Welcome Comrades to the 60th edition of the Dispatch
show: just in case you didnt get the reference
Hello, hello! The Dispatch is going through some changes! You may have noticed one already: the reinstitution of
Ask A Mod! Well, our format around here has changed slightly - I've moved up to "Chief Executive" with the beloved
samuelc812 's departure and will therefore be sort of 'running the place' (with the Executives by my side) and I hope to make the CC Dispatch more expansive and exciting
One way we're achieving this is through the new "Subscriber of the Issue" feature, where a a subscriber is randomly chosen to receive a General Achievement medal - the only catch is that the chosen player must PM me in order to receive his or her medal, so be on the lookout for your name! That is, if you're a
Subscriber to the CC Dispatch This issue, our lucky winner is
darth emperor ! To receive your medal, PM me with the title of this issue as the title, and the new Foundry Executive's name in the body.
I've mentioned it already, but it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dear Team Leader and founder of the Newsletter,
samuelc812 . We quite literally would not be here without all of the hard work and effort he put into this. With his leaving, we would like to say a big, pink
THANK YOU! to Sam for everything he's done, from events to the Newsletter and beyond. We also say a hearty hello to new Team Leader,
Gilligan , as he takes the reigns of the
Entertainment Team . He has big shoes to fill, as I'm sure we're all aware, but I have faith in him, as the rest of you should, too
True, Sam's leaving may leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many, but we look forward to the things ahead. Who knows? Maybe he'll be back some day...
Also, the Dispatch could really use some Reporters and Writers!
safariguy5 is actively looking for more Freestyle Writers, and with the leaving of long-time Tournament Reporter,
angola , I'm sure
Dukasaur could use a hand! And let's not forget Clans and Foundry! I bet
Leehar and
thehippo8 would love to have more help
Just send the appropriate Executive a brief application! If you don't know what section you'd like to write for, or if you're still not sure who to PM, you are always welcome to PM me, and I can fit you with an Executive
Now that I've effectively written an essay, onto the issue! We have a special, exciting interview with Support Volunteer Administrator,
king achilles ,
shieldgenerator7 continues his pieced novella, Dukasaur breaks down
Game 10000000 , hippo talks Turkey, and
alt1978 talks upsets and underdogs in the clan world. Oh yes, and make sure to check out the early release of Ask A Mod! in the Mess Hall
Enjoy the fruits of our laboring fingers!
Victor SullivanChief Executive If you would like to apply to join the news team, please visit the thread below for more details!
Click here for Recruitment Details... Hello again readers, to another edition of the freestyle section. shield has brought us another chapter of his ongoing story about a post-apocalyptic CC world, Sully starts his "Ask A Mod!" series, and we have another Scum Insider to all you mafia aficionados out there.

king achilles riffs about his job, the Philippines, and some of the behind-the-scenes legwork that goes into running the website.

safariguy5 Freestyle Executive Ask A Mod! by Victor Sullivan show
Well, I think I'm going to jump the gun a bit on this one, but given recent circumstances, I'd like to answer this question from the Ask A Mod! thread:eagleblade22 wrote: How commonly are there new positions for mods?
In my experience, open callouts have been few and far between. It just so happens that there is an open callout right now for Entertainment Contributors , Discussions Moderators , and Clan Directors - rather unheard of in the time I've been on this site. You can visit the callout here . I highly recommend you graphics whizzes out there to apply for the Entertainment Team , because I might just be able to use you Anywho, back to the question. For the most part (when there aren't callouts like there are now), mods are either chosen or promoted from another volunteer position. For example, Cartographers and Suggestions Moderators are generally chosen according to activity in the forums they govern (like for the Cartographers , you would have to be active in making substantial comments on maps) and by posting behaviors (you will never see a troll become a mod - the most valuable trait I've seen is levelheadedness in heated situations). In the case of Academy Instructors and Newsletter Executives , the way to 'modship' is through your hard work and dedication as a non-mod volunteer. Academy Instructors work their way up from being a volunteer non-mod teacher and Newsletter Executives were once avid non-mod Newsletter Reporters and Writers. That's how I became a mod! I worked hard as a Foundry Reporter, then was eventually was able to step up as Foundry Executive when dolomite13 left. And now I'm the 'Chief' What I mean to say is hard work, high levels of activity, a cool head, and most importantly, time are what it takes to become a mod. It's not likely for anyone to join the site then *poof* they're a mod. It generally takes months. Perhaps patience is also a key trait for those who want to be mods
Epic CC Story: Chapter 1: Four Shots by shieldgenerator7 show
Epic CC Story: Chapter 1: Four Shots “Four!” President Saxitoxin swung his golf club at the ball, striking it with painstakingly good aim, and the ball flew rapidly through the cool brisk morning air towards the freshly cut fairway. “That’s a nice shot!” clapped his dark-suited comrade, Thehippo8. “Nice one Mr. President.” “I’ll take that,” said Saxitoxin proudly. “Your turn.” “Here we go,” Thehippo8 waddled up to the stake and placed his white orb on the tiny green post. He rubbed his hands together quickly and then gingerly grabbed hold of the shiny silver golf club. Arms charging back, he let it rip and sent the ball hurling into the sky. They heard a distinct plop amongst the numerous bird calls. Thehippo8 took off his sunglasses and saluted to the foggy clouds on the golf course. “Did you see where that went?” “See where what went?” asked Saxitoxin slyly, tapping the ground twice. “Here’s your ball.” “Thanks,” said Thehippo8. The security guard charged up his swing for a second chance. This time the golf ball was aimed tightly at the magnificent pole sticking out of the shallow hole 50 yards away. It bounced a couple of times as it approached the goal. Saxitoxin and Thehippo8 stood on edge as they watched, anticipating the outcome. The ball inched slowly towards the red flag, and then all of a sudden—“Yes! Yes! Go on in there! Go on in there!” –Thehippo8 shouted for joy as the ball fell into the pit. “Hole-in-one! Hole-in-one!” Thehippo8 could hardly contain his excitement. “That was my first ever hole-in-one! Praise the Lord!” Saxitoxin rolled his eyes. “We’ll call that a par.” Saxitoxin wrote down a 2 on Thehippo8’s score card as he grabbed his bags and headed toward the spot where his ball landed. “You’re no fun Mr. President,” complained Thehippo8. “And you’re too much fun,” shot back Saxitoxin. He looked back at Thehippo8 and they stared off for 5 seconds before they both broke out into a barrel laugh. Thehippo8 caught up to Saxitoxin and they walked to his ball. “20 yards to go,” said Saxitoxin, focusing on his concentration. He swung his arm back, and let his power out as his cell phone rang, breaking his concentration. The ball took off and landed in a sand trap. Saxitoxin and Thehippo8 would not repeat what Saxitoxin said before reaching to answer his phone. “Hello?” grumbled Saxitoxin after letting