2009 Year In Review Part 2 by amazzony show
In the previous issue I put together "2009 Year In Review" which highlighted the changes that took place in the tournament world in the past year. This time I've decided to ask different players and organizers what they remember most from 2009 and how they look back on it. Most messages that I got back were in a positive note and, though people weren't afraid to bring out negative things (thank you for your honesty!), the overall feelings were optimistic and hoping the tournament forums keep up their high level of performance. "The year 2009 was an explosion on CC as far as tourneys are concerned. 2009 was CC's best year for tourneys and the popularity seems to keep growing," says Blitzaholic , who thinks that bringing in tournament medals was important for the growth of tournament forums. Statistics support it because after tournament medals were introduced, the amount of tournaments created went up enormously. "I don't know if it is just me, but there are more and more "quick for a medal" tournaments", says reptile , but n00blet feels that "a lot of 'tournament-bites' have popped up since the medal came out for them, but that seems, from what I can tell, to have mostly died out as people have realized how much work they need to put into creating a successful tournament." denominator mentions that the rate that tournaments are coming out is awesome. "Plus, there's a wide variety of types running at any one time. I think 2009 was better just from the sheer volume of tournaments that ran." Though he adds that in his opinion some rules are abused. For example a quad tournaments with only 16 players means that only 4 teams are competing for the tournament win. He thinks the rules need to be changed to having 16 entrants, not 16 players. MarVal also feels that the minimum requirements are not good enough: "So the winner will only play 2 games (he means 16-player 2 round tournaments). Or am I wrong? IMO you can't call this a tournament, it must have at least more rounds in and/or more maps to play on it, before it can be called a tournament." DBandit70 also would like to see at least the 1 v 1 tournaments extended to a minimum of 32 players, doubles to 16 teams, and so forth.reptile says that "tournaments as a whole are moving in the right direction. Overall I think we have moved more forward than backward in tournaments. More and more people are getting excited about tourneys and creating their own with their own twists, this is a major plus. Also, the graphics that some of the tournament creators are doing now just makes the tournament that much more fun." Several other people agreed that creative themes are the ones that bring color and that there should be more of them. "More interesting and innovative tournament ideas, not necessarily "bigger" and more complicated though," Lindax said.barterer2002 thinks that 2009 was a great year for tournaments. There was a wider variety but also there was a much better effort in picking up tournaments that would have been abandoned in the past. This is particularly the result of the efforts of jpcloet and Lindax , who have worked hard behind the scenes to find TOs to rescue tournaments. jpcloet : "The TO [Tournament Organizers] [user]group members responded to my challenge around abandoned tournaments. The TD's took it to another level with Night Strike writing in a more specific process for rescuing a tournament in the Handbook and Lindax leveraging the TO group and making them aware of which tournaments are up for rescue." freakns : "I think tournaments are the best place for meeting new people and coming to know the CC world. As 2009 newcomer, I can say that tournaments were not only fun for me to play, but also gave me a chance to come to know new people, get into a clan, and feel like I belong to CC community. MarVal compliments TDs who make the Tournament Section a very good oiled and solid part of CC. keiths31 says that it is nice to see new faces around the forum. jpcloet finds the Tournaments area one of the most positive areas on the site. What else is there to say? Perhaps only - come, visit us!This article is reflecting the views of different people so please take it like that - summary of opinions of players and organizers. Thanks to everybody who helped me put together this article, including those whose quotes didn't get into the newsletter!
NFL Interviews by vodean show
This is vodean out here in NFL nation, where over the past few weeks, several NFL tournaments have advanced to their final regular-season weeks. At the risk of having to skip school and having to make a fool of myself, I am here, PMing some of the managers to see if I could get an interview. MTIceman41 , the offensive coach for the Indianapolis Colts, who finished first overall in the regular season of MG’s “1vs1 to Dubs NFL Tournament” , said I would say that overall my dice/drops for the games were average...being the only player to win all 10 games, I do feel confident in the playoffs...and getting home-field advantage is a plus.
Pixar is a great teammate and together we are a formidable team...if we continue to get average dice/drops, I like our chances throughout the playoffs
In another tournament, flexmaster33 ’s 2009 NFL Singles , the Houston Texans, coached by sportsgod24 , was the first to reach the Superbowl. He said, Well first of all, I would like to say that the Cowboys are my team (from Fort Worth) but ended up [coaching] the Texans (second favorite). I went 10-0 on my home map counting regular season and playoffs, which the the main reason I made it to the Super Bowl. I really didn't expect that since I have a basic map with USA, but I guess I know it a little better than everyone else. I haven't had any cold streaks in the tourny with dice and hope it wont start now. Can't wait to start the Super Bowl and win it for H-Town. This tournament has been really awesome, props to flexmaster for the running of it.
