Include default neutral values in map images

Postby agentcom on Mon Apr 09, 2012 1:56 pm

Include the default neutral values on the map images in the following places:
  • The Map's page in the foundry
  • The map image accessible through Game lists, Game Finder and Start Game screens

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • More than once, I looked through the map foundry to find out how many neutrals I'd be facing if I made an attack in a foggy game. Unless you parse through the XML, this information most of the time is not there. Instead, I have to hope that there is a sunny game that hasn't progressed too far that I can find through Game Finder.
  • If you're thinking that this isn't really a big deal, go play an AoR game and see how many different neutral values there are for territories out there beyond the few you can see in a foggy game.

Good suggestion. Note that having this information also would help new players on some maps, who are trying to read the log in a fog game to find out what's happening.

Thanks for all the support guys! As it has been a month since the last comment, I figured I'd bump this.

Another month goes by, so I thought I'd bring this back to the top. I hate having to go look through Game Finder results to find a sunny game in which the territory I want to see hasn't been attacked by anyone.

I support this suggestion as well. Perhaps you could talk to the foundry people as well, because that's where a part of this suggestion is gonna take place anyway. Not sure if it would help, but you can always try.

I also support this suggestion. It would just be another two images to load (one large, one small) for the gallery, and would let people get a jump on trying to learn maps that are best played foggy.

What about maps like Arms Race where there are a fair amount of neutrals at the start but they aren't always the same? Or is this only for territories that are ALWAYS neutral.
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.

All in for it. It could be included in the map's image.

In any map, any region can be neutral, therefore it should be put for all the regions, no matter if they start neutral or not

This is a no brainer. I have often clicked on maps and looked at them and thought "what idiot decided to leave all of those spots blank?"

Yeah, I don't think it really requires that much work. Out of the two places that I suggested the information be (the foundry AND the clickable map image from various screens on this site), I actually would prefer it be in the clickable map images, if it's only going to be in one place.

The advantage to this is that it really shouldn't require any additional work on the mapmaker's part. It could be coded from the XML. I can't imagine that this would be a very hard thing to do, given that the site retrieves this information in every game played.

I definitely support this suggestion. That information will be helpful for anyone new to a map who wants to learn it.
