Hello Conquerors! During the past few days there have been some changes in the News Team and also for the Foundry section there's something new. First of all I would like to thank the.killing.44 , who left the team after 21 issues. The whole team appreciates the hard work and time you've spent. Thanks mate! Now let's move on to more cheerful news......Give a great welcome to captainwalrus , reelkmcn and dolomite13 , who joined the news team and help me to do the dirty work to give you the latest and best news from the foundry. Welcome guys! Talking about the Foundry, this is a crazy December, full of fantastic news. We have some long awaited maps nearing the beta stage, some new competitions and a mysterious ongoing refurbishment.TABLE OF CONTENTS News Change is coming... Christmas Avatar Competition Another pair of blue shoes A map under the spotlight Maps Development Final Forge Beta & Quenched Foundry Stuff News Change is coming.... The Foundry is being Revamped! …and unfortunately, locked down for a bit. The boys in blue have decided that in order to make the necessary changes smoothly, all of the Foundry will be shut down except the Foundry discussion and also the final forge, which will make sure that the greater CC community does not miss out on getting some heavily anticipated new maps, as well as commenting on beta maps. While no one has been willing to say exactly what the changes entail, they will most likely involve large scale reorganizations of the forum and process. Current Foundry Process - For those of you who don’t know, the foundry process goes something like this: First, an idea is proposed and a rough draft is made. The idea is discussed and the first loose ideas of gameplay and graphics are worked out. Then, once there's a valid interest from the community, the topic is stickied and the CAs call a preliminary review. Once it really starts moving along, it is given a draft stamp (yes, the draft stamp comes after that the map is changed to sticky...) and it is moved into the main foundry. Here it needs to be approved for gameplay then graphics before it can progress. This is the stage that many people think is too slow, and many maps are given up at this point. They few that make it through end up in the final forge, where the xml (the code that makes the maps work) is finalized. Then, it is beta stamped and eventually fully quenched. This whole process has been taking longer and longer, with maps now taking over a year to be completed. Over time, several ideas have been proposed, be it a jury system to advance maps or a final review system to get more input, but none of them have actually made a large difference in the speed and productivity of the foundry. The foundry has been allowed to get slower and slower to the point where it has slowed to a crawl. While some people say this is good, as it weeds out old maps, it has been deemed a time for change. We asked a few foundry-goers what they thought of the changes and what they hoped they would entail:MrBenn wrote: The primary reason for closing the foundry for a couple of weeks, is to give mapmakers an opportunity to take a step back from their projects and come back to them with fresh eyes, while allowing the team enough time to focus on getting the refurbished structure and process right, as well as revising some of the user guides, which are now a bit dated
IndustrialHelix wrote: “I expect it all to be very anti-climatic come the first of the year. Changes I could dream of on the other hand... The foundry breaks from the regular forum and gets a whole new structure.”
qwert wrote: I dont have any hope.
Cairnswk wrote: ...to get the menu navigation in its most efficient format perhaps a java drop menu or something similar, but as long as it's better than having to nevigate to several different levels for forums like it is now.
Christmas Avatar Competition With the holidays coming up, the boys in blue decided that now was as good a time as ever to change their avatars, but they did it foundry style . In true foundry spirit, a competition was held for anyone willing to enter, to decide the new winter avatars of the foundry staff. Good fun was had by all, and many good entries were submitted, all of which you can find here [click] . The winner was decided by the CA’s to be Porkenbeans for his stellar set of avatars. Congratulations to all who participated!turtleboy cairnswk samuelc812 number five Timbo20 fumandomuerte RjBeals alex951 porkenbeans Another pair of blue shoes In slightly older news, RedBaron0 has been made a Cartography Assistant! We asked him a few questions about what it is like to be a mod. Redbaron0 wrote: What is different from a map-making point of view now that you are blue? Not much really, since even though I have the blue shoes making maps myself can't change, I've got to follow all the rules same as everyone else. Seeing the inter-workings is interesting, but that wears off. Only thing that seems to be different is maybe a slightly larger interest in the things I do. (i.e. Map of Japan project)How did you become a CA? The callout thread in Announcements for team CC volunteers. At first I didn't really consider it, but after a little while I figured why not, and the area I figured I could help the most, and needs the most help is the Foundry. I figured the worst they could say is "NO," and it wouldn't hurt me if they did, so I didn't see any point in NOT sending the application in. The rest is history. What are your responsibilities as a CA? For the moment, other than general moderation of the Foundry Forums, they are undefined. When the Foundry rolls out brand spanking new with the new year, I will be helping with the graphical aspects of the map making process. More details on those specifics will be forthcoming with the reopening of the Foundry, so that's all I can let you know now.