The tournament has since been won by dowian2 . As a final look into CC’s NFL tournaments, we have Superkeener (a writer himself) here to talk to us. On his tournament, he said The season has been going well. The only issue that has came up is 3 people have quit, well 2 quit, and 1 is on a site ban. But overall it has been a great tournament. The playoff race is starting to heat up and each game is becoming more crucial. There are many close division races such as in the AFC East with
pearljamrox2 &
jcstriker all tied up in the standings. Also in the NFC East with
nippersean &
HighlanderAttack . This is the 2nd NFL tournament I have run, and there are some returning people:
shoop76 ,
dshedd ,
Cubs24 ,
HighlanderAttack , and
acores2005 . Three of which made the playoffs in my 1st NFL tournament.
As far as a drug problem, I know that there have been some rumors of drugs being passed among players. These are not true. Also, the dice are not fixed.
Note: with any reference to players and conditions, drops and dice can be used interchangeably.
In Please by superkeener show
I wake up, get my coffee ready, light a cigarette, and login to Conquer Club. I do this all without getting my clothes on. After logging in I find that I have 8 new messages in my Inbox; I feel so loved. I eagerly open my Inbox to find that I have been invited to 8 games, 8 tournament games. No longer do I feel loved, but rather a slight feeling of hysteria. I feel obligated to win the tournament and anything short of total victory will result in the end of all good things. Great, one of the matches has me up against HighlanderAttack , this should be a breeze. I was wrong. I am always wrong when it comes to beating HighlanderAttack . I beat him once, the first time we played him in the tournament Greazzzzmaster's Think Fast Tournament (Game 5355393 ) since then it has been a brutal beating of epic proportions (9 losses in a row). This time, however, will be different. I will never lose to this guy again, his name is HighlanderAttack for Christ's sake. However, after the completion of our latest game, I have come to the realization that his name encompasses everything that a name like HighlanderAttack should contain. The new game is in the tournament NBA Season 2009-10 (Game 6301221 ) on Arms Race!. Yes, this time should have been different....... This time was no different. HA destroyed me. This could be because I suck, or because HighlanderAttack is a tournament guru that makes you hate yourself and your Conquer Club abilities. You may have felt the feeling of HA's ferocious annihilation. He is one of the tournament legends on Conquer Club, and after looking through some of his stats, rightfully so. According to Map Rank, HA's overall win percentage in tournament games is 52% (58% in 1v1 games), with a 70% tournament winning percentage on Arms Race!. However, HA has failed to win a game in 1v1 on either the Poison Rome or Vancouver maps, and with only 1 win of 8 attempts on the Land and Sea map. If you have never met HighlanderAttack in a tournament, then you obviously have not played enough tournaments. He is currently sitting at 7295 tournament games, which is around 56% of his total games completed. If we all come together and stand up against this tournament tyrant we can overthrow him, and give the tournaments back to the people! HighlanderAttack : take this as a warning, we know your weaknesses, your days of winning tournaments are over!

First Nations of North America quenched Tisha's First Nations of North America -map has been quenched. The map was in beta-testing phase for almost 4 months, so I believe many will agree it was about time. During it's beta-period the map has become one of the most popular maps among the recently produced maps. Large maps seem to be "in" right now, but FNNA is not just a large map, it's a large map with well balanced and versatile gameplay. The map adapts itself to various game types, from assassins to quads, escalating, nuclear... it is no wonder the map became an instant hit among the players, and Tisha's shiny new mapmaking medal is well deserved. Congrats Tisha! The Hive and Chicago available for beta-testing While one map moves out of the forge fire, two more maps move in. WidowMakers and Killerpit4e have been working on The Hive map for quite some time, and it has finally been pushed into beta-testing. Only one word can adequately describe The Hive: Humongous. With a whopping 350 territories, the map is a record-breaking achievement that will surely make the next Battle Royales interesting... The other map is Scott-land's Chicago map. The windy city is finally represented in Conquer Club! While the map offers a relatively simple - although not quite standard - gameplay, it has a well tought out structure that should play well as team games, although singles games will without a doubt be fun on this map, as well. Both maps are now available for playing, under the beta-disclaimer: rules may change during the game, but personally I've never let that stop me from enjoying the latest offerings of the Foundry. How else could the gameplay be perfected? A big hand to Widowmakers, Killerpit4e and Scott-land for adding another two top quality maps in the CC roster!
