Time block on Wall posts [To Do]

Postby Herakilla on Tue Sep 16, 2008 6:31 am

Concise description:
  • Put a time block on posting wall posts.

Specifics:
  • Once you post on someones wall you cannot post again for until the time runs out. anywhere from 10-30 seconds, i mean do you really need to post a new thing every 20 seconds even? if youre having a chat come to live chat :P

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Currently you can spam walls, this would make that spamming a lot slower and probably reduce it at the least

sounds like a good idea to me ... my wall was spammed about 100 times, though he was consistent with his spam and dribble in chat for a good long while, least this feature may have slowed him down a little.

A bit of an addition to this suggestion could be to allow either check box deleting off your wall (like in your inbox), or "delete all posts by [user]". ... as it's taking me a long time to delete all these posts
(or at least allow mods to delete them all?)

cheers.

Yeah - flood control on walls has to be a good idea...

Either that - or "auto foeing" of someone who hits your wall X times in as many seconds.

I thought that it worked just like the forum, 15 seconds between posts

Read the next quote. It has happened to many people now. multis like manimal have done lots of attacks.

159 times for me ... :(

Which has lead me to suggest remove all Wall posts by specified user in its own thread!

Which is probably why you made the OP I'd guess Herakilla.
Blake please can you get in the habit of reading threads before posting ? It's easy to work out from the two posts immediately before yours that what you thought is incorrect. Which makes your post redundant.

I cant support this. If you have people spamming your walls then ask them nicely, if they dont listen, fill out an eticket.

neither options are viable because your wall can be spammed literally over 100 posts in just a couple minutes tops. easy to do especially when you are offline. or to do with a brand spanking new account (multis do a lot of these attacks, manimal is prolly at the top of the list)

What would be lost from the CC experience by adding a delay?

Asking a multi who has since been busted or a regular user with a grudge to stop spamming I would suggest has a low success rate. (Check my wall. I haven't even tried PMing the guy and asking him to stop.)

As for the eticket possibility ... it's a solution, but surely not the best one? The general ethos for our Walls is that they are self moderated. This suggestion simply improves a user's chances of being able to do that ... at least evening up the playing field with a spammer.

It's a great idea, but why not make the time an hour instead of just 30 seconds?

Does anybody really NEED to post on your wall more than once per hour?

You wouldn't know, because I'm not sure if more than 100 members can actually post on your wall, but conversations and dialogue go on between members via the wall that don't take place over hours.

Okay, let's say that someone, somewhere, somehow actually has this need, which I doubt.

How about allowing each member to set the specific amount of time to block his own wall? Some members could disable time block (or have a time block of zero), others could have 10 or 30 seconds, others could have an hour, two hours, or 24 hours, or however much time works best for their particular needs.

This would take a lot of coding, whereas a universal flood limit takes less coding.

Yes, that happens to be a fact. Here are some more:

Not making this addition at all, neither universal nor personal, would take even less coding.

Not making any additions to the site at all in the future would take even less coding than that.

However, all three of these facts are nitpicky tangents.

may i suggest a modification?
how about once a person covers your wall with over 5 in a minute they are blocked for another 20 minutes
it does the same thing but allows you to post twice or thrice consecutively (which i have done before)
thought?