the phone ring for a bit. “Mr. President, sir,” stuttered the shaky telephone man, Army of GOD. “Come on, out with it,” said Saxitoxin impatiently. “We have a situation, and it requires your immediate attention.” “Is it so important I need to leave my game this instant?” “Yes, sir,” said Army of GOD. “This instant?!” “Yes, sir, it is very urgent,” confirmed Army of GOD. “Who says?” “The Secretary of State, sir,” replied Army of GOD. Saxitoxin could hear the nervousness in his voice. “Alright, but this better not be a prank call. I’m on my way to the White House.” “Yes, sir!” said Army of GOD patriotically as Saxitoxin folded his phone and repocketed it. “Come on, Mr. Security Guard,” grumbled President Saxitoxin, climbing into his golf cart. “We’ve got to go.” At the White House, several important people were sitting patiently in the heavily decorated conference room waiting for President Saxitoxin to arrive. When he did, the door slammed open. “I don’t always leave my golf game,” said Saxitoxin loudly. “but when I do, it had better be important.” “Mr. President, sir,” Army of GOD stood up. “Sit down, boy!” ordered Saxitoxin. He looked at Sempaispellcheck, the Secretary of State. “What is the meaning of this?” Saxitoxin briskly took a seat at his end of the wooden table. “Mr. President,” began Sempaispellcheck. “We have just been informed of a threat to our national security.” “What kind of threat?” “It is a scientific threat,” said Sempaispellcheck. “But I’m not good at explaining it. Here,” Sempaispellcheck motioned towards Army of GOD, who promptly turned on the projector that showed a professor sitting in his laboratory. “…is Dr. Woodruff, PhD. He is the one who discovered the threat. Dr. Woodruff,” Sempaispellcheck motioned to give Dr. Woodruff the floor. “Hello, Mr. President,” said Dr. Woodruff. “It is an honor to be able to speak with you.” “Yes, a pleasure to see you again, old friend, no need for such formalities. Now get on. What is the problem?” “It seems we have a dimensional rift forming near our planet.” “A what?!” “A dimensional rift. It is still in development but soon it will consume the whole planet. From what we have figured out, it is the result of parallel dimensions intersecting each other.” “I left my golf game for the discovery of a portal?!” yelled Saxitoxin. “Let me explain,” continued Dr. Woodruff. “We don’t know where it leads. There’s a huge possibility that it might send our planet to another solar system when it gets large enough. If that happens, then we will more than likely lose our sun and the Earth will become frozen.” “Alright, I see,” President Saxitoxin calmed down a little. “So, what are we meant to do about it?” asked Saxitoxin gruffly. “I suggest we implement launch code 404.” “Are you serious? We just closed up NASA, how are we going to do that?” “If you are not satisfied we can come up with other options.” “No, that’ll do. That’ll do. How much time do you estimate that we have?” “We can’t say for sure, but around May 17, 2052, the dimensional rift will be big enough to have a major impact on global ecosystems.” “That sounds pretty precise for being unsure.” “It’s our best estimate so far,” commented Dr. Woodruff. “Alright, thank you, Dr. Woodruff. Good bye.” “Live long and prosper,” said Dr. Woodruff as Army of GOD turned the projector off. “Sempaispellcheck, get me the director of the CIA.” President Saxitoxin was feeling a little nervous. “I’ve tried already sir,” said Sempaispellcheck. “He’s not responding.” The president grumbled as he got up slowly. “It’s been 40 long years since the founding of this City,” The president reminisced in despair. “40 long, painful years. My grandpa died in the Nuclear War of 2012, and I can only imagine what he’d say about what goes on today.” He hit the wall in agony. “This world’s been through so much already. Why does it have to be like this? We were on our way to starting anew, rebuilding, reconstructing what we had destroyed. Now this discovery threatens to whisk it all away.” With a swiping motion of his hand he continues, “…Whisk it all away. What now? Why?” “It’ll be alright, sir,” said Army of GOD. “Yes, yes,” reassured the president, regaining composure. “It’ll be alright, right? It’s always going to be alright. Good day, gentlemen.” And with that, he briskly walked out the glazed wooden door. Silence invaded the meeting room until Army of GOD’s offensive pushed it out: “Shall we continue our game?” asked Army of GOD. “Yes, let’s,” said Sempaispellcheck. They pulled a risk board out from under the table and set up the pieces the way they had been before the president arrived. “Who’s turn is it?” “It’s your go,” said Army of GOD, putting his cowboy hat on to get in the mood of the game. The Scum Insider by safariguy5 show
The Scum Insider Newbie Help Want to get into the Mafia scene, but don't know how to play or even what it is? Consult these threads: Mafia Information , Mafia and You , and Rules and Terms of Mafia . Too much work? Too lazy to read through everything? No worries, you can always jump right into a game and ask for other players or the game runner to help guide you. What is "Mafia"? Mafia, for those of you that don't know, is a game that generally takes place in a town, where the townspeople have to determine who the mafia (or "scum") is and lynch them via a majority vote during the day and the mafia try to kill everyone at night and bluff their way out of getting killed by the town.Mafia News Two mafia games finished recently, with a town victory in Actors Mafia and a mafia win in Clue Mafia . Actors Mafia was a fairly straightforward large game with some extra clues hidden in the night scenes. Town won by a combination of roleblocks, protections and busdrives that led to several townies being saved from nightkills. Three straight mafia lynches to end the game sealed the win. Clue Mafia was a bit more unusual in that the town had a recruiting mason group. However, the mafia secretly had one as well, and eventually managed to recruit the majority of town players to the mafia side. Then, mafia used the power in numbers to obtain the secondary win condition (with a little town help). Definitely an interesting setup with many shifting alliances.Mafia Callouts Calling all players interested! Some mafia games need some filling: Sign-ups: Seeking Replacements: Now get out there and investigate Mafia for yourself: viewforum.php?f=213 Advanced Roles and Strategy by safariguy5 We're discussing a rather venomous role this time. The Poisoner and the Poison Doctor What is It? The poisoner is a role where the person may choose to poison one person each night. Instead of dying that same night, the person dies the following night. The poison doctor functions like a regular doctor, but will only save a person if that person has been poisoned. If the person is targeted for a nightkill, the poison doctor cannot save the victim. Curing the target of poison is possible on either night the target is poisoned.Example Jack is a Poisoner, Anna is the Poison Doctor, and Chris is a Vanilla Townie. On Night 1, Jack poisons Chris. On Night 2, Anna cures Chris, thus saving him. If Anna had not targeted Chris on Night 1 or 2, Chris would have died. How to Play this Role Poisoners are usually Mafia or more rarely, Third Party . Poison Doctors are usually Town . The Poisoner can act as a secondary mafia nightkill or a third party serial killer. The role is often used to balance a lot of town protective or manipulative roles. In order for town to be able to detect a possible poisoner, they much watch for extra nightkills on alternate nights. A loss of the Poison Doctor can also be a very strong tipoff that there is a poisoner.

