casual game is different. I put the 24 hour time in there so that the 1st team has the opportunity to know that they are on timer. Yes it is freestyle, but not speed freestyle so that they would know the game was joined that quickly.

I am cool with other timing options, but this one seems fairest of the ones that I was considering. Honestly, its not that much of a wait, and if there were a blazing need for a quick start then perhaps the speed options would be a better choice for them. With only 12 hrs, the team joining last would still play a large role in controlling the start window.

So, for example in the 12 hr window, team 1 joins with a full team. It could be days later before another team joins. Lets say a coordinated team joins the game and then is able to set a 12 hr clock to their advantage.

In the 24 hour window, I am assured that I will know that the random clock countdown will shortly start and can be ready for it.

Either way is better than the current version though. ;)

Thanks,

J
