This section helps you the member gain a little more understanding about Team CC and parts of the site that you may be unclear with. Note: The views expressed in the article are solely those of the writer and do not necessarily express the views of the other moderators or administrators. a.sub wrote: should Usergroup leaders have more power in their threads? I'm assuming you meant "forums" rather than threads, so I'll go with that. Of course usergroup leaders should be able to have more tools to manage their forums in an efficient manner, but the options are not currently given because of administrative concerns. There is information available when you have the ability to moderate a forum that the administrators do not want such a large group of people to have access to. Once a MOD is built to change the forum software, we'll be a step closer to getting that access. As far as I'm concerned, a clan can do nearly whatever they want to allow or deny users. Obviously restrictions based on race or racism are not allowed, but I see no problem with restricting users based on their age (if, of course, you can reasonably prove it). A lot of clans want to make sure their members are respectable members of the public boards, so if someone comes across as a young person in their posts, then they should be able to deny clan access if they wish. Every clan and usergroup on the site is considered a private forum, so they shouldn't be forced to approve any random person. As far as posting flames and pornography go, it would probably be best to keep them off the site. There is a lot of freedom with having the private forums (I know I've posted several rants in them that I would not have posted publicly.), but they are still part of this site. The admins don't go around reading the private forums just because they have access, but if someone alerts them to something illegal (especially if it was pornography), then I'm sure they would come take a peek. There are plenty of websites and forums available for those things, so why bring them here? If you post them in your private forum, don't get upset if an admin finds out and bans you. I will answer more questions next issue. If you would like to submit a question, please post them in the Ask A Mod thread. ~Night Strike
show: Clan News
For many players on CC who have just started school, so too has the clan league has just started. Now entering into Week2, all clans are now active in games, some for the first time. This Season has some interesting stories that will play out in time, only time will tell where all the clans will end up. The Clan Directors have been quite busy with some early Minor issues and a Major issue. Several clans have put too many players into some games, resulting in defaults. One clan contact was almost late in filling a game where he was in it, and another top rated clan was bold enough to send a cook to a game, which seemed to confuse and confound the opposing clan. Interesting strategy or merely an accident? The Major issue dealt with was the breakup of Sky Force with a significant number of players leaving and eventually forming A Fistful of Sixes, another competitive clan. Sky Force determined they would be unable to continue on in the clan league, having lost the leader, and ended up being replaced by Nemesis as TOFU declined an invitation to battle Nemesis in a play-in battle. A great show of sportsmanship on TOFU's part. The Clan League Pool submissions will be extended another week, so those that have entered, please edit for the promotion of Nemesis and the late addition of Divine Domination.
show: Interview with Timminz
Q: Hey Timminz A: Hi Sammy! Q: What is with your avatar? It's freaky. A: It's a pretty kick-ass, psychedelic gif. There are all kinds of great images where i found it, you can PM me if you would like the link to the site. Q: Was it really good timing to agree to an interview on the week you're getting married? Condolences from all of us on that. A: I wouldn't say it was especially good, or bad, timing. We had an amazing weekend, but have been back to the real world for almost a week now. Q: We all know you are Canadian... And now those reading this interview know you're just getting married... But I would like to know is if being married increases the size of your welfare check? Well? Does it? A: Yes. And how did you know I called my penis a welfare check? Q: How did winning Game 397227 make you feel? A: Uh, good...? Q: What else makes you feel, uh, good…? A: Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. In that order. Q: What have been some of the personal high points and low points of your career time here at Conquer Club? A: Pulling out a difficult win usually tops the list of high points. As far as low points go, there are 2 that really stick in my mind (and neither of them are my bullshit bans). The first was when I found out that a mod, whom I may not have always agreed with, but whom I respected, and considered a friend, is racist. The second was the last time the founder of my clan posted in our forum. Not because it was a shame to see him go, but because of the way he completed the transformation from kind, trusted, and respected, to bitter, hateful, and overly self-important. Seeing the true colours of people you thought were respectable is a let-down twice over. Once because you lose your respect for a former friend, and twice because it makes you feel stupid for being blind to their true selves for so long. Q: What is your opinion on reaching conquerer as it stands today? Since you mostly play seq games, how is it you find all these freestyle junkies taking over the scoreboard? A: I don't really have an opinion on that anymore. Early in my CC career, I looked at the position of conqueror as a high achievement. Then I realized the kind of work it takes to reach such a level, and became a bit jaded by the realization. Now I have come to accept that climbing the scoreboard is a very different game than the one(s) I am here to play. I won't take anything away from the achievement, as I know it's not an easy thing to accomplish. It just doesn't reflect what I once thought it did, or the types of skills I personally respect the most. Q: Are you more popular now on CC than you were in high school? A: Yes and no. I would say I'm more well-known on CC than I was in high school, but I don't think anyone in my high school hated (or at least, had a strong dislike for) me, whereas I know for a fact that there is more than one person on CC who feels in such a way. Q: What's the best film of 2009? A: One that I have not seen yet, most likely. Of the few I've been to see, so far this year, I would say that Star Trek was my favourite. Up, in 3D, was pretty great too. Q: 6 month ban Tim, your thoughts? A: I don't look forward to it. Q: How did you come to be a part of Generation One? A: A good (real life) friend of mine, Gozar , told me that he, and a couple other users were starting a clan, and asked if I wanted to join. I was at the point in my CC career that I was thinking about joining a clan already, so I said, "Of course". Q: Best friend on CC? A: Well, the best man from my wedding plays, but we don't really interact online. Q: Please share your thoughts on your 24hr ban recently? A: Well, the most recent one was the only one I feel that I actually deserved, but ironically, it was the only one where I was banned for something that I did not intend to do. For those who don't know already, I posted a couple images I found on the site I linked above, but the site doesn't like people linking directly from their page, so they substituted the images with something else, much more um, graphic. The funniest part, to me, was that the mod who banned me did not have authority to edit my post, and so when I awoke the next morning, the offending image was still there. I tried to edit it out, but couldn't, as I was forum banned. Q: How old is your wife/wife to be if your profile says you're 6 years old? A: "you're" Anyway, that question makes very little sense. The age of my wife has nothing to do with my CC profile. You may as well have asked me, "How tall is someone, if they're watching TV?" Q: If you could change 1 thing on Conquer Club right now, what would it be? A: I would bring back the old Classic map. Barring that, I would just get rid of Classic Shapes. Q: If there was 1 game feature that you could implement right now, what would it be? A: 1v1 team games, hands down. Q: Thanks for your time Timminz A: that's not a question.