Q. What does a daily routine look like for you with regard to Conquer Club? Check pm's, check for any posts that needs my attention and then check the tickets. Q. What all are you in charge of on Conquer Club? Basically I look after the C&A department, the tickets and whatever issues that can be handled. Q. How would you describe your being an administrator on Conquer Club? It's like I take care of the holes of a ship so that the others can do the rowing and sailing to move forward. Q. Clearly, you have to deal with difficult situations regarding Cheating & Abuse, plus the wrath of the forum-goers that may disagree with verdicts you reach. What makes this all worth it? God. Q. What is your favorite admin "task"? I don't really have a favorite task. Q. What is your favorite thing to do on Conquer Club? When I get to help people. Also, reading when something new comes up in the C&A HQ forum. Besides from Andy and Lack, I also learn a lot from the C&A mods, past and present. Q. What is your favorite memory on Conquer Club? I've got some good CC memories but they are all personal and private stuff. Q. Why do you always have creepy avatars? How did that come about? Are they? They look just fine to me. Q. Which avatar of yours has been your favorite? My favorite is what I am using right now. I used this avatar years ago and I really like the flaming sword effect and because of this question, I am using it again. Q. Why do you wear the "Conquer the World" signature from the 2010 World Cup event 24/7? It looks simple and it's green, which represents life. Q. How do you manage to maintain such a cool head? I am very human and sometimes I do also lose my cool. Q. If there was one thing you could change about CC, what would it be? Maybe the way that people get points from new recruits. Maybe a fixed number of points like 1 or 2 points. So if I set up a 5 player game and I get 4 NR's(who usually deadbeats) the most points I would get would be 4 or 8 points. But if I lose, the regular computation will still take place. I still don't know if this is doable or agreed upon. Q. If you had the power to forum or perma ban one constant poster on the forums without any consequences, who would you pick? No comment. Q. Where am I (TheForgivenOne) in line to become a hunter Aha, just kidding, don't answer this one. Maybe in time. Q. Have you ever made a decision while being Admin that you wish you could take back? So far, no. Q. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy laying down the banhammer on a multi? For repeat offenders - 8. Q. I'm curious about the timeline. How long were you an ordinary member before you became a volunteer? What was your first volunteer position? How long did you stay in that position? I wasn't a volunteer. My first position was to answer the tickets, particularly the ratings department since they were piling up. Gradually, I was also put in as C&A moderator and hunter to help the hunters at the time. Q. When Manny Pacquiao is fighting someone, do you call in sick for the day? Never. Q. Have you ever considered posting outside of Cheating & Abuse just to post in threads that interest you? If so, what holds you back? If not, why? I do, when I have the time but answering tickets and helping investigating C&A cases takes up most of my time. I would not have the time needed to really get entangled in any forum discussion. Q. What is it like to live in the Philippines? It's a third world country so you try to manage things or get by up to the next day. Q. If Andy is a monkey, and lack is a turtle, what does that make you? King. Q. Did you personally know newtonboy and/or sw0rdf!sh? No. I also just "met" them when they were taken in by the webmaster. Q. Fondest memory of being an admin? Personal stuff but let's say when Lack and Andy gave me some encouraging talk. Q. Most complicated cheating/abuse case you have ever come across? No comment. Q. Do you ever get annoyed with all the many pms(im sure you get millions!) you get? Not really but there are times when some just don't get it or refuse to listen. Q. Do you have a favorite map to play on, or are there any maps that you find appealing? So far, they are still the Classic and Midgard maps. Q. Are you looking forward to the next Whac-A-Mod competition, so you can be in another Whac-An-Admin game? Maybe. When are we going to have a Bust-A-Mod competition where we bust the mod who whacs an admin in a game? Q. Because you're in the Philippines, do you ever have problems with the cultural differences between there and the US or Canada (where most of the members are from)? Not really. I expect to see many differences but this is also the Internet so I am also seeing some Internet behavior, I guess. Q. Okay, time for some personal flavour: Favourite food? Favourite alcoholic drink? Favourite non-alcoholic drink? Favourite food: adobo Favourite alcoholic drink: Jack Daniel's Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Fit n right 4 seasons Q. What do you enjoy doing on CC that does NOT involve any official duties? And what games do you play besides CC? - Playing CC games if time permits. - Counterstrike and Starcraft 2 (but not really a hardcore gamer) Q. What do you think makes a good Multi Hunter? Levelheaded, follows what the evidence shows, does not get easily pressured or influenced by peers and does what is expected of the position. Q. What is one TeamCC position you think you'd never be able to handle and why? Let's just say, maybe in the other departments that I rarely go into. Q. What is one TeamCC position you think you'd like have, if it couldn't be C&A-related? Wishful thinking, maybe being a cartographer just because I admire how people make quality maps but I think what they do is a whole different world from where I am. Q. What kinds of maps do you think Conquer Club still needs? Maybe maps that are made particularly for team games, if possible? Q. How has CC affected you as a person - being the "Support Volunteer" and what have you? It made me see how different the people in my country are compared to the people in CC. Q. What do you think CC would be like if you and Andy swapped roles? Chaos. Q. Was Hyasri a "sock puppet"? More specifically, was he a fictional person introduced for the purpose of getting rid of the Flame Wars forum? He came out of nowhere, Flame Wars got removed, and then he disappeared. All within mere days. It's no wonder there've been speculations about him and I (MeDeFe) for one would like some details, I think most forumites would. All I can say is that he is a real person. Removing Flame Wars was not his primary concern as he really had plans to do a lot of stuff when he gets settled in. Things just didn't work out for him eventually. Q. Why did you do it? Whatever it is, I did not. Q. Do you get to polish lack's golden auto-mobile? No. Q. No interview is complete without a mention of SirSebstar. How would you like to mention hem? For SirSebstar, I see hem as a good moderator. Seriously. Q. When do you quit? Why? Between you and me... Q. What gives you pleasure if you look at the forums? It is always a pleasure to see some people who make sensible posts and not always trying to be cynical comedian. Q. Do you enjoy running the Live Chat Volunteer Appreciation Day events, or is it more of a hassle? I like seeing you all enjoy the live event everytime. Q. Describe yourself in a brief paragraph that is at least 100 words. No comment. I'm just a boring, simple, regular person. Q. Do you believe a notorious rule-breaker can ever redeem him or herself? If so, how do you think they should go about doing so? I would always like to believe that people can change for the better in real life. It can also be easy to promise anything. Unfortunately, some do not follow the rules until they receive that final disciplinary action or when it's too late. Some people will not listen until you let them realize that you will no longer tolerate their repeat violations. Some may support giving these people a chance but do not forget that there will also be support for the disciplinary measure that was given as well. It is hard for us to implement the rules if we always let good intentions or good excuses/promises to prevail or be granted some exemption as it becomes impossible to regulate people with bad intentions who will take advantage of a situation. Q. Name a hidden talent that you have that no one would suspect you have. None.
