Welcome Comrades to the 48th edition of the Dispatch
Yes, my comrades, three apocalypses. Allow me to explain my clever metaphor in a convenient numbered list:
May 21st, 2011 - The beginning of the end, or so says Harold Camping. Are we all sinners doomed to die in a massive earthquake on October 21st, 2011, and be condemned to burn in the agonizing flames of hell? Are you going to waste precious, waning time on reading this edition of the CC Dispatch? Well, we on the Newsletter Staff would like to thank you for spending your End Times with us.The Second Second Coming - Another Conquerer has silently strolled in to rule once again, except he's not here to rapture his faithful friends. Yes, Blitzaholic is back in the virtual flesh to take back what ljex and rabbiton briefly enjoyed. Thankfully this Conquerer won't be condemning us all to hell!...or so we hope...The Horsemen - A heated clan war is taking place between The Horsemen of the Apocalypse (THOTA) and the Bulletproof Bandits (BpB). Nominated by the subject of this issue's interrogation as "Best Thread of the Year" , will Blitz be able to swoop in and help his Horsemen clean house, or is it too late for our asterisked hero to play Mrs. Doubtfire? Also, a shout-out to all you Newsletter Subscribers: Thanks for subscribing! nagerous Freestyle Executive The Scum Insider by nagerous, fircoal and safariguy5 show
The Scum Insider Mafia is a popular and thriving area of the CC forums that has its own sub-forum. It is a game of intelligence, deception and quick wittedness so if that peaks your interest be sure to check it out! Newbie Help Want to get into the Mafia scene, but don't know how to play or even what it is? Consult these threads: Mafia Information , Mafia and You , and Rules and Terms of Mafia . Too much work? Too lazy to read through everything? No worries, you can always jump right into a game and ask for other players or the game runner to help guide you. What is "Mafia"? Mafia, for those of you that don't know, is a game that generally takes place in a town, where the townspeople have to determine who the mafia (or "scum") is and lynch them via a majority vote during the day and the mafia try to kill everyone at night and bluff their way out of getting killed by the town.Mafia News Many new games have started up since the last issue. These include South Park Mafia by blakebowling which is this edition's feature game! As usual with mafia games the game began with joke voting with classic South Park references such as Mr. Garrison quotes:Commander9 wrote: Victor Sullivan wrote: Let's settle down, class, mmkay? Drugs are bad, mmkay?
However, since then the action has taken a more serious note with accusations flying around with a bandwagon on new player 40kguy developing and then quickly rescinding after making a claim of Stan Marsh. It'll certainly be an interesting game to watch and follow so even if you're not in the game and have never played, why not give it a read . Tune in next edition to find out the latest from The Big Lebowski game, which I am currently modding!Mini interview of Fircoal What made you interested in playing mafia? Well a long long time ago back when flame wars existed and the mafia forum didn’t, I was browsing the Off-Topics forum (Whatever it was called at the time) for fun, or more rather because I was bored and had nothing better to do. Among the threads I read that day, there were sign ups for a mafia game (Finn Rock Fallout was the game if anyone was interested). I read the rules and got interested in playing the game. I signed up, and well sadly I didn’t get picked for it (Ironic now), so I played some on Mafiascum and when the next game (Autoload’s 7 player) came, a game for those who didn’t get in, I signed up for that and the rest was history. So in short, I saw it and it perked my interests. What has been your favourite game you've played? That’s really hard to say, there have been lots of fun games. I’d probably have to say Stargate just because being mafia with all your pals and discussing the game on msn is really fun. Especially when someone messes up and accidentally adds someone who isn’t in the mafia. X3 (Or when everyone is planning with the uspuser to kill the godfather. ) What has been your favourite game to mod? NV3. It went really fast and got to 100 pages. It was so fun to be tricking everyone and watching them all flail around thinking they were all sneaky and stuff but in the end they didn’t know much about the setup and some of them even created their downfall with this (Lol Mandy). It was really a load of fun. NV4, and NV5 were fun too. Kirby was great also. Lots of fun games really. :3 Who is the scummiest of the scummiest? Mandy of course. As if you had to ask that. X3Mafia Callouts Calling all players interested! Some mafia games need some filling: Sign-ups: No games are currently in sign-ups but it is never long before a new mod makes a game so keep an eye on the threads! Seeking Replacements: Feel free to consult the new Replacement Thread to see what games are in need of reserves/replacements. Now get out there and investigate Mafia for yourself: viewforum.php?f=213 Advanced Roles and Strategy by safariguy5 This week, we're talking about a very gun-happy role. The Vigilante What is it? The Vigilante has a nightkill that they can use every night if they choose to.Example John is the vigilante. At night, he uses his nightkill (or vig kill) on John. John dies the next day in addition to anybody who was killed by the mafia. How to Play this Role Vigilantes are very powerful roles that are always town . A common beginner's mistake is start making kills on Night 1 and every subsequent night. In any game, the ratio of town to mafia is much greater than 50-50, and it's extremely difficult to guess who might be mafia on Day 1. The Vigilante should be careful and not draw too much attention, and being forced to claim and preoccupying the doctor protection makes it more difficult for cops and other investigative roles to receive protection later on in the game. Good early targets for Vigilantes generally are Jesters if they exist in the game. Cult recruiters can also warrant Vigilantes to start using their Nightkill earlier, in hopes of hitting a cult member or recruiter himself to keep the cult in check. But in standard setup games where there are only town and mafia, Vigilantes become much more useful in the mid to late game when cops may have more than one guilty result to reveal.