Foundry Special - Part 1:The Melting Pot by natty_dread show
Introduction Not everyone knows how the Foundry works. The average player probably only notices the very existence of the Foundry when a new map comes out, if then... There are also those who are interested in making maps, but feel a bit overwhelmed at the concept - where to start? This article series will show you the secrets of mapmaking. How an idea of a map turns into a graphical masterpiece with awesome gameplay. And the best part of it is: anyone can do it! All you need is some experience with graphics software - or lacking that, the willingness to learn - an idea of a map, lots of free time - and good nerves. Beginning of a map The life of a CC map begins at the first part of the Foundry sequence: The Melting Pot . This is a subforum of the Foundry, moderated by MrBenn , where anyone (yes - even you) can post their ideas of new maps. A map begins when someone posts such an idea, and others comment on that idea, showing their (dis)agreement and support. Who are these others then? They are regular CC members, like you and me, who take an active interest in mapmaking. Anyone can post in the Foundry, and anyone can try to become a mapmaker. This is the beautiful part of the Foundry: it is completely based on the input of CC members. Don't like the maps in CC? Make your own! Be creative!Melting Pot As some of you know, the Foundry process was remodeled during the holiday seasons. Thus it'd be hard to find an example map for this article since no map has so far gone through this new process. Before the Foundry revamp, we had two forums instead of the Melting pot: Map ideas & Suggestions and Drafting room. The ideas were posted to Map ideas and when a "working draft" was developed, it was moved on to the Drafting room. The new system brings the ideas and the drafts all together in one huge Melting pot, hence the name. Under the old system, it would sometimes take a long time for a map to advance from the drafting room. Lots of complaints were made about maps not moving anywhere in the foundry. We're all hoping the new system will work more efficiently.MrBenn, Foundry Moderator in charge of the Melting Pot wrote: For a while there was a blurry line dividing map ideas and map drafts; this confusing separation caused headaches for mapmakers and the foundry mods alike. The idea of the new structure is to provide a feeding ground for ideas in the melting pot, and for the best ideas (or ones most likely to succeed) to be lifted into proper development. The new structure has been designed to help people pay attention to the elements required to help a map develop through the foundry, and to make it easier to shepherd maps through the process. Hopefully it will also help to attract commentators to specific areas where they feel able to make a valuable contribution. The introduction of the design brief is probably the most significant change, and heralds a shift in the approach to map creation. With the ever-increasing number of maps in play, the design brief process allows the foundry to be more selective about the maps that start production in the gameplay workshop, and will help new mapmakers to put more thought into the map concept before putting too much effort into something that may not go anywhere - there are over 1,000 projects in the recycling bin that represent wasted effort! The focus at the idea stage should involve more conceptual and thematic thought, and will also help to open the foundry process to non-artists. The main purpose of the design brief is to ensure that foundry contributions can be spent where they're most likely to be appreciated, and to try and alleviate commentator burnout.
Map development After an idea is posted and receives enough support, the mapmaker will then create a first draft, which is usually a very rough drawing that shows how the gameplay of the map works: where the regions are, how they connect, how they are named, bonus areas, bonuses, etc. When a map is deemed sufficiently developed, the maker is then required to submit a Design Brief for the Cartography team to review. If the map passes this inspection, it is then moved on to the next forum, Gameplay Workshop , where the playability of the map will be honed to perfection. It is also possible for those who have no time or interest in mapmaking to post their ideas and have another mapmaker pick up the project, and some maps have been made by a collaboration of several people: one with an idea of gameplay, another with the required skills in graphics. So as you can see, anyone can participate in the process of creating a new map, even if they don't possess any graphical skills. As long as your idea is solid, it is bound to attract the attention of a graphical artist... The Foundry is full of very talented people, which is why CC very likely has the best maps of all world domination gaming sites.Recycling Bin Of course, many of the maps never make it to play. There are several reasons this may happen, but lack of support (a map needs some amount of popularity to be considered worthwhile) is probably the number one cause. Maps that stall in development end up in the recycling bin (another Foundry subforum) where future mapmakers may use it to find inspiration for their own projects... Being "tossed in the bin" is not a death sentence however, many maps have been tossed and resurrected several times during their lifespan.Support your CC Mapmakers! I'd like to bring to your attention, that the best way to help mapmakers is to comment on their maps. There are loads of great maps in the Foundry right now, and feedback is what mapmakers need most. I'd like to encourage everyone to take a stroll in the Foundry and see if you find any interesting looking maps. And if you do, give them your support and feedback! That's it for this article. In the next issue, we will be focusing on the next part of the Foundry process: The Gameplay Workshop . Stay tuned for the next issue!
