Game Series

Postby max is gr8 on Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:12 am

Concise description:
please note this is meant to be a package for premium members only
  • There are a series of X games (X of which are ongoing at any one time) with X players
  • These games are different maps and settings so in theory there could be a series with all players playing every map on every fortification settings
  • The series is displayed as 1 group of games, and shows how many games each player won, each player eliminated (and anything else helpful to TOs)
  • Scores are calculated at the end of each game not at the end of series

Specifics:
  • The auto filling and starting of games
  • Allows tournaments to be more easily created allowing groups of games to be easily organized
  • Requires players to be able to change the team organization (so Player 1 & 3 vs 2 & 4 game 1, Player 1 & 4 versus 2 & 3 for game 2 (etc))

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Good for tournament organizers
  • Easier to play a group of games with an opponent

Hi Max. The idea sounds intriguing but I think it needs a bit more elaboration. Otherwise there are too many variables to be coded.

Alternatively, you could start by suggesting something simpler that could evolve into a complete Game Series system. For example I can think about a brackets (is it called in that way?) game. You could choose:

- Map
- Rules (if you leave any of them unchosen, they are decided at random)
- Number of players per map
- Phases

Let's say for example, if you choose 4 players and 2 phases, it will look for 16 players, and when all of them have signed, it will automatically create 4 games with 4 players. When all 4 games are finished, then the fifth game is created with the winners and automatically starts.

I think OliverFA's adaptation would be far easier to program, and it would be a step closer to my idea. However in my plan you play a series of games (by no means a bracket) but the idea devolves from something very similar

Hi Max,

Then your idea is more like a league? That would not be very difficult to program either.

Mine is more of a league, then TOs aren't out of a Job, ;) , but when I say league it means that there could be one game on siege, one game on Circus Maximus etc.

Some years ago I played a game called "Sensible Soccer". It was not an impressive game, but had a feature to create tournaments.

I will try to remember how this feature was, just in case it helps.

I can tell you (and this is all I can tell you) that something similar to this is being worked on.
