Family and friends.

Postby Selucid Empire on Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:20 pm

Hi... I thought I'd ask about playing with my family here.

I'm Theresa, (Selucid Empire) and my sister (I'll let her give her name if she wants to) have played risk a few times in school and with friends on a few friday nights and holidays and time off school but a friend of ours told us about this site and said it would be perfect for us because it saved our moves. He said we could move whenever we wanted within a 24 hour period, the board didn't have to be set up and there was never a sore loser who could sneeze and send the pieces flying clear off the board forcing everyone to start over lol.

So I thought I'd ask / announce here that myself and my sister are joining, I've spent the last half-hour-ish reading over the strategy page. The reason I'm bringing this up here is that I've never played a team game before. The only games I've ever played were "everyone for themselves" games. With my sister getting an account here and stuff we might play some team games if we get interested in them but for now I just want to play some standard games.

I just figured I should get feedback here because I've read a cheating and abuse thread to see what was considered cheating and I wanted to clear the air ahead of time. So just so I understand...

If I play a game against my sister and others:

1) If I engage in a truce with her or someone else there is a place in game chat to announce it.

2) If I make a proposition to my sister against a game leader or an immediate threat, I have to discuss everything in this "game chat" and get her response in the game chat so that everyone knows the diplomacy that is going on as though we were all playing in a room together.

3) The moves I make are to help me... I don't make moves to help my sister win and I don't make moves to cripple my sister like some family feud. I do what I can do to win. (I mainly ask this because I would want to be upfront. I would announce that myself and my sister are in a game together and in making that announcement, I wouldn't want people to say: "Well... you have to attack her now or you're a cheater" or "If you attack me instead of her... you're a cheater.") So as much as announcing the family ties at the beginning might convince others to team against us anyway out of skepticism, I'd choose that over people thinking: "why did they hide that they were family?" so if we play together, we'll announce in chat that that we are sisters and see where the game goes from there.

Is that enough or is there more I should do? I think this falls under the rules... no multiple accounts and no secret alliances. I don't take "no secret alliances" to mean "no alliances". If I want to negociate a deal with someone to help my positioning, I can try it... as long as everyone sees me make the offer is that it?

Thanks.

What you've outlined in your post are great steps to take against being accused of any secret diplomacy. Conduct any alliance business in game chat, and you should be fine.

If you'd like to further take even more steps to protect against being accused of secret diplomacy, you can consider posting your games in the Callouts Forum and explaining that you and your family member are in a game together, just so people know what they are getting into even more so.

Just play against your family member as if they were any other user on the site, and things will be golden bananas. :)

well first off let me say that someone is going to report you as cheater, plain and simple, give them 5 mins and once you beat them they will report you. Dont get offended its just the lower 1% of CC that does so.

secondly, this is a good thing to post, it save you, CC, and the mods time in the process, however you should post it in the Cheating and abuse forum. No worries one of our helpful mods will guide it there.

thirdly, yes you can have truces if announced, but if you truce up with a buddy too much and at retarded times (say the first round ) it wont end well for you. the basic though process here is simple, pretend you know NOBODY in the game. And for the record, the Mods here are very good at telling between cheaters and people who just saw an opportunity. just play fair and nothing will happen to you.

fourthly, wanna play a 3 player game with your sis? PM me what settings and map you want and ill make a game with a password for ya. just to get points i mean show you that CC is awesome
hahaha but seriously want a game?

Hi everyone. I'm Jasmine. I guess since I'm the 2nd sister to appear I'm stuck being the "little sis" of the pair. Theresa asked all the questions I was wondering too. I do have to admit, it'll be funny typing everything as though we were talking about it. I'm so used to just speaking out thoughts in a group of people hehe. This should be fun. I'm a little crazy like that and will type out everything I say to her. Might as well yeah?

May the rabid bunnies take over the world! lolz.

So... what are we doing? Are we going to play a game A.Sub? (Theresa's here reading a book behind me saying: "Let me know what he says... there are hundreds of pages of games to join... Find out where we'll find him.")

Ok... so I understand, I can comment on my sister's games? But I tried to find a fog game to see if I could see the board and I picked a random "active" fog game and saw only ?s all over the screen. I suppose that's good because then viewers can't give information to other players.

I can also comment on completed games? How many people can comment on a game? No limit? She's started playing a portugal map game before leaving the house for a sleepover (She tried to join others but could only join 4 games, when I checked I could only join 4 games too so I can't join anymore until a game is completed is that right?)

you can comment on her games all you want, in fact feel free to call her a loser on one ;) lol

infinite ppl can comment on a game, in fact go look at games with numbers like 314159, there are a bunch of ppl commenting lol

because you are a free player (as i was less than a week ago) you max out at four games, cant play speed games and cant make private games (you can join them). the price for this is a mere $25 a year so it worth it imo

any other questions? :)

Are there really tournaments that a non-premium member can win to become a premium member? Who puts up the cash to fund the winner in those cases?