Hello again my friends, and welcome to your favorite part of the Newsletter, "War Games", where you can find information about CC Tournaments! In this issue, I have presented an analysis of
Game 10 Million , which is now in its second round. (It may be only one game, but it has enough players that it could easily qualify as a tournament, and it will last longer than many tournaments do!)
Sonicsteve presents
Join This? Or Not! , our regular look at tournaments currently recruiting. We have the third installment in
DaveH 's

Dukasaur Tournament Executive Game 10 Million by Dukasaur show
For CC's Ten Millionth Game, Samuelc812 designed a special map. Appropriate to the concept of gladiatorial battle-to-the-death, he chose the old Roman arena as his concept. This map will be used for many Battle Royales in the future, so you may want to have a good look at it. Samuelc812 has also promised to write a strategy guide for it before the 6th Anniversary events roll around! Remember during the 5th Anniversary Battle Royales, how some of us were asking for sequential Battle Royales, and others said it couldn't be done, that sequential Battle Royales would take forever? Here , for example. Well, we now have an answer. The Ten Millionth Game is a sequential Battle Royale with 50 players, and Round One took barely 15 days.Game 10000000 2011-11-09 20:44:01 - Game has been initialized 2011-11-25 10:10:13 - Incrementing game to round 2 Being Escalating, I suspect the killing will start before the end of Round 3. At that point, there will be quite a few people with 3 cards and quite a few others with 2 cards, which will make mid-turn cashes plausible, and someone will take a chance and pull the trigger. With the number of cards in play, once the killing starts it won't stop. I suspect the majority will see the beginning of Round 4, but very few will live to see Round 5. Given the 15 days that round 1 took, I therefore predict that the game will be over before New Years. This also gives us a decent estimate for how long most people take to get around to their turns: about 7.5 hours. Granted, it's a small sample size, and a non-typical sample of players, but within a fairly broad confidence interval I think it's a reasonable estimate. One of the reasons I've looked forward to this game is the incredible selection of famous people I'm getting a chance to play with. There are people I've interviewed for the newsletter, like Flow520 and ChrisBeerens ; people who have helped, mentored and taught me, like macbone , Leehar , and josko.ri ; people with whom I've fought brutal epic games, like mwaser ; tournament organisers and players whose tournaments I've played in or who have played in mine, like fuzzy316 , Enormastitz , gameplayer , djelebert , and mviola ; and even famous people I know only from their forum posts, like Incandenza . It's quite a field by rank. There is a full General (Aaarrrrggh ), a Brigadier (josko.ri ), no fewer than 6 Colonels, 19 Majors, and 12 Captains. There are only 4 Lieutenants including myself, and only 7 non-officers. The lowest-ranking player is Elmo9199 . (As a rough estimate, Elmo could rake in something between 2500 and 3000 points if he was to sweep the map.) On the regular CC Scoreboard I sit at the bottom of the top quintile, but in this game it's the diametric opposite: I'm at the top of the bottom quintile, a paltry 41st of 50. Since I had no idea how to approach this situation, I decided to watch and learn, and copycat those more experienced than myself. To this end, I started keeping a list of what people are doing.First round deployments: Hands down, the most popular deployment choice has been 1 on Audience, 2 on Gladiator. 35 of 50 players chose this pattern in round 1. The converse, 2 on Audience, 1 on Gladiator, was only chosen by six players, starting with askirby . Putting all their eggs in the arena basket, seven players chose to deploy all three troops on their Gladiator. The tiniest minority were those who put all 3 on the Audience: only mlmarcelo and dustin800 chose this option.Second round deployments: A quarter of the way through the second round, 1 on Audience and 2 on Gladiator remains the most popular choice, but it is no longer as lopsided as it was first round. 1A2G: 6 players 2A1G: 3 players 3G: 2 players 3A: 2 playersAttacks: The first attack was by LB Ninja , and he opened up a skirmish for Proximo:2011-11-12 23:16:24 - LB Ninja assaulted Gladiator - Proximo from Gladiator - Lucius and conquered it from askirby 2011-11-13 15:47:54 - Incandenza assaulted Gladiator - Proximo from Gladiator - Augustus and conquered it from LB Ninja 2011-11-14 12:03:17 - gameplayer assaulted Gladiator - Proximo from Gladiator - Decimus and conquered it from Incandenza 2011-11-14 12:19:27 - mviola assaulted Gladiator - Proximo from Gladiator - Verus and conquered it from gameplayer 2011-11-14 12:53:38 - mwaser assaulted Gladiator - Proximo from Gladiator - Cicero and conquered it from mviola
Gladiator Proximo must feel really special with so much interest in owning him! The first player to attack something other than Proximo was fuzzy316 , who opened up a card spot on Aisle 1:2011-11-17 02:40:14 - Fuzzy316 assaulted Aisle 1 from Audience - B16 and conquered it from neutral player
Since fuzzy blazed the trail, most people have been taking cards on Aisle 1 instead of risking their Gladiator reserve. Fuzzy paid dearly for being a pioneer and has been reduced to four troops. Note: I've just gone back and looked at the game. Although it's only been about 10 hours since I took my turn, quite a bit has changed. Fuzzy, as noted, has only four troops, askirby only has six, and NicholasBlkthrn only has two. I have to reconsider my prediction. I really thought nobody would attempt a kill until the second half of round 3; now I'm thinking there may be a kill in the second half of round 2. I won't cheat and go back and edit my prediction; let's let it stand and see how close it comes. Only 18 players have fewer than the maximum number of deployed troops, but there are 21 cards already in the game, and several unsuccessful attacks took place which means that a high percentage of players got cards without losing a troop. (I had originally hoped to keep track of failed attacks also, but since they are not preserved in the log, I would have to stay online 24/7 to watch the game and keep track.) This is one hell of a game; if you're not in it, you can still drop by and cheer on your favourite gladiatorial contestant!