The TPA (Tournament Players Association ) is nearing the end. Not the fake rapture like the other night, but a real end. There are no new tournaments up for TPA Season 1, but there are still results coming in.sonicsteve is still at the top the scoreboard with 40.62 points. He is frankly running away with it. It's like he is a Yankees hitter and the pitchers are Red Sox. It's getting ugly. Anyway, HighlanderAttack is second with 35.14 and MudPuppy is third with 33.86, though Timminz is on his heels in fourth with 33.63 points. With TPA Season I now over - as far as tourneys being joined - you are invited to give us your ideas for Season II here.

This is our regular look at just a few of the tournaments currently in the sign-up stage:deantursx debut tournament caught my eye - Mercenaries will see each player assume the role of a mercenary, pitting their wits against others through 6 elimination rounds with 6 games at a time. The TO has planned a nice selection of maps for the mercs to tackle, with varying settings. 36 entrants needed, sign up here spidey ’s FA Cup tournament is already half-full, but with a total of 136 spots, there is still plenty of opportunity to join the action. The structure is similar to the format of the English FA Cup, which may need a little explanation for those unfamiliar with football (soccer) in my fair country. Essentially lower ranked teams play each other in the early rounds for the right to progress, while the high-ranked teams are given byes. spidey will sort the players by rank to mimic the real-world event. Sign up here Another recently launched tournament is the interestingly-titled Emergency Roadside Assistance which is a terminator-style tournament with a twist, created by Fuzzy316 . One of the losers in each round will be put back on the tournament road with the help of the emergency services. 128 spots are available here Mr. President, sir, we have a situation. We have to move you to a safer location... Protect the President by shieldgenerator7 is very unusual in that the TO invites players to nominate a president in each game. Once the votes are in each player will take on the role of President, Assassin or Security Guard. This is an ambitious concept and I recommend that you read the rules carefully before signing up here . 12 slots were still available for this 32 player event at the time of writing. Finally, if you can’t wait for one of these to fill and want to get some tourney action now, check out the Requests for Immediate Players section of the tournament forum.
Beginners guide to hosting a CC Tournament by sonicsteve show
Part II – Smooth Running A couple of issues back my first newsletter article covered how to launch your tournament in the create/join section of the tournaments forum. This second article will look at how to make your event run smoothlyPermissions Once you have a full complement of players, plus a couple of reserves, getting permissions is very easy. Simply edit the header of your original post to say FULL at the end of the title. The tournament directors regularly scan through the list and will issue tournament privileges, if nothing has happened after a couple of days, PM one of them. Once you have privileges it is worth editing the title from ‘FULL’ to ‘Round 1’, changing the round's number each time the event progresses to the next stage.Game Creation Now that you’ve been issued the tournament privileges, you can create your games. Note that tourney privileges must be used only to create games for the event they were issued for. Creating tournament games is very similar to creating normal games, but you’ll notice you now have a drop-down box on the ‘Start A Game’ menu labeled ‘Tournament’. You’ll need to select your tournament in this window in addition to the game settings you’ve chosen. Be VERY careful in selecting your game settings. It is all too easy to create standard games instead of terminator, then realize your mistake after the invites have gone out… It is often worth using the Game Label to show which round the tourney is in or to state the victory conditions, e.g. “Round 3 – top two progress”. You will need to use password(s) for your event.Invites or PMs? With your Round 1 games created, you now need to fill them. The two options are by PMing the players with the game number and password, or by invitation. PM: If using this method, a very nice way to automate it for your players is to type [to ]1234567 password[/to] which will look like this auto-join link when sent: View Game 1234567 (Auto-Join Game ). I like this method for 8-player games where I can send a PM with a link to all 8 people at once. Invitations: As a tournament organizer, you can use the invitations system, which is also a very convenient way for your players to join games. Just use Game Finder to search for the games you created (type the first few letters of the tournament name in the ‘Tournament’ drop-down) and then work down the list. I maintain my player lists and scoreboards in Excel, which allows me to copy/paste each name into the invite player box, much quicker than typing all the invites. Results I’m planning on a future article to cover the tools available to publish results and leaderboards in your thread, but the main options in summary are (1) create a table in Excel and use Photobucket to host an image of your spreadsheet which you include in your thread, (2) use Google docs to host your Excel file, though this is really necessary only for a very complex table, (3) use Challonge or another online bracket maker or (4) very simply type the results directly into your thread, which is fine for a simple event.Reserves Inevitably, players come and go within the CC world, and you may well need to use reserves, especially for a longer event. The first reserves to contact are those who signed up after your event filled, but if you don’t have enough then a post in the Requests for Immediate Players thread should attract a reserve for you.We have a Winner! If you stuck it out, resolved any joining issues and found reserves when needed, then congratulations - not only will everyone have had a good time, but you’ll be able to declare a winner. All you need to do is edit the tournament header with the words, “Winner: player x”, and the tournament directors responsible should pick this up, issue medals and move the tournament to the completed section of the forum. A nice touch is a PM to all involved, so that those knocked out in earlier rounds know who won. For a more detailed and comprehensive guide check out Official Conquer Club Tournament Handbook or if you are stuck you can post questions in the Q&A section – you’ll find that tourney organizers are a friendly bunch and always willing to help

It's been an interesting fortnight in the clan world, both inside and out. Latest news has it that the BpB-Thota war has been locked again due to the controversy engendered therein, and discomfiting rumors abound on
Conqueror's Cup initial wars not being applicable for medal hand-outs.