Germany Competition by captainwalrus show
With the first round of voting done, the two finalists have been selected. Maps F and I were the two most popular maps in the first round of voting, and so a runoff is being held between just those two. Let's take a closer look at each of them, shall we? Map F:Click image to enlarge. Map F is stunningly done, using a very clear theme which is consistent throughout the whole map. A heavy industrial texture is put over the whole map which, when combined with the dark colors of Germany's flag, creates a dark heavy feeling which makes conquering Germany all the more intense. What is all the more impressive is what the maker did to the areas of the map used for the title and legends. While other mapmakers would separate elements like the minimap by mere lines, the maker of map F jumped on the opportunity that these non-map elements provided, using wonderfully constructed vine patterns to add that much more flavor. What is perhaps even more remarkable about map F is the lack of things to criticize. Very little is out of line; from the font to the various bevels and highlights used, nothing is out of place. A very fine map indeed! Now, Map I:Click image to enlarge. Another beautiful work of art, map I shows Germany from a very different angle. Using an old paper style, along with a grungy texture, the maker of map I shows modern day Germany with a olden day mapmaking style. The mapmaker put na lot of attention into the details, and it really paid off, making a very very realistic looking map. From the way the "paper" still has fold marks, to the different parts where some of the color has been worn away, the whole map looks strikingly realistic. There is so much to like about this map: the mountains are nicely drawn, the colors are rich and deep, yet still appears to have faded over time, the territory borders are clean and clear, and most importantly, there is very little wrong with it. An amazing map, most certainly. With 238 votes cast, map I is in the lead with 63% of the votes.
History 101 - WWII Pearl Harbor by dolomite13 show
History 101 is a new article series where we delve into the history behind some of the maps of Conquer Club and help to bring you the story that inspired the map. In our first installment of History 101 we take a look at the battle that inspired the WWII Pearl Harbor map by cairnswk . Sunday December 7, 1941 06:05 The six Japanese carriers launched a first wave of 183 planes composed mainly of dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters. 07:51 The Japanese hit American ships and military installations at . The first wave attacked military airfields of Ford Island. 08:30 A second wave of 170 Japanese planes, mostly torpedo bombers, attacked the fleet anchored in Pearl Harbor. The battleship Arizona was hit with an armor piercing bomb which penetrated the forward ammunition compartment, blowing the ship apart and sinking it within seconds. Overall, nine ships of the U.S. fleet were sunk and 21 ships were severely damaged. Three of the 21 would be irreparable. The overall death toll reached 2,350, including 68 civilians, and 1,178 injured. Of the military personnel lost at Pearl Harbor, 1,177 were from Arizona. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT - 32nd President of the United States wrote: Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
What led up to that Day in Infamy? September 1940. The U.S. placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and aviation fuel to Japan, due to Japan's takeover of northern French Indochina. Not long after the U.S., Britain, and the Netherlands froze Japanese assets. This prevented Japan from buying oil, which would, in time, cripple its army and make its navy and air force completely useless. Toward the end of 1941. With the Soviets seemingly on the verge of defeat by the Axis powers, Japan seized the opportunity to try to take the oil resources of Southeast Asia. The U.S. demanded that Japan withdraw from China and Indochina. After becoming Japan's premier in mid-October, General Tojo Hideki asked the Japanese military to devise a war plan. They proposed to sweep into Burma, Malaya, the East Indies, and the Philippines, in addition to establishing a defensive perimeter in the central and southwest Pacific. They expected the U.S. to declare war but not to be willing to fight long or hard enough to win. Their greatest concern was that the U.S. Pacific Fleet, based in Pearl Harbor could foil their plans. As insurance, the Japanese navy undertook to cripple the Pacific Fleet by a surprise air attack. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT - 32nd President of the United States wrote: No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory.
The Warnings The U.S. had broken the Japanese diplomatic code and knew an attack was imminent. A warning had been sent from Washington, but it arrived too late. Early warning radar was new technology. Japanese planes were spotted by radar before the attack, but they were assumed to be a flight of American B-17s due in from the West Coast. Clan War News By Georgerx7di (TSM) show
O&H Defeats LOW! The Outlaws and Highwaymen, a relatively unknown clan, has defeated Legends of War in a 36 game clan war. Legends of War (LOW) has long been regarded as one of the top clans on CC. They had a 5-2 record before their war with O&H, but that doesn’t say it all. Their 2 losses came to THOTA and TSM, arguably the number 1 and 2 clans on CC, respectively. Low’s wins are very impressive. It’s not just who they beat, but the margins by which they beat them also. Low beat a very good Generation 1 28-12. G1 is the same clan that recently had a 15-15 tie with the Knight of the Round Table. Low crushed Project Enigma 25-5, and most recently beat a previously undefeated Empire, by a score of 36-24. O&H’s resume looks quite poultry and ordinary compared to Low. Before this war O&H had a 2-2 record. Their wins came against mythology and Eternal Empire (respectable clans) and their losses were to Black Sheep Squadron (a top ranked clan) and Divine Domination a relatively unknown clan until recently. No one will take the Outlaw’s lightly anymore however. After the first 2 rounds, O&H was up 16-8 in a 36 game challenge. Only 2 more games were needed for a tie, 3 to seal the win. Well they didn’t just sail by the last 3 wins; the Outlaws won the next five games and they now have a 21-8 lead, from which LOW cannot come back. Who might have predicted this being the outcome? Well, there is one. They call him the Nostradamus of clan war predictions. Blitzaholic wrote: jpcloet wrote: To O&H, I see the bar being set similar to G1 who lost 28-12. Simply stated for point of reference.
hmmmm, I don't think so JP. LoW is good but have dropped a little from their split up, and O+H is better than what some may have you think.