(hehe, so many questions, so little time, the more I read, the more I have to ask. I wonder if I should stop reading 8-[ )

lol reading is fun

yeah there are many tournaments with cash prizes (in terms of premium) and the money comes from CC and the tournament host. So what ever the host give in CC has pledged to match that last i checked.

Every tournament I run has a PREMIUM prize (most have more than one, actually). And most of my tournaments are open to non-premium players (though not my current one taking sign-ups). So keep an eye out for my tournaments.

I wonder if being limited to 4 games has any affect on tournaments? Or do the tournaments only require you to play one game at once? (neither of us have ever been in a tourney  ) What is the general outline of a Premium membership tournament? :D

You'll look up previously played games on weird maps to learn how other people play them... then you'll play that map copying what you've seen others do... but when it comes to looking up a tournament outline you don't do the research?

Heh! You're one to talk. We studied Feudal together! Age of Realms seems to be very simple. You just deploy on your castle and make sure you don't lose it... and just attack your enemy's castle :D

So in the words of... well I don't know who has it. A member on this forum has a sig that says: "Shut up, or I'll punch you in the face." I laugh so hard at that all the time! Just random times I imagine people yelling it out.

To outline your intentions and you announce that you will be playing with "your sister" is a great strategy/idea.......for a multi.

The fact that you are a ? and are already on the forums worried about being accused of cheating seems a little sketchy to me and it has to be a red flag. When I first came on the site, I was too busy trying to figure out wtf was going on with the game and didn't really think about multis. Now I'm not outright accusing you of being a multi but definitely a red flag.

Let's be real, I could do the same thing and everytime someone questions me...I can say, hey I created a thread about it. That's my "sister" and so of course we would be using the same PC and playing the same games. Keep an eye out on this one, something smells funky (wait...I just farted).

I can't speak for sis on this one but I can tell you that the first thing that I noticed when I got the email was the rules saying no secret alliances or multiple accounts. So when I saw that and realized that the 2 of us were in fact playing from the same area naturally (or not. I don't know... maybe I'm the only one to be curious about another player using the very same PC as myself.) ... I wanted to be very upfront about the 2 of us playing together because of the very thin lines.

Secret diplomacy: We don't engage in it... at all. But because we're sisters, I'm assuming it's almost impossible for someone to feel 100% safe that we aren't doing it. Anything game-related (and sometimes just to be funny) we type in game chat at any time.

One account per player is also fairly straightforward. When I made the posts here, I didn't look for other threads of family members playing together (which I suppose I could have given what I know now). Instead I made one of my own right away and figured if there was a problem with myself and Jazzy someone would tell us here.

From there Andy Dufresne was a great help. He said "play with your sister as you would play with anyone else" which is really what we do anyway and what makes sense. We've played games with friends before (RISK) so it made sense that we should play games online as though all the players of the game were in the 1 room. A.Sub's been great too.

What you're saying makes since I suppose. We don't have anything to hide here. It's the purpose of the thread afterall :) We're in a few games together. We played a 3 player game with a.sub. He won, Rabid Bunnies finished second, I finished 3rd. We're in a 4 player world war map game. We're putting anything game-related whatsoever in the chat, even joking around. We'll probably play a few team games together.

Jazzy finished games before I did and she's already upped herself to playing doubles with a.sub while I've been left behind with my games

I love how you say "3rd" instead of "last"... common! Say it. Say "Laaaaaast." like it rolls off your tongue :D

Isn't that a bit like the conversation: "Are you gay?"
"What are you talking about? I've got a wife and 2 kids."
"Ah... married? Good cover."

I don't mean anything offensive by the example because I've heard the joke so many times but isn't it the same way? In the joke, since the person lives and explains one lifestyle, the joke is in the exaggerated undermining of it all. The person is married, the person has kids, so in order to make the statement, the "joker" cannot deny what the other has said because it is fact, but rather the joker twists the fact in a ridiculous manner so that the joke is relevant.

"Do you have multiple accounts?"
"What are you talking about? I have 1 account, my father/oncle/daughter/sister has 1 account... (insert any number of family members that may play)"
"Ah... so many accounts on 1 computer? Good cover."

Anyhoozers... I've played a few games including a 3 player game with a.sub and Theresa and currently in a 4 player game with Theresa. We play the game as though a.sub was right here in the house with us playing a 3 player game. Anything that is strategy-based or even game-based we talk, laugh or joke about ingame. We don't treat each other with special treatment and we both play for the win. It's really all we can do.

So... let me get this straight. Are you comming out of the closet or... is there something we need to talk about Jazzy? Hmmmmmmm-...?

... and a.sub  ... I can't join team games yet. I notice there are 2 types of team games involving 6 players... you can have a game with 3 teams of 2... or 2 teams of 3.

It depends on the tournaments. The tournaments I run that allow non-premiums only play one game at a time.

In fact, that's the only reason my current tournament doesn't allow non-premiums...because each player has to play 8 games starting at the same time.