Tournament Tips by DaveH show: inviting your players
Once your tournament is full; you have tournament rights; you have created the blank games and randomised your player list. Now you need to invite players to join their games. If there is one game per round, you can invite them easily enough, but it is less work for you to send them a personal message and let them join the games themselves. With several games per player, the pm saves a lot of additional work. For instance if you have 16 players, then you need 16 invitations or 8 pm's. If there are three games per pairing, then you either need to make 48 invitations or just 8 pm's. To keep it simple, let's firstly compose a pm for 1 game that allows players to join their game. Column B is the randomised player list and column C the RAND(0) function which was used to randomise the player list (and has changed its values once again!). The password (don't forget the password - as I did recently!) is in D2. Into column D are copied the game numbers - a tip here is that when you create the games you end up with numbers that are mostly in sequence. You can therefore copy the largest game number into the first game - say that is cell D4. You can then put formulae into the other cells that refer to cell D4 minus 1 (or 2 etc if the numbers are not quite sequential) and so on. The code in column E is:Code: Select all ="[to]"&D4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]"
This creates the code for a game invitation which can be copied into a pm sent (by BCC perhaps) to Player4 and Player2; View Game 1234567 (Auto-Join Game ) You can aso add a greeting message in your spreadsheet. "Welcome to my Fantastic First Tournament! We can now get under way and your first round game is as follows. Good Luck! ". Let's say you write this into cell G3 and change the code to:Code: Select all =G$3&"
[to]"&D4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]
"
Note that the tag puts the game information on the next line (which looks a bit better!). This then creates the following message and game information: Welcome to my Fantastic First Tournament! We can now get under way and your first round game is as follows. Good Luck! View Game 1234567 (Auto-Join Game ) OK - so now we can expand that for, say, three games:Click image to enlarge. The code is three concatenated formulae (i.e. 3 x single invites as above):Code: Select all ="[to]"&D4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]"&"; "&"[to]"&E4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]"&"; "&"[to]"&F4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]"
Note that you can cut and paste these as required, but remember that they only relate to the column and row numbers that I have specified in my examples, so you need to change them to suit your layout. OK, so this code translates into 3 game invites that can be copied into the player's pm; View Game 1234567 (Auto-Join Game ); View Game 1234566 (Auto-Join Game ); View Game 1234565 (Auto-Join Game ) As before, you can add a greeting. Also, to tidy up the formatting, you can add the tag;Code: Select all ="
[to]"&D4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]

[to]"&E4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]

[to]"&F4&" "&$D$2&"[/to]
"
This process is slightly different when you have team entries, but the basic process is the same. Now the invites are out, you just need to sit back - apart from checking that the players have all joined and, of course, keeping up with result reporting..... (These "tips" are ones that I have tried to make it a bit easier in managing my own tournaments. I am sure there are different and better methods than these, so please let me know. Any queries on the above I'll be glad to respond to!)

And now for our regular look at a selection of the tournaments in sign-ups: The newsletter isn't always fast enough to cover Speed tournaments, but I wanted to draw attention to The Speed League which will be taking place for 6 hours each Friday night for a 5 week season, wih two divisions to cater for different timezones. Week one has already taken place, but there is still a chance to accrue plenty of points (and have fun killing each other) by competing over the remaining 3 weeks of the season to earn a place in the play-offs or championship final. SoC Instructor ElricTheGreat is looking for plenty of people for his Elric's Stealer of Souls Tournament . Not surprisingly, this tournament features the SoC settings. One signup gets you into both halves of the tournament -- Terminator games on the Classic map and Standard games on the Canada map. At press time, there were still 72 slots open in the 216-player tournament. These are my picks, but if you don't like any of these go to the Create/Join a Tournament or Tournaments Tab and take a look at the many others waiting to be filled. If you're craving tourney action now, check out the Requests for Immediate Players section of the tournament forum. You can be playing very quickly after signing up as a reserve.
We are all so used to seeing
Victor Sullivan 's name associated as Newsletter Foundry Executive that it seems just plain weird to see anything else. Anything else other than his promotion to
Grand Poobah that is! Congrats Sully on the promotion! So now it is my fifteen minutes of fame. But as my dinghy is firmly attached to the ship, I am not afraid at all. I also want to acknowledge all the hard work and effort that has gone into this section before me and the tireless efforts of those beavering away behind the scenes today!! So from that high-flaluten beginning, let's get down to business. This issue sees
OliverFA delving into whether special game mechanics could provide new map opportunities,
koontz1973 talks about what you can do to help the map makers, I pursue that with a look at

thehippo8Foundry Executive Should every map be playable in every setting? by OliverFA show
Hello fellow CCers! This time I would like to discuss a bit about game settings and maps. As you know, one of the Foundry requirements for new maps is that they must be playable in every single setting. We have quite a lot of settings now. Singles, Doubles, Terminator, Assassin, 2 players, 8 players, Fog of War, Nuclear Spoils… Quite a big variety! Some settings are just a matter of flavour, like the initial placement of troops, while some other settings make for very different game, like Fog of War. This means that depending on the settings chosen, we can be playing very different games. Can every map adapt to each of those different types of games? In my opinion, the answer is no. Imagine that a mapmaker has a great idea for a 2 players map setting, like, let’s say, a map about a castle siege. One player will be besieging the castle and the other player will be defending the castle. You won’t find anything like that in the 200 maps catalogue. Yes, you can find castle maps and medieval maps, but nothing like a proper siege, with besieging objectives and with proper starting besieging positions. Isn’t that good? But the problem is that this idea needs to be expanded to accommodate 6 more players. Granted, the imaginative mapmaker will make a very good work and create something very close to the original idea. But if he could do a 2 players only map, then his map would be even better. Or let’s say that a mapmaker develops a map with a carefully balanced bonus system. Everything is so carefully calculated to keep the balance. But then the map is played with escalating spoils, and the bonus scheme loses all its sense. What if that map could ban escalating spoils? In fact, we already have a map that tried to nullify escalating spoils. Mogul City has army numbers and bonuses numbers that are a lot higher than usual. This has the effect to make escalating spoils less game changing. But what if the map could ban the escalating setting instead of having to implement a cheat to avoid it? In my opinion, limiting playable settings for a map would grant a higher degree of freedom to mapmakers, removing some restrictions that greatly burden some good ideas and resulting in more enjoyable games for everybody. Of course freedom must not be mistaken with laziness. Limiting playable settings in a map would not be a way to save the mapmaker from the effort of checking the map with this setting. It would be a way to enable the mapmaker to invest an extra effort in just a few selected settings. For that reason, the mapmaker should present a well written and documented explanation of why the map needs the limitation, and what would be achieved by allowing it. A resourceful mapmaker would have no problems explaining that. And in fact, a successful explanation would be an indication of the upcoming map quality. Imagine the endless possibilities that could be open… … A proper assassin map, in which the only way to win would be killing your designed objective. … A huge killer neutrals map, like a maze or a jungle, in which you can only cross through that jungle by holding a special bonus. This map would need no escalating spoils or the jungle could be crossed without needing that bonus. … A 1v1 map where there is no room for additional contenders. Such map would have all the territories carefully assigned at the beginning of the game. …or (why not?) a map where one player wins by killing his designated objective, another player wins by holding an objective, and the rest of the players win by normal means. For those reasons, I think that the possibility to limit some of the settings for new map if good reasons are given, would bring us more unique and enjoyable maps.
