[Rules] Check box to block NR from Joining your Game

Postby ad10r3tr0 on Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:38 am

A check box in "Start a game" that will block NR from seeing the game you created

Concise description:
With the recent warning to commanderdave, The rule set is so unclear.
Systematically Farming "New Recruits"

If you are found guilty of New Recruit Farming---that is, systematically joining games with New Recruits. Systematically Farming "New Recruits" may also systematically creating unappealing games that more savvy users avoid because of unpopular or niche game settings, thus luring New Recruits into stumbling into said games. Either of these practices are done in order to "farm" newbies for points, and if you find yourself doing one or both of these practices, you will find yourself escalating on the New Recruit Farming Vacation scale.

What exactly is an unappealing game? The answer is so biased there can never be an exact answer. What I find to be an "attractive" game/settings may be different from what other people see as an "attractive" map/settings.

Specifics/Details:
What I would like to see is a Check box in the "Start a Game" tab to block the game from being seen/joined by NR. We already block Quads/Trips/Maps from NR, so why can't we have an option to block them from joining a certain game?

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
I think this would benefit the site tremendously. When I was cleared for NR farming, I loved the Pelo War, 4 players, no spoils, chained. I didn't care who joined, I just loved the gametype/settings/etc. I didn't want to bump it to 5 players because then it wouldn't be fair, 4 players - everyone gets 2 bases... If I could have prevented NR from joining, I totally would have. This would benefit the site because people who enjoy "unattractive" settings could still play the game/settings they want and not have any NR join and would decrease what we call Systematic Farming.

Like commanderdave, he likes WW2 western front with no spoils/unlimited/fog. With this new option, Commanderdave would be able to still play the settings he loves and not be forced to up the player count to 5, and be free of NR to join games.

I fully support this option.

With the increasing number of C&A cases involving farming, this option would take guesswork out of it. Also, the current interpretations of the 'rules' are allowing for the persecution of regular players putting up games of their choice, thereby putting a limit on their enjoyment of the site.

A simple check box allows them to freely play their games without worry of the C&A lynchmob throwing their names out for farming.

As it stands, it has pretty much been said that one cannot put out 4 and 5 player games for the chance that a NR will join. This is incredibly dumb, and if CC stands by these kinds of ridiculous rulings, then it should at least provide the option for the screening of these kinds of players from joining these games. I understand the thought behind the so-called protecting of these new players, but be real, if you want them to mingle with established players, then do so and let games be games. Don't punish the established players for playing their games. If you do not want them to mingle with established players, then give us the ability to screen NRs. Once they have blooded themselves on their 5 games, then they will be free to join the 5 player game of their choice.

Either way, we should be free to create the games that we want to play without fear of accusations of farming.

Thanks,

J
