Didn't notify me and when the time came to invite them I got the User doesn't exist message... I can see this sort of thing happening more often with this suggestion. In this case the positive seems to outweigh the negatives but It would be nice if there is some log or such that could be accessed with the changes.
This same thing happened to me. If you look at their sign-up post in the thread, it shows the new name though.
That does seem like a pain in the ass for the tournament organizer though, particularly in a very large tournament where they would have to go through a high volume of names to figure out "now who was this guy again?". The burden shouldn't be placed on the other users (in this case the tournament organizer) for the after-effects of the change...that should be felt by either the user themselves or the site.
It seems to me that if a user doesn't notify you of the change, they are effectively eliminating themselves from your tournament unless you, as the tournament organizer, are willing to do the research on their behalf. After all, they may have five or ten tournaments to keep track of, but typically, the tournament organizer (even with only one tourney) is going to have more users than that to have to deal with.