You and a lot on CC may be surprised here, I will go out on a limb and say LoW wins 20 to 16 over O+H, with O+H giving them a strong challenge, maybe even 19-17 in favor of O&H. It will be close.
Even Blitz didn’t predict such a blowout though. I asked LOW for comments and after conferring with clan mates, this is the response that Reptile sent me:Reptile wrote: 1. How did they get such a lead over you guys? Dice? You guys have some players who are away?
Well, when we took the challenge we knew we were in for a battle. Blitz put it best when he said that O&H is better than some may think. They are a very respectable clan that has not played in many challenges yet, but have a bright future. I think the thing that have helped them the most is the addition of so many "random" maps: the agreement was that 28 of the 36 maps would be random. We consider ourselves pretty versatile, but I guess the randomness fell on the wrong maps
. It will be a hard challenge to come back and win—we need to win 10 of the final 12 just to tie—but you can bet that it will be a hard fought battle all the way till the end.
2. Any comments on their players or their play?
Danryan has done a good job heading this up for O&H, I believe he organized most of it himself, but also all their players have made very few mistakes. I will admit a lot of the games came down to a couple good turns deciding the outcome of the game, however I do not want to take any credit away from O&H as they have played very strong in each of the games i have been a part of.
3. Some will say that the split with TOFU has hurt you guys, any response to that?
There is no doubt that the split hurt us. We lost the top quads team and 3 of the best doubles teams on CC. Do not be confused and think it was on bad terms, we have no problems with any of the TOFU players. Chariot of Fire is a damn good leader and just wanted his chance to do things his way. It was an unfortunate of how quick it all happened, leaving LOW a little crippled, but we have been recovering and are still doing so.
One can draw several conclusions from this. Some might say that O&H was a little lucky with the maps that came out of random maps, while others will say that they are much better than we thought. Or did the split with TOFU, taking so many good players from Low, hurt them more than many realized? Or was it just dice? In all likelihood it is a combination of these things. Perhaps a few games were luck. I am sure that even O&H members would admit that if they were to play a rematch that they would probably not beat LOW by such a tremendous margin. At the same time we must admit that the split has hurt LOW, although from the look of their CLA standings (they are second in their division at the time of printing), perhaps not as bad as this loss makes it sounds. Finally, all top clans must stand up and take notice. O&H is here and not to be taken lightly. They will likely take their place alongside the top clans on CC soon. TSM vs THOTA Update Round 3 of the clan war between TSM and THOTA is now in full swing. This clan war will go 4 rounds totaling 80 games between some of CC’s top players. At the moment the score is 27-23, with TSM holding on to its 4 game lead that it had going into round 3. However, THOTA is fighting harder than ever, and many Monki’s are wondering if we will even be able to pull a 10-10 split in round 3. There was a bit of controversy towards the end of round 2 when skillfull ’s turn appeared to have been started by someone other than he. Time ran out before Skillful deployed, Game 6019138 Some arguing and drama ensued, some of it playing out in the public challenge thread. Skillful was completely sure that he had not started the turn. Some on TSM asked if the game should be void and played over. Tempers flared a little over this. However, information from CC indicated that the turn had been started by someone within the Skill’s geographical location, (Greece). The issue was settled without any games being voided, but emotions still ran high. Next was the incident of Blitz accusing a Monki of breaking an agreed upon rule. Players were up in arms for about 30 seconds, till everyone realized that the Monki he was upset with was ChipV, not a Monki at all. A CLA game was confused with a clan war game, and all had a good laugh about it. The clan war has been stressful on many. At times players have gotten upset, including the author of this article. All in all though, one can honestly say that parties on both sides have acted in a respectable fashion, showing good sportsmanship and being gracious in their victories and their defeats.Other Top Clan Wars: Immortal Assassins vs. Imperial Dragoons seems to finally be getting back underway. This looked to be one of the top clan wars of the year when it was kicking off. However after a lackluster start, and a long delay games getting going, clan war fans appeared to have lost interest in this one. Now there is action again. ID had taken an early 4-1 lead, after several had predicted a win by IA. IA has come back though, and has tied it up at 10 all. IA and ID are two of the top clans on cc, and this 42 game war looks to be short but exciting. BSS vs AOD is moving after their holiday break also. This 120 game challenge is the largest that CC has ever seen. Two clan wars combined does not usually add up to 120 games. Both Black Sheep Squadron and Angels of Death are very good clans, and apparently, evenly matched. The score stands at 36-44 with AOD in the lead, but there are still 40 more games left to play, so its anybodies win. Round 5 games have just begun.