How to help mapmakers by koontz1973 show
How to help mapmakers. We all have one thing in common. That is the game. But where does the game come from. From the foundry of course. From the imaginations of map makers like gimil, DiM, natty_dread and isaiah40. These guys and gals go through the foundry at a blinding pace (for a snail) taking months to get the games you love into open play. But how can you help them? The answer is very simple and that is to get into the foundry and let them know your ideas on the maps they make. Getting into the foundry. This is the easy part. Just knock on the door and they may let you in, only after you have begged, wiped your feet, kissed their's and generally made a fool of yourselves. Just kidding, they are a friendly bunch and just love to see new people come into the foundry. In fact, they need you to come into the foundry. There are four main parts to the foundry where the layman (you) can help.Ideas - Everyday, people come here to post ideas for maps, some are great ideas like Four Corners while some are poor tic tac toe , and even the stupid gets a hearing here vomit . Draft - This is the area where some have a go at getting there idea made into a map. This is the area that you will see for the first time, a map makers idea on the screen and this is the easiest place to get your ideas onto the screen to. A good example of this is in the Mega USA map thread. People started asking for Alaska and Hawaii to be added, even though it was not on the USA map pack. They are there now. Main foundry - A place where games are made. This forum is split into two but moulded into one. Games and graphics. Have a problem with both, speak up now or you may end up playing on a map that is sub par. Final Forge - Gets the most visits as this is where games get to be played for the first time in beta. Have a problem with an aspect of the map, speak now of forever hold your piece, as after this, nothing gets done. How can you help? This is the simplest thing in the world to do. Leave your opinions on the maps at the various stages. But be careful with what you write, some of it may come across as negative. Negative criticism means voicing an objection to something only with the purpose of showing that it is simply wrong, false, mistaken, nonsensical, objectionable, disreputable. Negative criticism is also often interpreted as an attack against a person.
Critic wrote: The woods looks a bit like bushes, and not very pretty bushes.
Critic wrote: I find them awful and absolutely not up to par with the rest of the map.
What can be just as bad is positive comments like this...Critic wrote: I love it.
Critic wrote: nice map
The way to go about giving any feedback to a map makers that you feel is to go down this route.Constructive criticism aims to show that the intent or purpose of something is better served by an alternative approach. In this case, criticism is not necessarily deemed wrong, and its purpose is respected; rather, it is claimed that the same goal could be better achieved via a different route.
Critic wrote: As for forests.... I've had to do dozens of designs on different impassables on some maps. Current forests are better than the previous ones, but they have this kind of plastic feel to them, which doesn't really seem too forest-y to me.
The difference between this feedback on the forests and the negative criticism the same map maker received for his work was this...Mapmaker wrote: I refuse to change them. They are good woods.
Mapmaker wrote: The plastic look phrase I can work with and try to sort out.
Mapmaker wrote: Made the woods darker and they do look less fake.
Which style of criticism do you think that got this stubborn map maker to redo his work?Click image to enlarge. Map makers always respond positively to posts that are helpful and clear. The thread is not a place for flaming or cantankerousness. Remember these hard workers are doing you a service and its always easier to catch bees with honey than with vinegar. When is the best time to give feedback? Any time, but the earlier the better. Leaving it to the end means we have maps that cause this reaction, but please don't leave things to the end and say stuff like ...about Europe wrote: Who created the map? Who gave him the right to give that name to the area of Former Yugoslavia??? Please, someone correct this BIG mistake, name it Yugoslavia, or something, and don't piss off again people from those other five nations!!
or thisabout England wrote: I just took a look at this map again. It looks like shit, how did it ever get out of the foundry?
Reactions like this help no one in the long run, so now we have at least 2 maps that people dislike the look of. If only, they had said something earlier. Enjoy your maps, love your maps, either way, they are your maps to play the game on. Would you rather take 5 minutes to say something or just sit back and complain later that you cannot see the blue army numbers or that legend is unreadable? Happy gaming everyone, whatever map takes your fancy.
Map-in-focus: Death Race Mojave by thehippo8 show
Koontz1973 makes a good point in his article,
How to Help Mapmakers , in which he reminded you all that you have your place in this process of map creation. It’s a really important role, and I hope you take what he says to heart. Maps can’t happen without your involvement. True enough, a map can stall in the wings for an apparent lack of interest. But maybe you didn’t realise that politely sitting back and leaving the decisions for
“those in the know” or just
“someone else” means that no-one gets to hear your opinion. But what you think is really really really important so please, let’s be hearing from you!!
One map that needs your immediate attention is: Death Race Mojave . Click image to enlarge. The basic premise is a map based on the movies the Death Race 1 (a remake of Death Race 2000 ) and the imaginatively titled Death Race 2 . The storyline in Death Race 1 is:In 2012, amid economic chaos and high unemployment, Americans watch by the millions as criminals with life sentences race armoured cars on Terminal Island. Two-thirds of the combatants die but the winner may earn his freedom. On the day he loses his job, steelworker Jensen Ames is arrested for his wife's murder. Sent to Terminal Island, he's offered an out by the steely and manipulative Warden Hennessey - race as the popular mask-wearing (but now dead) champion, Frankenstein, or rot in prison. Jensen makes the bargain. As the three-stage race approaches, he realizes that the whole thing may be a set up - can an anonymous man behind a mask get revenge and win his release?
One astute commentator noted:As many comic books, games and original movies are being remade, director Paul W.S. Anderson is not new to those remakes. He adapted Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat and AVP. Now he remakes the original movie Death race 2000. Not surprising. While watching this movie, I realised that he still has his habit of making games plots. Death race plot is quite similar to those racing or survival games plot. It reminds me of DOA (Dead Or Alive) which Paul produce.
The remake is a fast-paced action movie stamped out for the princely sum of US$45,000,000!! The sequel is more of the same, which is excellent if that’s your gig!! So this map brings all this to life as only Conquer Club can do. On the one hand you have the race going on where the cars can drive, crash into each other or assault backwards. On the other hand you have the guards and snipers that attack the drivers and need to be taken out and provide more troops and complexity. As natty_dread said:I can see a good backstory in a map like this, but the trick is integrating that story with the graphics & gameplay of the map in such a way that it becomes obvious what the deal is, without having to explain everything explicitly.
There was a brief discussion on gameplay before the thread went dead and dumped to the recycling bin. But thankfully grifftron did an update and away we go again. The ever astute Industrial Helix noted:After reviewing this map a couple of times, I can't seem to make heads or tails of the gameplay, but the graphics are pretty awesome. You should try putting some numbers on the map indicating where the starting positions are and where there might be neutrals.