A map under the spotlight Classic Revamp In case you haven't heard there is a new Classic map in the works. What is the Classic map you ask? Put simply, it is the map from which all the basic game-play of Conquer Club is derived. The Classic Revamp map started out as World Cities which is similar to the classic map but different enough to stand on its own. We asked sully800 , the creator of World Cities, how it came to be that the map changed course and became a revamp for Classic and what challenges he faced transitioning his map to the Classic format. Here is what he said:sully800 wrote: I began the World Cities map because I felt this site was lacking a map of the world in the medium size range after the switch to Classic Shapes. Doodle earth and World 2.1 are great, popular maps, but a medium traditional world map was missing. Once the thread started, I found that a lot of people liked the idea of a world map based on important cities. At that time I did not plan on revamping Classic Shapes (though it was a secret hope) but eventually I was given the news that this map would indeed be the revamp that everyone wanted. Along with that announcement came the fact that we would be switching the map to the traditional layout with the Americas on the left. This was a difficult transition because I had just begun to finalize the graphics from World Cities and I was very happy with the city selection at that moment. I feel like we lost some good things from the original layout, but the current arrangement is most familiar to everyone so after a few new editions the current format really grew on me. Beyond that, I'm preparing for a big onslaught of revolution when the map hits Beta (since revamps are often met with a few voices of very strong resistance) but hopefully this map will please most of the Conquer Club community.
Whatever your thoughts on a new Classic map, it is safe to say that there would not be a Conquer Club without it, and sully800's new map is a perfect marriage of the game-play that started it all with refreshing new graphics that do justice to this classic game.Maps Development To see the full sized preview of the following maps just click on the title of the map, to visit the map development thread Final Forge ANTARCTICA Mapmaker: e_i_pi Description: Retrace the footsteps of great explorers, and plant your flag claiming the land. Clash of the Mega Clans By Georgerx7di (TSM) Co-written by Incandenza (THOTA) In a year that's seen a record number of clan challenges, the last great challenge of the year could become its most memorable, a heavyweight battle for the ages, eighty games pitting the top-ranked Horsemen of the Apocalypse (THOTA ) against the third-ranked Spanking Monkeys (TSM ). Popular interest in this challenge has been high, thanks to the stature of the clans and the personalities involved, and the public challenge thread reached twelve pages before the first game was created. THOTA has been the top-ranked clan on CC during the ladder era and remains undefeated with a 7-0 record in challenges including 3 wins against top 10 clans. Fresh off a hard-fought 32-28 victory over the second-ranked Legends of War (LoW) and the overall victory in the first season of the Clan League, THOTA faces perhaps its toughest challenge yet. Although the current ladder ranks TSM third behind LoW, the Monkis have earned their title bout with a 3-0 record, all against top ten clans. Many believe that TSM should be ranked 2nd after impressive 34-26 victory over second rank LoW in 2008. The Monkis' stated goal is to become the top-ranked clan on CC, and they're finally going to get their shot. The clans kicked off the war a week early with a 2 game set, one home doubles game per clan, featuring four players that would appear on any knowledgeable CCer's list of the top 10 of all time: Former conqueror Scott-Land , and Seulessliathan for the Monkis, and former conqueror Blitzaholic (revered by many as the games best player), and Big Whiskey representing THOTA. The Monkis were opposed on their home map of Battle of Actium by artur1 and GloriousL , while clapper011 and Tisha battled the Horsemen on Conquerman. While THOTA got off to a hot start, sweeping the kick-off pair and taking a 2-0 lead, that momentum has not carried into the first set of games. The Monkis reeled off three straight wins to go ahead 3-2, and the clans have since spent the last weeks exchanging the lead thanks to tightly-contested games between some of the best teams on CC. As of this writing, the monki's are up 17-14 including some second round games that ended fast; with neither clan taking more than a two-game advantage up to this point. Most observers predict a very close first round, likely a 10-10 tie for the first round set, and a similar split looks possible for second round games; plus or minus a game or two. The second round of games, twenty in all, have been posted and filled in advance of the upcoming holiday season and its attendant schedule disruptions. The challenge will resume after the New Year, with two final sets of twenty games apiece. Interest in this challenge runs high throughout cc, here are some comments by those watching from the stands:lord voldemort wrote: About time...i will be following intently
pimphawks70 wrote: This might be the most epic battle in CC history... Gl to both clans
Bruceswar wrote: Been waiting for this one... gl to both sides... About time
Chuuuuck wrote: I am excited to watch this one unfold. Good luck to both clans....