Interview with O&H Player Danryan by murphy16 show
Murphy16 Interviews co-leader of Outlaws & Highwaymen Danryan M - So I know from personal experience that you have had been around for a good while. Being around for almost 3 years how have you seen change in the clans on conquer club? D - For my first two years I paid no attention to clans. I was too busy playing tournaments and public games. I have seen a move in the last 18 months where more clans "stick" - for example there are about 15 clans now that have been around for quite some time, at least a year. M - Have you taken part in any other clan before Outlaws & Highwaymen? D - No. M - What drove you to becoming part of this up and coming clan? D - Rocketry, the leader, is a big part of why I joined. No one takes themselves too seriously and we talk a lot of sh*t in our game chats and in our forum. I really liked the challenge of starting from scratch and proving ourselves. M -How has the road been for being a new clan? D - A lot of work being the leader and organizing clan wars, but also very rewarding. We finally hit a critical mass in the summer of 2009 - before that it seemed like about 5 players were doing all the talking in the forums and playing in games. Now we have at least 20 that are pretty active. M - What has your experience been like with them? D - I would say without a doubt this is the best clan on CC - certainly we don't have what most would consider the top team players like THOTA or TOFU, although we can hold our own with anyone (we just beat LOW pretty soundly). We have incredible camaraderie and a very active forum. I guess the best way to summarize it is that now, when I log into CC, I go to the clan forum before I look at any of my games. That is how tied into the clan I've become.
Clan League Update by jpcloet show
The League is about 60-65% completed and it is this time of year where clans begin to separate themselves. In Div1A, Knights of the Round Table are walking all over the previous season champions THOTA 5-0, and doing so on the road. This has put them now into 1st place in their division. As it stands, Both IA and KORT have a significant lead over THOTA which would put THOTA out of the playoffs. THOTA's chance to get back into the race is right now as they are now starting their next week with IA. This head-to-head matchup with IA will likely decide their playoff fate. In Div1B, LOW and TSM are battling for first with a strong showing by The Bullet-Proof Bandits and Nemesis right on their heels. Most of these clans will play each other and their schedules are fairly even so it is anyone's game here. It will take strong play to the very last game to ensure playoff entry.

Stop right there. Yes, you! I see you about to post your "Rigged Dice!" thread in the forum after losing your third game in a row. Well guess what sunshine? We've all been there, it isn't a scenario unique to you. Don't just take my word for it though. With the power of technology and programming, our technicians who live and work behind the scenes have a little something that'll speak for itself: The Dice Analyser Now if you want to use this, you'll firstly need to allow cookies to run for Conquer Club if you haven't already done so. Reason being is that the cookies are there to store information, and in this case, the analyser collects your exact dice numbers from game to game after you activate it. Yes that's right. All of them. Why? So you can see them in awesome colour-coded graph form. You get one graph showing your attacking dice distribution, one for your defending dice and another for battle outcomes. You also get a bar for your overall stats. Even better, you can apply those stats to not just all of your games, but any one in particular. Now you may think you've been on a losing streak recently, but the whole point of this is after you've played a dozen or so games after activation, you will almost certainly see you've actually been getting just as many sixes as you have ones. Percentages do not lie. Don't worry too much. Your mind is naturally going to focus more on crap dice than excellent dice. It's in our nature. With The Dice Analyser however, you can put your mind at ease, and get on with the game. Leave your keyboard warrior skills to the game comments section aye? If you're interesting in getting the script, or you want more information on the Dice Analyser here's the link.
A Newts Tale By elfish_lad show
I’m pretty sure that ?’s don’t read the CC Newsletter. Pretty sure they don’t even know the Newsletter exists. Hell. I'm not sure they are aware of anything other than "OMG what the frick deal is this map and why do these dice suck and I think I'm done with this site and I still have time before my mom gets home to go look at some more porn!" And I will go out on a limb and add that out of those few players who utilize the message boards (and we are not Legion are we?) that reading the newsletter isn’t high on the list of priorities of gamers. Just a guess. Maybe nude Elf pictures would help circulation (and holy poop, I wrote that and then looked for the picture... you have got to be kidding me). I highly doubt it. But CC is a very odd group as you well know. Nonetheless, if fellow newts did read this fine publication with more regularity, what would you tell them? I have a couple of thoughts about that. Of course I do. The Elf always has a couple of thoughts about everything doesn’t he? Here is the first thing I would tell fellow newts: don’t take candy from strangers. I know from personal experience that it is difficult to resist. It looks so good. It's looks so yummy. But if common sense were to prevail you would realize that you are really the only snack being offered. For crap's sake think: Hänsel und Gretel . This is what I mean. You are new here. Or, you’ve been around for awhile, had some fun but aren’t really ranking up all that fast. Meh. No worries. Most of us are cool with that. In fact that’s my story in a nutshell. In either case the CC PostMaster hand delivers this to you (notice... it is written in blood... think Charles Manson or closer to the theme of this article: Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard! Even though it is written on cool flower paper.): Awesome! What a fantastic feeling!!! Now you are starting to make a name for yourself! Right? This high caliber player must have heard about you through another high quality player and said: “Damn! I gotta invite this stud to my next party!” Right? Or maybe it was that they have been watching you from afar and have been your secret admirer for the week you’ve been playing here at CC? I’m sure that is it. Has to be. Wait! No! I know what it is! CC (unlike all OTHER online game sites) is a community where established players are really loving toward less experienced participants and this is just one of dozens of examples of how CC players reach out to new or weaker players like us with encouragement and gaming affection! Damn I’m good. That could very well be it. And yet? And yet... if you look a bit closer at same said elegantly written invitation you might very well see this in the fine print: Totally up to you newt to interpret the meaning of the magical missive given to you… by a complete stranger… with a knife between their teeth... and blood on their hands. Maybe it will be a great learning experience for you. I hope it is. My guess though? Here comes an old fashioned kielhalen also known as a "keelhauling" or an "ass-whooping". And it will be your own damn fault. Because there isn't anything CC can do to help you. Like specific game filters or anything. Or stages of map entry by experience level. You are just out to sea on your own. In your little row boat and your 1000 points. And that three masted frigate you see there on the horizon? It's not bringing piña coladas !!! But do you know what is even worse? In my futile desire to help you, as a CC newt, think this through a bit more, in a newsletter you will never read, I now have to live with the picture of a naked male elf in my photobucket for awhile. (Okay. Seriously. Someone spent time drawing that ???) Ack. Cya on the High Seas newt. E. P.S. Maybe row faster.
The Sanity of Change by stahrgazer show
In Over the Hedge Michael Fry and T. Lewis quip, “The more things change, the more they remain…insane.” Well, Conquer Club has recently taken a leap over the hedge with a few new gameplay options that could either be sheer genius or total insanity, depending on one’s perspective. No Nukes! My first experience with one of the changes was a shock. I had agreed to take turns for a friend and, unaware of this new option, I laughed wickedly as I cashed in all the bolded spoils, to have that laugh turn to an agonized wail (actually it was a series of explosive expletives that I’ve censored out of this article) as I watched his/my bonuses and stacks disappear. OMG! What the heck was this lunacy??!! Like many before me, I had failed to read the announcement: Nuclear Spoils I quickly threw a Beware! note into my clan forum. Some knew about it, even to the extent that, at the time, it seems, many of the CLA were prepared to boycott the setting – or at least, lump it into settings like speed and freestyle, disallowed for most clan challenges. Another Agent and I wondered whether lack’s notion of “new strategy required” was accurate, rather than the main complaint one can hear, “nuclear spoils is all about luck!”. We decided to put it to the test; to see if we could figure out a strategy for this new spoils…and where else but Arms Race! where nuking the opponent is already part of the game? Agents of Chaos are already big on communicating, but clanmate Slaylark and I decided to take that to a new level. How happy we were when I got the US bonus President in round 1! How dismayed we were when Slaylark’s first card turned out to be…you guessed it…President! We decided to stack for a few rounds and move the stack before Slaylark cashed. My first card was the USSR Bunker1. We decided to hang back around Samara in hopes of luring the opponent into taking the bunker. Our strategy worked! We held President, offloading it just in time for Slay’s nuclear strike, then laughed wildly when I was able to nuke 6 armies off the Russian bunker; the ones the opponent had moved when he took the terr, plus the three his teammate had deployed so he could hold off against Samara. To play Nuclear effectively, you have to plan around where you’ll nuke; when to stack and when to attack. Since you cannot count on keeping bonuses forever, front-loading does not necessarily work, so setting up contingency plans is highly recommended. In the end, I agree with lackattack : Nuclear spoils "forces one to develop a new sort of strategy;" it’s not all about luck.Controlled (Manual) Deploys While that first, surprise! look at nuclear spoils could have turned me against them, my first experiences with Manual Deploy were unimpressive. Perhaps that’s because I started with AoR and Feudal team games, where “where to place” is a no-brainer. Simply put, starting with those games, I didn’t get it; what’s the big deal; Yawn! Knowing that others enjoy the setting, I asked a friend, nemrehs1 , what he found appealing about it.nemrehs1 wrote: Although i prefer to just play automatic, manual is pretty good too. It makes for strategy. Rather than having a lot of 3's scattered around everywhere on the map at the start, you have the choice on where to put those initial troops, so you can make better use of your drops
With Manual Deploy, terrs are still randomly assigned. In Round 1, you get the difference between that single and what would be 3 armies per terr to deploy-only, no attack. Even in non-foggy games you will see a ? instead of opponents’ troops so you have to plan your attacks and defenses blindly. Round 1 is set up freestyle so you do not know who will go first until Round 2 begins. Asked about the cons, nemrehs1 indicates, nemrehs1 wrote: Usually mostly everyone deploys all their troops on one spot so it could turn to a build game even before the game truly starts.