But that is perhaps a matter of opinion given greenoaks suggested:Gameplay at first is difficult to follow as there is so much going on, but then so does Stalingrad.
There is always an interesting correlation between obviousness and directions. Victor Sullivan provided valuable feedback with:It took me a bit to wrap my mind around the gameplay. For the most part, I think it works. The legend could have a bit more clarity: the "Warden borders armoury" should go with all of the Warden stuff in that box with the badge, and it took me awhile to understand the Sniper diagram. I think you should use arrows there instead of "2 DEEP" and "3 DEEP". As far as gameplay goes, there doesn't seem to be much incentive to get out on the track, so I think a +1 per 2 or 3 (I prefer 2, myself) track pieces with a car would do well, then eliminate the +2 per 3 with the Snipers, as I think their bombarding abilities are good enough, since they would be good tools for cards.
Which resulted in another update of the map integrating these ideas. The remainder of the log involves some tweaking but the concept of the game was solid from that point on and it is now just waiting for a gameplay stamp. Maert has pointed out some graphics issues, but frankly the map is looking great and those shouldn’t take much to resolve. So, here’s your chance people to put your oars worth in because this map looks destined to hit Beta really soon!

This edition for clans we have Alt musing on the recent spate of upsets in the clan scene (and they are so many that it's tough to call some clans underdogs any longer as they pack some big punches),
Skillfusniper33 joins our dispatch team with an in-depth look at the 2nd stanza of the exciting Newcomers Cup competition and Bogan somehow avoids mentioning his clans close loss to Tofu in his rum-filled contemplation of that inexplicable element that can often split the die in tense clan matches. We have been using more and more abbreviations and acronyms of clan names lately, so remember to peruse the
[Official] List of Clans to decipher any quandary's you may be in.
Elsewhere in clan news, the Semi-finals of the Conquerors Cup reach their conclusion as the 2 clans that were split by only 1 game in a previous 80 game encounter, and tied each other in this 60 game edition, are again 3-3 near the end of their tiebreak. Looks like after months of agonizing, the outcome now just rests on
Game 10077607 where the monkies have seemed to finally taken the lead.
Methinks all this headache could have been avoided if they just played 1 game at the beginning, or better yet a coin toss since that may be the only way to ever split these quite brilliant clans that are the stalwarts of elite gaming on CC. Even if TSM do win this World 2.1 showdown, there are 153 games highly competitive clan games between TSM and Thota, and quite simply nothing separates them.
We also have the ACC semi's between Memento Mori/Dynasty and Bofm/Foed, as well as the RST finals between Bofm/Empire commencing soon, while Foed leads the standings in the Random League as the only team still unbeaten after 4 matches, so there's still a lot of action exhibiting the competitiveness of Clans. More news on the latest developments can also always be found in
Active Challenges .
Also note that there is now an Open Application Callout for Clan Directors, so pm
Masli if you'd like to contribute to the development of clans going forward, while the CLA is expected to release the format of it's eagerly anticipated Clan League 4 soon.
Leehar Clan Executive Upsetting Trend by Alt1978 show
In the clan world, there has been a predominant perception that there are three classes of clans…the super elite, the strong tried and true, and then the pitiable rest. Movement through the castes was to flow at the rate of molasses on a flat plane…taking ages to move from one caste to another. In the clan world over the past month, a wave of upsets has swept over the scene challenging the age old paradigm. The super elite are still elite, but some up and coming new clans as well as written off forgotten clans are taking swings at the upper middle…and landing punches to close the gap between new and “tried and true”. Momento Mori, consistently ranked lowly by every conceived system has led the revival. Notching a win in a tie-breaker over the highly touted Wild Geese, MM started finding its groove. Then in a second round match up in the All Comers Cup M&M authoritatively took down long-standing stalwart of the top ten Nemesis 30-16 in convincing fashion, winning 8 of 10 Nemesis home trips/quads games. Other second round matches of the All Comer’s Cup also witnessed significant upsets by new clans with the Grenadier Guards knocking off the Angels of Death 25-24 and the Pig Renters defeating the Agents of Chaos 28-22. The Pack continued that upset trend…clawing out a win over the #6 ranked Immortal Assassins and remaining undefeated since their inception less than a year ago. There was much debate about whether the Pack as a new clan belonged in the top ten…it’s difficult to imagine they don’t have a place there once this one goes final. And then even ACC round 3 had it's own upset in the form of long-running Dynasty taking the scalp of perennial top 10 and even longtime top 5 clan Legends of War 29-21. So what do these upsets mean? Is the string of upsets an aberration? If not…why is the gap between new clans and clans not ranked in the top 5 closing? Like any complex question…lots of factors figure in. It would be remiss not to look at the clans who have fallen and not at least consider the factor that war fatigue has played. Schedules involve CC Cup concurrent with Clan League, usually combined with a marquee match-up against another top clan…these clans have been in at least one trench constantly for over a year. They have largely attained their status by being active against the best. It is tough to sustain the same intensity in war as an up and coming new clan who has everything to prove and nothing to lose. While war fatigue surely plays a part, there was also a time when such upsets would not have been thought possible fatigued or not. The answer to these upsets may be found by considering the growth of the tournament scene. The success, competitiveness, and intensity of the tournament scene have greatly aided new clans by cultivating skills in a wide array of prospective recruits. Players new to the clan scene often come over after spending time on the tournament circuit. They come in battle tested, with a ton of experience on a wide range of maps. Tournament games (unless it’s perhaps the finals) don’t carry quite the same weight as a clan game in terms of intensity, but its close. Making the transition from winning tournaments to winning clan games is a lot smoother than transitioning from a bunch of speed games to the clan scene. One Step Ahead, The Fantastic Four Skins, and the Pig Renters have all had an incredible amount of success fielding players from this arena and competing at very high levels against upper tier clans. In addition to the tournament scene producing a pool of highly skilled players…the data available to new clans has grown exponentially as more and more wars are logged and put down in the books. Through the clan director’s guidance, war thread op’s contain the games played and the results…providing an enormous database of how to guides for new clans. Flipping through KORT or THOTA war threads and game logs is a university level course in how to play tough boards well and it doesn’t cost you any points to get the experience. The upsetting trend has been running rampant. It will be interesting to see if the “tried and true” caste of clans will beat down this rebellion, or if it is time for the perception of new and lower ranked clans to change. And with the first Newcomers Cup catapulting some of these clans to their upset successes, there could very well be more to come with the commencement of NC2
Newcomers Cup 2 by Skillfusniper33 (IGNI) show