The excitement appears even greater within the two clans that are playing in the challenge. When asked for comment, laddida (TSM) said: laddida wrote: this is the clanwar ive been wanting since joining tsm. Ive seen our potential grow so much since i been here. At one point a war vs thota was only a dream. And now we actually have a potential shot to givem hell. IM a proud monki!
While Incandenza (THOTA) said this in the second post of the clan challenge thread: Incandenza wrote: Oh, yeah, bitches, it's on.
It should be a memorable challenge. All games can be found in the clan challenge thread: Board index ‹ General ‹ Clans ‹ Active Challenges - THOTA vs. TSM or by clicking this link: viewtopic.php?f=441&t=100282 [/quote]

Welcome to the 22nd edition of the CC Newsletter and this first edition of the Freestyle News section, headed by me, nagerous . I would like to proudly welcome ARMY of GOD and Minister Masket who have stepped up to join the team. In future editions ARMY of GOD is going to be providing a top 5 topics each fortnight and Minister Masket will be discussing various Plugins and Addons so stay tuned for that next fortnight. Missing your tale from the elf? Fear not... as he is just taking a break and will be back with a new story in the next edition! In this edition we have an entertaining interview with Snorri1234 though be warned as it contains strong language! The freestyle team are also still recruiting so if you are interested in joining, drop either me or samuelc812 a PM.Interview with Snorri1234 Q. Sup Boi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sup. Q. What is your first act as winner of the CC general election? Free OWEN! Q. What is your overall aim? I’d like to be sort of an intermediary between the mods and the customers. There is often heated discussion about policies and actions, and that usually gets even more heated because the mods are too busy with managing the site/hunting multis/eating bananas. I think it would be usefull if someone not part of the modcrew would be able to tell the customers why certain actions were taken who does not have other obligations and no real loyality to the mods. (Anyone part of a group will always try to defend actions and opinions of that group to others even when they don’t agree with them.) I’ll also settle for a cut in the site’s profits. Q. What makes you tingle in that special place? Sex. Q. Is Calvin coming back? Pretty satisfied with my current av. Steven Seagal is awesome. Q. What was your last score in Calvinball? Two wickets, 7 cool-fouls, caught a bonus-box and made three touchdowns. Q. What is this Calvin thing about for those idiots out there that don't understand including me? Go read Calvin & Hobbes. Do it now. I don’t care whether you are having sex or playing CC, go out and buy some Calvin & Hobbes books. Q. Do you prefer your pancakes savoury or sweet with apple, cinnamon and lashings of whipped cream ? sweet with apple, cinnamon and whipped cream. (Also, raisins, hot cherries and way too much sugar. Q. When you play do you channel Coltrane or Lennon? Coltrane. Q. With less than 100 total games completed, and a tenure of over 2 years here on CC, are you even a fan of "Risk based" games? I am. I just like taking my time and playing one or two games at a time. Q. Do you enjoy only lurking through the forums or is this account a proxy multi for someone else? Any rumours about me being a multi of Neoteny are grossly exaggerated. Q. Why does your name always remind me of the really, really fat Pokemon, "Snorlax"? Because you are painfully unaware of Warhammer. (Also because you are fat.) Q. Why are you even worthy of being interviewed? To get ahead in life you must sometimes sacrifice your dignity. But I don’t regret sleeping with Nagerous. Q. How awesome does it make you feel to know that you are more highly regarded on this site than everyone who has not yet been interviewed? Relatively awesome. Q. What has been your most memorable gift ever given? Why? A locket of gold from my mother. Q. Would a Premium Membership to CC warrant itself as a good gift in your mind? Depends. CurmudgeonX gave it to me once to get me out of a ban and I really loved him for it but premium also gives you the ability to waste your days playing thousands of games. Q. Jungle Book or Lion King? Jungle book. Q. Which social usergroup is the most succesful and flourishing you've ever participated in? Wow that’s actually a difficult question. The Godless Heathens have probably been the most steady in keeping at least minimal conversation going. The only real competition would be the Fireside tavern, but I wasn’t strictly admitted to that group and they pretty much died out. Q. 101 Dalmations or Lady & the Tramp? 