On the plus side, the Manual Deploy setting can help counter the problem with the first player winning a majority of the time, as nem found with Game 5854684 , his favorite game on that setting so far. His team went second but good strategy with their deploys enabled them to take and keep bonuses and the lead in early rounds. After talking with nem, I began to see how the Manual Deploy more closely simulates a board game (unnamed) that I grew up playing, where we took initial terrs then added reinforcements before we rolled for who went first. I wondered, though, if nem would have liked that game as much if it had used Nuclear Spoils.nemrehs1 wrote: I think it is good at times, but it sucks when you have to nuke your bonus and regain it. It might be good for assassin, but you could also eliminate another target and the nukes go in the order as to how long you have had the card in your hand
I disagree with nem’s contention that it is hard to utilize good strategy if your stack gets nuked, but he's accurate that it can really change what happens in Assassin games.deathcomesrippin wrote: Speaking of nuclear spoils, some guy nuked my last province in an assassin game to give the win away. I thought it was a gutsy play.
What nem said of Manual Deploy, “Adds a twist to the game play,” applies to both. What about those who think we should not enable these new variations for CC maps? The main dangers in this life are the people who want to change everything - or nothing. (Nancy Astor) Either way, the new Manual Deploy and Nuclear Spoils options are,nemrehs1 wrote: …kinda fun if you get bored of regular card settings.
Even if they are ...insane!

Q. Hi there lord voldemort Hey friends.... Q. What is you avatar all about then? My current avatar....i love lol cats. And my fav harry potter website (http://www.mugglenet.com) now has harry potter themed lol cats. So I rotate through them...almost time for a new one though Q. How come so many people think you are not keeping up to the task of War Manager for Imperial Dragoons? What is the story behind all of that? I am not actually the war person from ID.....and we were never out of date...anyway Q. Is it stressful being a C&A Moderator? If you could decide, what would be the punishment regime for spurious reports? Yes and no. I think having 3 others plus king a and andy around helps...If it was just me I might get stressed. Spurious reports are annoying. Especially ones that a) are just revenge reports b) ones that are obvious...like alliances in team games Q. How does it feel to make some of the more questionable calls? Umm...someone has to do it. Most of the questionable calls....if not all of them we (as in the 5 of us king a, king s, evil semp and eye8) discuss what we think and come to a decision we aggre with. The person giving the veerdict is just relaying what all of us think Q. What activities do you spend time doing, outside of Conquer Club? I work at a casino, dealing cards I fit in the gf any spare time really I play baseball. So thats 3-4 days/nights a week. I play poker with guys from work every week. And I play alot of xbox I sleep... Q. If you had to be stuck on an island with a group of CCer's, who would you choose and why? Tough choice... Prolly nagerous to party with...and owen cause he is the man Q. What are one or two of your best Conquer Club memory---game/clan/forum related? When I won a tournament....I was so excited. When I first got to 2000. Old school epic mafia games were fun when I was an immature lil girl Q. What was the best thing before sliced bread ? regular bread loaves not sliced Q. And in your current lifestyle, what is the best use of a single brick ? To hold my door open Q. What were your plans for your birthday? Just been a week ago. On my bday i slept til 5 pm...then went out for dinner with mumsy, gf and 2 best mates. Then after dinner drove for 2 hours to my favourite surf spot for the next day of non stop surfing The saturday night just been...House party...and I got a tiny bit drunk Q. Has there ever been a case in C&A you really enjoyed handling, Point dumping case, I was the only one online....so I banned the account and had to issue about a dozen warnings to people taking advantage of it as well as a few who earned more sever punishment. It was kind of fun and satisfying. Q. Do you think C&A should resemble a legal system? (I mean like something closer to say, an American legal system.) Well as I am not american I cannot really comment....But a legal system I assume you mean an impatial 3rd paty (c&a mods) and two arguing parties....prosecution and defence. Then no...It would be too time consuming and it just really isnt needed. The current system of reporting cheaters and the mods investigating and handling it works well. Q. Name three things that are always in your refrigerator. Beer, powerade and eggs Q. Do you like blueberries? nope Q. Does being a C&A God define you as a person? Lol i wouldnt say I am a god. And CC doesnt define me as a person...so no way does c&a Q. Who would win? You or Harry Potter ? Prolly me.....We actually played team games together once for lolz Q. Are you a fan of Star Wars? Would you like to join the Star Wars fans usergroup? i love star wars. But no I dont want to join anymore usergroups. Q. How many hours a day are you on CC? Depends...used to be way more. As I worked on a computer. I no longer do. So it all depends on if I am with the gf or not at night. If i am with her...then its take turns and leave...If not a few hours here and there Q. Why must you force me to say his name aloud when I talk about you with my mother?! Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself Q. What one or two features do you wish Conquer Club had?