Benga has returned with the second edition of the Newcomers Cup (NC2), which has the purpose of helping some of the newer clans face off against each other, and gain a little more experience in running a war thread, being in charge of games, as well as to prepare them for The Conquers Cup. To qualify for the NC2 you had to be ranked below 21 on Algorithm of 400 12 clans decided to enter into the tournament, and are in order of rank: 1.Kill On Arrival - KOA 2.Always kicking A$$ - AKA 3.Grim Reapers - GR 4.Dynasty - DYN 5.The New Crusade - TNC 6.1st Regiment - 1RFG 7.One Step Ahead - OSA 8.The Headless Horsemen - HH 9.Manifest Destiny - MD 10.Igni Ferroque - IGNI 11.Magnificent Bastards - MB 12.Les Hussards du Dragon - LHDD The bracket currently looks like this:Click image to enlarge. Each war is currently under way and all games are out, so results should be staggering in very shortlyHH vs MD - 20-19 This is a repeat war on a match that just got completed, so Manifest Destiny is out for revenge. But most predictions still have this game going over to The Headless Horseman. HH is still a very new clan that has completed only the one war which was their win over MD, while MD is a slightly older clan that is still looking for their first victory after losses against HH and GR. The outcome is looking to be a close finale, after it has been neck and neck the whole way. HH have taken a late lead, but the result now rests on their 2 home Das Schloss games where they have been hampered by an unfortunate deadbeat. Therefore the Trips game seems already decided for MD, but Game 10021154 may just allow MD to pip the tie at the finishing lineTNC vs LHDD - 15-15 tie This war was one of the most intriguing round 1 match up since LHDD is a brand new clan vs a clan that seems to be playing against every other clan on CC. But no one was doubting LHDD's potential. This was the one match people were struggling to pick the winners of. I would even say one of the most feared 1st round match ups. But no matter who wins, everyone thought this would be a pretty close 1st round games. TNC has been up against just about every clan in CC that isn't considered an elite clan, and while it took them a while to get their first win, they are now moving pretty well and taking advantage of everything they learned early on, while LHDD has just won their first and only completed war vs DBC. The games are as close as the scoreline suggests, however most of the remaining games are on LHDD's home court which could still affect the outcomeOSA vs IGNI - 13-18 IGNI leading Many have underestimated IGNI's skill and level, and have them falling to OSA as they may not realize that IGNI is an old clan for the most part, just with a new name, and new leadership that has taken place in the past 8 months. While OSA is a very skilled and talented clan who in recent times has had very good wars vs BOFM, 1RFG, AKA, DBC, WG (formerly L4D) and TNC. So while this may seem like a very well experienced clan is taking on a newer clan, it is still a very good war for both sides. As currently Igni is leading by a relatively significant margin, and with only 3 more games until victory, they should be favourites down the final stretch (especially as the remaining games are largely on their home set).1RFG vs MB - 23-10 1RFG leading, won the war 1RFG is a pretty consensus win with all the pundit picks 1RFG to end up with this win. MB is still looking for their first win, but are improving gradually after each war, while 1RFG has been around a while and been facing off vs many clans which include RA, AKA, TO, TFFS, TNC, GR and have gained some valuable momentum. With this match-up therefore the first to be decided, 1RFG will be facing off against GR in the next round Now for the clans not participating in Round 1 as they received bye's since they were the highest ranked clans to enter the competition. KOA has been very busy with recruiting and improving their roster, while competing in just about every tournament in the clan community, and while being very active in their wars, with many wars completed against the likes of IGNI, GR, TO (Team Ohio), SOH (Spelenkurs of Hell), PACK and DYN. AKA has been doing well vs many clans of similar skill and ability. They have completed wars vs LOTZ, PACK, RA, TNC, PIGS, OSA, AFOS, VDLL and an extremely close encounter against BoFM DYN has been around for a while, and probably is one of the better set of skilled players that have spent a lot of time training and reviewing their games. They have completed wars vs OSA, BS, G1, KOA, KARMA, AOC, IA, FOED, NEM, GR as well as a narrow victory against perennial top 10 LoW in the ACC GR is the oldest clan among all of these new boys, with around 3 years of experience under their belt. They haven't had as much success with everything they have done, but are still a very good challenge for any clan. They have completed wars vs just about every clan on CC and definitely have the most experience in the clan community compared to every other clan in this competition. They aren't a clan to be underestimated in terms of skill level, even though they seem to be under ranked compared to the rest. All in all, these clans are looking for good solid wars, as well as being able to grow as a group though out this tournament. Each clan has it's own strengths and weaknesses that they need to figure out before they can end up facing up against some of the stronger clans in the clan community. But the real question is which of these clans will be the next "elite" clan in the making? Round 2 of NC2 will be starting in late November to early December depending on how fast everything is finished up. Good Luck to all clans participating.
Just Lucky by Bogan's God (Bofm) show
Greetings from the Pirate war desk, aka the saloon bar. After reading Master Fenrir 's most excellent musings on clan wars, have been doing some thinking. Damn it makes my head hurt. Damn your eyes fenrir. How much of clan wars is really down to luck? Getting to go first, Opponent's computer going into the shop or Good dice at the right moment. The list could go on. The Pirates have just beat The Legion+++ 3 times in swift succession. A clan war , ACC 3rd round , and the Random Suicide Tourney /multi clan event. All of the challenges were close, we did not open up a can of whup arse and trample them. All three of the encounters could have very easily gone Legions way. We at BoFM were very lucky. Some of the members of Legion are amongst my oldest friends on CC. Concrete, culs(have named the tactic of dropping 2 stacks everywhere after culs, so in game chat I suggest culsing the buggers and my teammates will know to spread out with 2 stacks!), snowgun, tammy, the list could go on. Much respect to all those in Legion for not getting bitter and for being good sports at all times. Why did BoFM prevail in all 3 outings? I can't say for sure. Much as I would like to think that we are just simply that good , I know that not to be true. We lost against OSA(well played Benga and crew), our first lost in 10+ clan wars. I know it wasn't map selection, as we got completely owned on a few maps that normally we would win easily. We don't give up even if things are looking grim, but same for the legion. The Legion had one player that missed a few turns, but that didn't have enough impact to decide the outcome, and also happened in games that we already had pretty much in the bag. We have a similar number of active players. Clan average BoFM - Points 2202, Games played 3612, Win percentage 49, medals 42. Clan average The Legion - Points 1961, Games played 6133, Win percentage 46, medals 48. So clans are very similar, The Legion boasts more experienced players and the Pirates have a slightly higher average rank. We all know that rank doesn't equate to skill (Trust me on that, I'm a better player now then when I was a brig or a general). I've been on the site for a bit over 3 and a half years, and been a clan leader for over 2 years. Maybe I'm a slow learner but I can't exactly put my finger on why we beat The Legion 3 times in a row, I will just have to chalk it up to luck. Wishing The Legion good luck against AKA. Would be interested in finding out what the community thinks Must get stuck into the rum properly now, ship inspection coming up, not a job for a sober officer.