101 Dalmations. Q. Who do you believe will be permanently banned from the forums next? I honestly don’t know. Targetman? Q. Why are Hadouken! so good? Never heard of them. Q. Team Jacob or Team Edward? To be honest I gotta respect someone who signs up for a movie without reading the script just to hit on his co-star. It reminds me of Samuel L. (motherfucking) Jackson who signed up for Snakes on a Plane because he liked the title. That's it. He didn't bother reading the script or even asking what the thing was about, he just thought "hey this title is funny let me sign up". Then again Samuel L. (motherfucking) Jackson does the craziest shit. Motherfucker loves golf. Like really fucking love. Dude won't act without being promised to get enough golf-days between acting-days. Q. I have a question abou..ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD? Well I think that’s a perf…..ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD! Q. Will your answer to this question be in the negative? Yes. Q. If you could change the name of the off topic forum what name would you choose? 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Q. Do you have any diseases or physical traits that hinder you in any way? *obligatory “really big penis”joke. Q. What are your favourite parts of your body and personality? What are your least favorites? I can’t really say i consider anything about my body as my favourite. I’m not a fag. As for my personality, I’m laidback and friendly. I am also incredibly lazy. Q. Do you have any deeply disturbing memories? None. This is probably why I’m not a writer. Writers alwasy have unhappy childhoods and anecdotes about how shitty their life was, but I don’t. It sucks. Q. What is the purpose/meaning of your life? Get money, get paid. Nah, I don’t have a purpose or meaning. I’m gonna enjoy the ride because not enjoying it is pointless. Q. What is your favourite song? Band? Singer/songwriter? Moment of truth by Gangstarr. And yeah pretty much Gangstarr is one of the greatest rappers of all time. For bands i like quite a lot but none in particular, though I did love Oasis for a long time. Q. Have you ever had thoughts about being a woman? Yes, all the fucking time. Having tits sounds awesome. Q. What is your favourite fast food? Shoarma. Q. Favourite item? The flying-hat from Super Mario Bros Wii. That shit gives you the ability to fucking skip over large parts of a level! Q. What is your favourite movie? Genre? Director? Actor? Under Siege. Comedy. Steven Seagal. Steven Seagal. Q. What is your favourite TV show? Writer? Actor? How am I supposed to answer this? A bit of Fry and Laurie, Blackadder, Spaced, Futurama are all favourites. But I’d say that any show featuring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie is by definition fucking awesome. Q. What is your favourite book? Writer? Small Gods by Terry Pratchett. (All other books are good too, but that one is awesome for a stand-alone.) Q. If you have one, who is/was your favourite American president? Teddy Roosevelt. Osama Bin Laden would’ve been caught within two weeks if Ted had been president. Q. What is your favourite country? my own. After that I quite like the UK. Q. What is your favourite war of all time? The Trojan War. Q. Do you think that you enjoy answering questions more, less, or about as much as Juan_Bottom? MORE! Juan does not know what questions are. Q. What does your mod application say? Not sure, I think it featured some stuff about me being banned repeatedly and pushing the mods should not keep me from being a mod. In fact, it should totally make me top of the list because I know what it feels like and also I have incriminating pictures of you at some brothel, give me a position. Q. Who is the most sexy CC mod? MeDeFe. Q. What time is it at the North pole? f*ck if I know. Q. What would you do if you saw an endangered animal eating an endangered plant ? Eat them both. Q. If you had to be in group isolation for a decade, and you could only choose members of Conquer Club, what handful of people would you choose and why? The problem is here that I want to choose people I like, but I know that I also like debating stuff and being in disagreement with people over stuff is what keeps me sane. Maybe a mix. Neoteny, Nagerous, Juan, other peeps from GH and HD and also thegreekdog and john9blue, anyone who has my rare bloodtype so I got a donor in the case of an accident, a bunch of hot chicks here and one person we can all hate on and make fun off. Q. If you could choose, what would be your last words? “Don’t worry, what could possibly go wrong?” Q. Heavy Dancers usergroup, on a scale of 1 to AWESOME, how awesome are they? Over 9000. Q. Thanks for the time Snorri1234 I expect a compensation.