My co-reporter for this issue
Jigger1986 , and I have updates on the situation for the Conquerors and
Newcomers Cups respectively, but there are also events in the
1v1 Challenge where Empire and FOED both reach the final, and particularly noteworthy is the inspirational display by The Spanking Monkeys in holding off IA's entrance to the

Conquerors Cup 2-Round 2 Update by Leehar (Nem) show
Welcome to another wrap-up of the second round of the premier clan tournament. The games have progressed significantly since the last update and we're looking at a tense finale as more and more games approach their swansong. Most of the match-ups are very closely contested affairs, but we do have some relative blow-outs in leads on face-value, so let's get to the nitty gritty and see how the end result is really shaping up 12 vs. 9 The Horseman of the Apocalypse vs. The Bullet Proof Bandits - The match-up that has had the most renown outside the clan scene, it is as much a heavily contested battle in the games as it is in the forums. With Mr Changsha of the BpB declaring victory in the verbal spars, it's now up to Thota to pull off the victory where it counts. Contrary to some recent matches involving Thota, they took the lead early in this set and they really don't look like they plan on relinquishing it to the upstarts the BpB represent. After all, with a 15 place difference in the seedings, and Thota coming in as first ranked and losing finalists there really wasn't as much expectation of them falling at the first hurdle as many would have hoped after some very public affairs regarding their members. With a lot of the final games composing of No Spoils, a rough estimate does give Thota 9 advantages they can use for victory. BpB however, have shown their ability before and have numerous leads of their own, so the final score could be anywhere upwards from 22 wins for thota and 16 for BpB. 20 vs. 13 Agents of Chaos vs. The Fantastic Four-Skins - An enticing duel where TFFS continue to impress after their upset win over 9th seeded Imperial Dragoons in the first round. However, like a lot of TFFS's games, they seem to be more involved in getting the job done, then on forum-side banter, with their match-up against AoC having the least views of the second round, though AoC's own circumspection could also be at fault there. An interesting development in the challenge games shows the benefit of making smart choices in home games as the first batch had a large number of games going to the respective home teams. However, AoC have again shown their strength by securing sufficient leads in the remaining games to pull out ahead. Victory does look assured for them with perhaps as many as 5 games still in their favor, and they've shown themselves as serious contenders for the Cup title. Lets keep in mind however that the still have a Clan League Final to contest; therefore, their depth will have to reveal if their extraordinary run can continue. 16 vs. 9 Legends of War vs. ++The Legion++ - Legion have been in somewhat of a slump lately following their slim victory over Mythology late last year, so it'll be interesting to see how well they can perform. The Clan League Div A meeting ended 10-8 in LoW's favour, so the clans have shown themselves to be closely-matched While LoW took an early lead that they've held since, the remaining games still in play are so close that it really is anyone's ball game down the final stretch. LoW must obviously continue being favorites considering their pedigree and the formidable lead they still hold, but they definitely don't look to have the wins yet to confirm victory. As Legion continue to claw back into contention step-by-step they still have hope to go for victory if they can clinch most of the remaining games still to be decided. 13 vs. 8 The Spanking Monkeys vs. A Fistful of Sixes - AFOS are the other clan to perform an upset in the first round after TFFS, though their clan genealogy makes that a bit less shocking. TSM have been relatively quiet of late, but they've shown their abilities numerous times over the years, albeit less often in the clan scene than one would hope. Tsm just recently took a slim lead but with a relatively late start to the second batch of games, we're a ways from gathering a reasonable estimate of the final score. Of note however, is that the allegation of "just luck" reared it's head once again in this challenge as bad blood was engendered between the 2 clans after TSM appeared to have had more first turns in the second batch of games, which outraged the patrons of the fist. 17 vs. 9 Knights of the Round Table vs. Generation One - Another extremely close contest between 2 clans that went so far as to tie in their very first encounter . G1 are again pushing Kort extremely hard, and while there are many games too close to call, as an echo to the Thota-BpB match, the defending champions look to have just enough in their tank (udder?) to get at least the 4 more victories they need to ensure advancement to the next round. A recent twist in the tale comes in however as G1 open a C&A case against Kort star-player josko.ri , stay tuned for the details to see what arises from these allegations. 