Score Reset for everybody (at the end of each era)

Postby DiM on Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:04 pm

PLEASE READ THE THREAD BEFORE POSTING AND VOTING

* Suggestion Idea: to give a score reset to everybody

* Specifics: other games have the concept of eras or ages that last 3,6 months or even a year. at the end of the stage a winner is declared trophies are handed and then everybody gets a reset and the fun starts again

so let's say 6 months long ages would be fit for CC because if you're good in 6 months you'll surely be again up to 3000+ points. it really doesn't take that long to get there.

* Why it is needed:
1. for fun. actually many people reach a stage where they plateau. and they simply can't go any higher so they get bored and leave. it's kinda boring to stay forever at 1600 points or at 2400. also this way nobody will complain high ranks don't play low ranks and anybody will have a shot at taking on blitz or comicboy.

2. for "economical reasons". this will completely remove the inflation problem of CC. because at the way things are going we'll have people with 10000 points in 2-3 years and to be honest if a new player joins and sees the leader at 1000 he'll know he will never reach him.

3. money reasons.
a) in the current system a non-premium member can reach conqueror, theoretically, but it will take a long long time because of the 4 games limit. in the new system if you want to be at the top in 6 months you'll have to play many games and to do that you have to get premium.

b) age based games with point resets have a better comeback rate for those that give up at a certain point. let's say i have 1200 points and leave for a year when the leader has 3500 points. when i come back i don't want to see the leader at 5000 because of inflation so i'd be more happier with resets because this way i'll get a fresh clean start.

4. more fun. with this setting prizes can be given at the end of each era, prizes like t-shirts mugs caps or just premium, also there could be several categories like best singles best doubs/trips, most offensive player, etc.

5. update. choice of strategy. at the moment some people have a high rank because they are specialized on triples or doubles or because they play the same map with the same settings over and over again. they are good at what they do but they are too afraid to try something else because they would lose their points. with this era system a very good triples player can try playing singles escalating on the next era just to see if he can do it or just for fun or just because he was bored with triples.
take skyt for example he has just 48 6p standard games played out of 1325 games. and most of those games are from a long time ago. this would be a perfect way for him to try his hand at those games without the fear of losing his highscore since that will stay in the hall of fame forever.

4 people voted no but nobody posted. who's the high ranker that hides in the dark?? :D

People that voted no. Some reasons not mentioned:

At the end of the day there should only ever be so many points in circulation, IF inflation in the real world becomes to high the method of scoring changes for example in old english money 12 shilling would have been loads now you can't afford something at poundland. The method should change eventually, for example the average score will increase it should be about 1000 yet it isn't over enough time it will increase then the number of points new recruits should start with will increase to make it fair. EVENTUALLY it will get out of control I prefer a CC with frequent resets maybe once a year than one with awful inflation

I like the point reset idea. I don't care too much about inflation, more about keeping things fresh.

i voted no because i think it will detract from the competitive nature of the site. this is a bad idea for the same reason no point games are.
had i been wise, i would have seen that her simplicity cost her a fortune

this site is not purely a competitive one - many players including myself play for fun and genuinely our own score means nothing to us - that's not an excuse for bad play its simply a fact. That is why I am a very strong advocate of 0 pts. games, not so I can play the comics or the poos it sso i can play anyone with the game being about the game and not about the pts.

I don't. On the contrary, I think it will force more competitiveness, since if you want to sit on a high score, you'll have to work for it.

I like the idea.

I dislike it, because it may cause an uprise of even more multi's, because the points become even more important... :?

I voted No - because I would've voted a middle of the road option...

I like the idea of 2 tables - however - then each game would have to allocate different levels of points...

i.e. yeti_c loses 20 alltime points and 15 year of the monkey points.

That is the problem i see with this. I think lack is going to reject this....for now anyway. Maybe in the LATE future

I do agree with a score reset every six months, but it still does need to have a second table to keep those greedy point suckers happy. I think it would make the site quite fun.

excellent idea, when i left before i had about 2200 points and was high up. now ive had a bad streak (even if i hadnt) the point inflation has been significant since about 4 months ago and is very off-putting to members who are brand new. also alot of people made 1000 easy points in the olden days by just setting up triples and noobs or ''?'' people joined and never came back hence donating points for no play. that gave the people who joined first huge boosts. i seem to recall blitz being at the top until the new rule that u have to complete 5 games before u can play team games..........

a) I can't see how making points more transitory increase their importance b) bad as it may sound, multis actually generate more income for CC from busted accounts upgrading.

I was speaking on more of a moral ground, then financial... And Cheaters obviously want to be the best ergo more cheating = faster rank climbing...

This is a horrible idea...It means non-prem's have no chance cos of the game limit, and would make people quit...I was once on one of the such games you refer to, I didn't realise it was going to reset, when it did I was really annoyed I lost what I worked hard for and immediatley left...
