re: diplomacy ettiquette

Hi, NooB here. Maybe I'm a wee bit over garrulous, but I wanted to ask here if everything I said during an in-game chat below is true and is truly with-in the spirit of the game. When I played long ago, I had felt that diplomacy was somehow impure but from what I've seen in the forums and generals' and field marshalls' games it is integral to the game. So... is all below accurate and in-spirit?

2010-04-14 08:18:11 - jwa: where in the world did... midmojoe go? (sung like carmen san diego)
2010-04-17 14:15:04 - jwa: really kalts... really.
2010-04-23 17:42:30 - emelar: Y'know Kalts, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and tell you I'm startin' to think that maybe, just maybe, you're not nice.
2010-04-23 17:45:37 - emelar: ...but I think I relearned something I forgot from long ago. Tough lesson.
2010-04-23 20:03:18 - emelar: Kalts, the above was just a joke (I rate you highly) and has nothing to do with the below, but...Jwa, how's about a 3 turn notice truce?
2010-04-23 20:27:22 - emelar: BTW, I really am a noob here. I always used to play strictly as a lone wolf (35 YEARS ago in college), but I looked at the strategy forums and the games played and chat by the generals and field marshalls and DECLARED truces are ethical/allowed
2010-04-24 14:56:15 - jwa: ok... i'll try it out. how about 2 turns, though? truce round 12, and 13
2010-04-24 17:21:47 - emelar: LOL, okay I'll take it Jwa, done- a 2 turn notice truce already called to end after your next turn... tell me before my 13th turn if you want to reset it as indefinite with a 2 turn notice that has not yet been called. Thx.
2010-04-24 17:32:34 - emelar: Kalts, IF and only if Jwa declines to make our truce indefinite beyond the 13th turn, then I will sue for a 5 turn alliance with you. I am saying this to convince Jwa to go with me on my request, but I really will request it of you if he does not.
2010-04-24 17:37:58 - emelar: Meanwhile, Kalts, I will need at least a single onesie like I have left for you in Delhi, but NO commitment at all to you or quarter expected until AFTER Jwa decides. If "no", then you can agree or not.
2010-04-24 17:41:48 - emelar: Ha, ha, ha... if anybody feels anything I've said or done is unethical or wrong talk to me about it, but Machiavellian is okay according to what I've seen as long as you keep your openly word given once it is given.
2010-04-24 17:44:27 - emelar: Openly given word once it is given, I meant. Also, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Any of you is certainly free to "do" the same against me if stated openly in chat here inside this game.
2010-04-24 17:47:02 - emelar: Perhaps, since I NooB, all of you already take this stuff for granted...sorry if I'm too wordy. I just want to do everything rightly and acceptably and be told so if I'm honestly not within the spirit of the game and the rules.
2010-04-24 17:49:37 - emelar: Good hunting everybody :-)

keep all the diplomatic conversation in game chat
remember there can be only one, so no alliance lasts forever
no alliance may survive the game into another one (no secret or otherwise pregame alliance)
you are allowed to lie and cheat in gamechat (but expect to be rated accordingly)

you look like you are clear..

ps,
many high rankplayers feel you should not need to have outspoken alliances. Each player is expected to know what is expected of them to keep the gameleader down and survive himself.. its hard though, and sometimes an alliance might kick up a game. Its all a matter of taste really.