show: A Newts Tale
The Angel of Death is My Friend (or) Why Do These Dice Suck!!! Right. Two months into to this thing called Crazy Club and I’ve finally figured it out. Friends, enemies, and those of you in the great unwashed masses of whom I have no opinion (yet), I have figured out the dice. It's all about the Voodoo Majicks people. Here is how it breaks down: Elf has armies x, y, and z (pronounced zed, people) on territories V45, P26 and QQ2. The enemy has an above average stack with some tanks, a few plasma canons and a 1942 vintage (but relatively useless) twin prop Spitfire. I put my little elf-brain to work and try to work out the math and end up with something nutty like this:Pr (X > x ) = exp(x /v ) I blink a few times. I scratch my head. Whoa. How did I come up with a standardization formula for basic probalility?!?! I'm just not that smart. All I wanted to do know was what the odds were that I’ll rule the civilized world! I look to BOB. As a NP (Newt Player) BOB gives me a headache. “Don’t worry about it Elf” I tell myself. “The math must be in your favor here pal! ATTACK!” 24 v 1. I lose 7 straight. 7 highly trained and elite warriors equipped with state of the art military hardware went to their ignominious end at the hand of an elderly farmer with a dull shovel. I borrowed his shovel to dig their unmarked and dishonorable graves. Idiots. Dying like that. I couldn’t even cross the street let alone attack his Barbarian Horde. What losers my guys were. As a Newt I had some immediate questions about the dice (Ooooh. I can see your nostrils flare from here!). Searching the boards I found that many of you have questions too! Here is the wisdom I have gathered about dice. There are four options.Option One : The outcome of the role of the dice is chaotic and completely (or virtually in this case) random which can really mess up your day if you play at CC. I don’t like option one. It hurts my feelings pretty much regularly. It’s too much like dating: frightening and expensive and carries the potential that I’ll end up weeping, broke and all alone… again.Option Two : The dice are Divinely ordered and only the Divine knows the outcome of any given roll. Hmm. Interesting but vague. Are there certain offerings or sacrifices that one can make to influence the Divine of the Roll? I’m tempted to go with this one but it makes me nervous. Too open ended. There is the possibility of winning games but also pretty good odds I’ll end up in eternal service to some whack job. I’ve already got a job like that.Option Three : The site manipulates the dice. I love this option. I smile when I hear about it. If a player has really ticked off the Site Creator(s) to that extent it is time to get a different hobby, ‘cause you are done pal. Is it possible? Well. It is possible I’m 6’5’’ and ready to contend for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship®) title. It is possible. Probable? I’ll let you figure that out. But I'll give you a hint: I'm called Elf . Of course the Moon Landing never took place either…Option Four : The dice can be influenced by your P ersonal E nergy (© 2009 by Watch The Elf Die Industries ). This means that the more sharply focused your will is on a positive and beneficial outcome the more likely you will get rolls in your favor. Sweet. I believe this option. This I can manage! I can focus! I can yearn! I can take charge of my own destiny!!! So my mom was right all along: “Elf… you’ve just got to try harder!” So don’t take it personally if we are in a game together and you see veins throbbing on my temples. I’m just focusing my P ersonal E nergy (© 2009 by Watch The Elf Die Industries ) in the direction of the dice. Gotta love Voodoo Majick!!! Of course, there is always the option of learning how to play better in spite of chaotic dice. I guess that’s an option as well. Maybe the Elf should give that a try? Nah. I've decided to put together a Gris Gris (Mojo) Bag. It will either increase my P ersonal E nergy (© 2009 by Watch The Elf Die Industries ) or give me a rash. But I figure what can it hurt? ~scratches~ Now, where did I leave that old goats foot… Keep up the good work people and see ya in the pit brothers and sisters! Elf.