14 vs. 4 Fraternal Order of Exceptional Drinkers vs. Immortal Assassins - The most surprising encounter of the second round where Foed have stormed into an enormous lead over 6th seeded IA. While the challenge is far from over, Foed look to be in the driver's seat as they exact revenge for their 11-7 loss to IA in the Clan League . It's still early days yet with many games yet to be decided, but it appears that IA have their backs hard against the wall. A rough assessment gives enough of a lead in the remaining games for Foed to scrape through, but who knows if early celebrations by Foed could end up with their lead disappearing into the night at the assassins behest (along with the heads of their leaders . 19 vs. 8 Empire vs. Nemesis - Empire have secured an apparently significant advantage already, and they don't look to be in any difficulty with only 2 more wins to garner in order to secure victory. The remaining games are just a matter of regaining some pride for Nemesis and avoiding the ignominy of staying in single digits. Empire put in a very impressive display and proved themselves to be the nemesis of Nemesis and leave the Nemesians nursing their wounds after such a galling defeat. 12 vs. 10 Brethren of the Fat Mermaid vs. The Odd Fellows Union - With some lopsided luck for both sides, this is perhaps the closest encounter of the first round as it is very difficult to split the 2 sides. Maybe you can call a few games here or there as having good leads, but overall the outcome looks to be extremely tight. With both sides having some amazing players, they're proving it with epic battles in the games. With strategy of such high quality on display here, those little changes in dice could end up being the difference. While the finished games show Tofu with a slight lead, Bofm to be holding most of the advantages in the other games so Tofu will have to give the performance of their lives in order to prove their mettle and come away with victory in this close encounter.
Newcomers Cup Finals by Jigger1986 (GR) show
To some the Newcomers Cup may be a side show overshadowed by the larger Clan League and Conquerors Cup activities. Regardless of however under-ranked, under-rated and under-estimated the clans in this challenge are, heads have been turning and CC players "in the know" on the clan scene are noticing the fierce competition this cup has seen. Starting with 12 clans the field has now been narrowed down to 3 clans who will battle in 3 way round robin finals to determine the winner.Grim Reapers After a leadership change and re-organization, this clan (that I am proud to be a leader of) is on a roll and preparing to take the prize. Ranked number 1 at the start of the challenge, the Reapers took on the bottom ranked Grenadier Guards and won in decisive fashion. In round 2 the competition was more intense, with the Grim Reapers taking on The Pig Renters and coming away with another victory. Starting as top ranked, the Reapers are now considered underdogs and are anxious to prove the clan world wrong. The Pack Not enough can be said about this clan. Ex-Memento Mori members Great-Ollie and John Deere formed the clan and after being denied a spot in the Conquerors Cup set out on a war path that is now 5 wins long. At first considered among the top 5 clans in the challenge, their "walk in the park" wins over Welsh Dragons and Spelunkers of Hell in the first two rounds have proven that this clan is definitely a top contender for the title. Now considered the favorites to win, The Pack look to push their war record to 7-0, but will have some stiff competition in the finals. One Step Ahead Lead by Benga , the host of the Newcomers Cup, One Step Ahead was initiated into the clan scene on CC, playing 5 simultaneous wars. Most notable in these wars was a close loss to Devils Brigade, but since that loss this clan has proven to be one step ahead of the competition. After a breezy victory against Order 66 in the first round of the cup, OSA met Wild Geese in the semi finals. In a war that many considered to be a disappointment happening in the second round instead of the finals, OSA were able to pull off a narrow win against the more experienced WG and clinch their spot in the finals. By far the most exciting war of the competition so far, I'm sure this is a battle that neither clan will forget any time soon. The finals of the Newcomers Cup are set to start soon and all three clans are ready to prove they have what it takes to be crowned champions of this event. Be sure to check out the Newcomers Cup Thread for updates on the action. For specific clan war updates check out the Active Challenges Sub-Forum and look for clan wars tagged [NC] to signify the Newcomers Cup. Being a participant in the finals, I would like to take this opportunity to wish OSA and The Pack good luck, I can't wait to meet on the battlefield!
